The purpose of this report is to evaluate the appropriate job cluster and work industry. With the knowledge of the criteria within the industry, self-evaluation tests and analysis are conducted to assess the strengths and areas of improvement in order to excel in the jobs.

As my future dream job is to work in the social assistance industry, I found out the trends in this industry is that it is likely to be the highest growing and employed industry and will not be greatly impacted from automation.

There are 7.5 billion people created with different traits, skills, and personalities (Navin Gupta n.d.). With the growth in certain industries, knowing the job fit in workers role will play an importance and will maximise the output of our skills in the most efficient ways. According to FYA (The New Work Mindset 2016), there are seven job clusters, which are the generators, artisans, carers, informers, coordinators, designers, and technologists, and 1000 different jobs existing in Australia.

After completing the FYA quiz, the carers cluster suit me the best (see appendix 1). According to The New Work Mindset (2016), the carers cluster is filled with jobs that is focused on the improvement of the psychological or physical health or the welfare of others.

There are some skills requested by the employer before recruiting their employees. Soft skills are the abilities that are transferable for the individuals to explore between their jobs and industries (The New Work Mindset 2016). Being involved in a lot of organisations since I was young have prepared me to develop a strong interactive, communication, problem-solving, organisational, customer service, time-management, team-work, and detail-orientation skills, which are the soft skills required in the carer’s job cluster (The New Work Mindset 2016).   Other important personal soft skills required are developed sense of empathy and active listening skills (Skills for Social Workers 2018)

Revolving around generic client services, the technical skills that are demanded varies from patient care, case management, clinical experience, rehabilitation, child protection, to therapy (The New Work Mindset 2016).  In addition, scientific and psychology skills is also needed by employers in this job cluster ((What Skills are Needed to be a Doctor 2018).

    - With more than 50% of the workforce in this industry being 45 years and older, this ageing population acts as a challenge as an ageing workforce can cause expected labour shortage and recruitment difficulties in certain occupations.

    - The increase in the use of technology is known as one of the biggest causes of increases in the productivity of this industry; however, as this industry is a human services industry, the advancements in technology cannot respond to all the needs of the consumers as quality care, prevention of sickness and injury, and effective early interventions are very important and are roles that cannot be replaced by technology.

Appendix 2 shows that my personality type is an entertainer. I have a high extroversion level, strong assertiveness, tend to prospect over things instead of judging, and use my feelings more when making decisions.

The personal performance style test (Appendix 3) shows that I have strong preferences in the structure, external directions, and stimulus in learning; however, I have a strong social preference, tend to take a more logical and analytical approach, and cannot work well when there is high pressure.

The SHAPES test results (Appendix 4) shows that I am weak in my habits and need to attain more skills and look for more strategies to better my learning effectiveness and efficiency.

As someone who can be referred to as a people person (see Appendix 5), strong social preference is one of my strength as an excellent people skill. I also am a practical person. As an observant personal, I am able to notice things that are tangible to changes. Originality is where I am being bold and not afraid to experiment new styles and things.

On the other hand, my greatest areas for improvement is sensitivity, as I am an emotional person and I tend to put a strong defence upon myself. Secondly, my weakness is I tend to avoid conflicts. Also, I get easily bored with many things. Furthermore, I dislike long-term planning. Lastly, being uninterested in things which require long-term dedication resulting me being unfocused.

In this social assistance industry, as  an assertive, observant, bold person, it gives me the ability to interact well with people from different backgrounds, also make good decisions.

If I do not improve my weaknesses, then it can affect my future job choice in a negative manner. If I continue to avoid conflicts, then I might give them the wrong solution and I might not be able to complete my job properly. Secondly, as someone sensitive, when my co-workers or employer give criticism, I can misunderstand it as an insult. As this industry requires employees to have a long-term plan for the affected communities and individuals, being a poor long-term planner, someone easily bored, and unfocused can play a negative impact as it can lead me to fail in completing my job.

    My Job Cluster is:

    - The Carer

As the founder of a non-profit initiative called Second Chance Initiative, my career aspiration is to grow this organisation.

The results on Appendix 5 shows that my personal performance styles and preferences will help me in acing jobs related to my job cluster, such as my strong social preference that enables my performance to be better in this customer service and assistance industry, my ability to adapt and work in various situation can vary from the office to the field, and my serial approach helps me in giving solution which are realistic and can be instantly taken into action and requires us to be objective, logical, and analytical in assisting people.

    - Strong inter-personal skill

    - Active listening skill

    - High self-confidence

    - High level of empathy

    - Bold

    - Assertive

    - Observant

    - experience in the entertainment and fashion industry

    - experience in the social assistance industry

    - Strong leadership

    - Fast learner

    - Use more feeling instead of logic

    - Sensitive when criticised

    - Easily bored and inconsistent

    - Unfocused

    - Dislike long-term commitment and planning

    - Tends to ignore conflicts

    - Learning abroad gives me the ability to expand my network for potential business opportunities.

    - Working experience abroad.

    - Expand my non-profit initiative, Second Chance Initiative, internationally which will widen the impact.

    - Being in one of the biggest, growing industries means there are many other competitors interested in the same jobs

    - Working in the social assistance industry, specifically in the non-profit sector, many jobs that will give me the right experience are unpaid jobs.

Based on my industry dashboard, there are skills that are crucial and necessary to be developed in order to be employed. Lessons and experiences have helped me develop some skills required by the social assistance industry employers. In fact, it has developed my skills on a higher level than the level or requirement of the job criteria.

On the other hand, from the evaluation result that can be above and Appendix 5, there are many skills that I need to develop. Critical thinking is very crucial as social workers are needed to make decisions which are based on objective understanding. From Appendix 2, we can see that this gap is caused by my emotional tendency in making decisions. I need to control my emotions, be more objective, and stop avoiding problems by making solutions. In addition, my time management skill is needed to improve as time is crucial for clients and for decisions to be made. I can improve this area by developing good habits, which I lack of and can be seen from the Appendix 4 results. Furthermore, I need to improve my ability to deal with criticism. Instead of being defensive, I should start seeing them as opportunities to improve myself. I need to increase the ability to deal with pressure also needs improvement by involving myself in high pressure activities. Lastly, there is a huge gap between my current technical skills and the required technical skills as seen in the table above as I still need more experience and training in these areas, especially in the area of psychology as I need special education in that area. I can gain these experiences and training by getting myself involved in more social organisations specialising in children protection, psychology, and therapy and observing the way they manage the cases in their organisations too.

This report has helped me understand the working situation that is happening right now in the world, what the future of work may look like, and the importance of knowing job clusters that have a stronger future prospect.  The job cluster, carer, that suits me and the essential skills that comes with it has actually proved my doubts wrong as I was not so sure if being in the social assistance job world is the right choice of job for me in the future. In addition, this industry will not easily be replaced by technology as technology lack of feeling and customer service care is something that is needed and can be given by human in this area.

From the self-evaluation tests result and analysis, it is surprising to see that experiences and volunteer works play a huge role in the development of many skills and can shape our personal traits. This report has helped me evaluate myself even better and prepare me for my future endeavours by helping me spot the areas can be used as an advantage, that need improvement, and the solutions to improve these areas in order for me to succeed in this competitive and fast-growing work industry.
