Institutional background:
What is currently recognized as Norton Healthcare originally its Genesis was with the endeavors of the Home Mission Society of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Mary Louise Sutton Norton led this group, through her fundraising, fundamental ideas and leadership, to create The John N. Norton Memorial Infirmary in the early 1886, which was named in honor of her late husband. The said hospital system has had numerous, multiple direct influences from religious groups and organizations over the years, including the Episcopal Church, the United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ, Roman Catholic and the Presbyterian communities as a whole, all of which were ascribed and dedicated to ameliorating promoting the idea of health and medical care for the sick and less fortunate.
Also a point of reference is Kosair Children’s Hospital, which was opened in the late 1892 as Children’s Free Hospital, dedicated and directed to assisting children with any form of sicknes, illness or injury. As Kentucky and Southern Indiana’s only a full-service, a free-standing pediatric hospital, Kosair Children’s Hospital, along with its predecessor hospitals, have since cared for children for more than a hundred years plus without regard to their homes and families’ ability to pay. The hospital also is an advocate and an agent for the health and well-being of all the kids/children. The over 260-bed hospital serves as the primary pediatric teaching facility for the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine. In 2007 and 2012, Kosair Children’s Hospital received the prestigious and important Magnet designation recognizing performance and excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Norton Healthcare is but one of Kentucky’s major healthcare systems with more than 39 locations in and within the vicinity of Louisville, Kentucky. The hospital and the whole health care system is majorly the Louisville area’s third largest private employer institution, providing care to more than 138 locations throughout the Greater Louisville and the Southern Indiana. The Louisville-based non-profit system includes: Around five Louisville hospitals with over 1,800 licensed beds; seven outpatient centers; 12 Norton Immediate Care Centers; nearly 12,100employees; some 650 employed medical providers; and approximately 2,020 total physicians on its medical staff.

‘ Norton Neuroscience Institute ‘It was Established in early 2009,which  provides several patients and their families with super advanced treatment for  convoluted neurological disorders through several areas of expertise, including brain tumor treatment;  pediatrics; stroke care; spine care; movement disorders, such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease; headache and concussion treatment; trauma; injuries; and many more.

The staff includes at least two surgeons, three internal medicine physicians specifically  trained in bariatrics, dietitians ,nurses, and mental health professionals, the program is so well equipped to help and support patients and their extended families on their weight loss process.

Market share:
Norton Healthcare is the Louisville area’s third largest employer of the whole population, with more than 12,010 employees. Norton Healthcare employs some 3,100 nurses and has nearly 1,990 affiliated physicians. Consequently, Norton Healthcare has several programs it has put in place to help and support nursing students attending both the public and private universities in Kentucky and Indiana. The Norton Healthcare Scholar Program is carefully and professionally designed for nursing students so as to cover the total cost of tuition or text books, accommodation amongst other expenses. In return, the supported students will be expected to work for Norton Healthcare for at least one month as per the 500 US dollars received after graduating in their respective Faculties.
When this is subject to proper comparison with other healthcare providers in Kentucky, Louisville and Norton Healthcare is the market share leader in the five major areas around and it collectively includes 46% of the in-patient admissions, 61% of all the births, 53% of all the Emergency Department visits, 50% of the total surgeries and 41% of all the out-patient visits.
