The Basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), search engine optimization in Portuguese, include creating content that readers will want to link social media, blogs or other websites and rely on a content easy to find with relevant keywords. The mechanism also ensures that your website does not have technical issues that may prevent search engines from indexing content.

But how to do this and still measure the success of the initiative? Various SEO tools can help in this task. Below you will find 20 technologies listed in no particular order, recommended by three specialists: Jill Whalen, High Rankings SEO consultant; Nicole Munoz, CEO and founder of StartRankingNow; and Matt McGee, Search Engine Land and Marketing Land editor in chief.

Google SEO Tools

1. Google AdWords Keywords Tool

This free Google tool is designed for those who write ads that run on search results from the Google search engine, Gmail, and other affiliate sites. It provides information such as the volume of national and international search for a particular phrase, shows if the phrase is competitive and related keywords.

It is very useful for any developer of web content and is one of the tools that most SEO uses. "It is practically the only technology that I use or recommend to search for keywords," says Jill.

2. Google Analytics

McGee, Nicole, Jill and many other SEO experts depend on the tool's website analysis Google. Jill calls the Google Analytics "the most important tool of all" because it helps to find out why a site lost or gained traffic. "It helps me to get a general feel of the page and view technical problems," he says. The basic program is free and licensed version, with additional features, costs about $ 150 per year.

7. SpyFu

Nicole recommends SpyFu, research tool keywords that provides useful information about keywords of competitors. The service costs $ 79 per month.

8. Browseo

The Browseo (combination of the words "Brown" and "SEO") helps you quickly determine a page's structure as well as its relevance to specific keywords. It's a quick way to get a useful analysis of a particular page says Nicole.

9. WebSite Auditor

10. Copyscape

Jill uses this tool to find out if a web page has any kind of redirection. "We like to see 301 redirects instead of 302s or any other kind," he says.

12. Ahrefs Site Explorer

Enter a URL and Ahrefs Site Explorer will show your backlinks or external links from other sites. "Using this technology to see if the site I am reviewing has spam links, which can lower it in the Google ranking" he says.

Google Chrome Extensions

13. NoFollow

Google Chrome (like Mozilla Firefox) has a number of free extensions and add-ons designed to help SEO. "He describes all the links on a page that have the nofollow attribute. But the best thing is that a small window appears if the page you are viewing has a noindex tag," says Jill. "You would not believe how many sites you can find from this extension that are inadvertently blocking all search engines", he said.

14. PageRank Status

With this free extension, you can quickly learn about a page including your PageRank, Alexa traffic ranking, backlinks and number of pages indexed by different search engines.

15. TagAssistant

The TagAssistant reveals Analytics code errors on a page. Jill says that this tool can come in handy when a site appears to have lost traffic. "Sometimes you will see that the page does not have the Google Analytics code, or it was incorrect."

16. Awesome Screenshot

Jill use this free utility to perform SEO audits on a website. The Awesome Screenshot allows you to add arrows, circles, and text, facilitating a page of image capture and visually shows where the trouble spots are. Once it captures the images in Evernote glue, along with other notes on site problems, and uses notes for compiling a report.

17. Quora

Quora is a site of questions and answers, explains McGee. He says the tool is useful in the development of blog themes. "A single topic can lead to various ideas for blog content," he says. "There are a variety of content there. And it is not a simple system of 'questions and answers'," he explains.

18. InboxQ

The InboxQ is an online tool and works as an extension of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Type a simple keyword and the InboxQ will show issues that Twitter users are asking about it. Nicole uses this tool to generate themes for blogs and other online content.


Google loves and tends to reward new content with higher search ranking. Blogging, of course, it is an easy way to create that content. The is a blogging platform that many SEO experts use because it is simple. There are also numerous free plug-ins to help you optimize each blog post like WordPress SEO and All in One SEO.

20. HootSuite

Once you posted on the blog, it's time to publish it on social media to generate traffic. HootSuite is a social media panel that allows you to schedule and simultaneously posting updates on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google and other social networks. HootSuite is free but the paid plans start at $ 10 per month. Some SEO experts also recommend Buffer, similar service that posts messages on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and accounts.
