This report will present some of the milestones in the development of mobile phone and its influence on media. The meaning of the phone has been changed in the last decades. In the beginning,  the phone was the only tool for calling and today smartphones are portable computers with new features coming every day.

Nowadays, almost everyone has got mobile phones, kids, teenagers, adults, even seniors. People are addicted to this devices. They are taking and using their phones everywhere almost all the time. On the market are available different kind of cell phones, new models of Iphons, Samsungs, with a touchscreen or with a keyboard, more expensive or cheapest one, everyone can buy what he or she can do. However, using mobile phones can have some negative aspects like radiation or even you can be tracked. Thanks for mobile phones people have got easier access to every information, they can contact someone who is on a different continent, so they are timesaving. Mostly, the phones are the reason why relationships have worsened, people prefer to send a message with emotion than talk face to face.

The beginning, mobile phones weren't available for everyone, If someone wants to call he or she has to go to for example to a police station, bank or hospital. Now humanity doesn't have that problem, because these devices are available for everybody.

Mobile phones are a special invention which changed communication in the whole world. Thanks for this device people have begun the possibility to communicate with friends or members of a family who could be everywhere even on a different continent in a much faster way than by telegraph or letters. That long-distance telephone service paid a lot of attention. The first phone available to purchase was very expensive and cost $3,995, therefore, not everyone cannot afford to so huge expense.  Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. was something new, it was possible to take this cell phone everywhere and call somebody no matter where you were, only in a condition you had a signal.

Inventing the cell phone brought uncertainty, contest, struggle, and experimentation. Now can be noticed how large excitement and competition created the first mobile phone. Over the years was created a lot of companies which are producing telephones like Samsung, iPhone, Motorola or Sony etc. Scientists are inventing many different functions, apps, and new appearances of phones that the newest model of the device will be the best on the market. Nowadays in the store are available hundreds of models phones for example with keyboards or without. Everyone could find phone suitable for themselves. Every new model of telephone is a contest between various companies because everyone wants to be the best and creates new technology or be unique. Have something that other phones doesn't have.

Mobile phones have survived and become an inseparable daily part of human life. However, present mobile phones are totally different from the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. they are much smaller, have a lot of widgets and could have a touchscreen. The old models of cell phones were replaced by a new one and are forgotten. In the shops are available many devices which could have a similar role like iPods or computers, but they are not hand-held and do not have as many functions as mobile phones. Even though people can replace phones, they are not doing this. One of the reason is the fact that thanks for the mobile phone we can do everything, for example, send an email, call to wife or doctor, take pictures, play games and even use maps or GPS. Consequently, mobile phones are better than media development and may replace them.

In 1983 took place first commercial mobile phone Motorola DynaTAC8000x. It was developed by Martin Cooper in the USA. In 1987 the development of GSM has increased the accessibility of network due to new global standards of transmission of data. The evolution of the cell phone was very dynamic and unpredictable. First, the most popular phone was created by Motorola. The using of them were considered as a symbol of success and prestigious.  From big, unuseful chunks to smart, small tools which are unchangeable for most people. The crucial milestone was in 2003 when to 3G internet connection has been invited. It has started the new era of smartphones with full internet connectivity. Nowadays, phones especially iPhones from Apple are not only powerful tools but also some icons of design and style. ''As a marketing strategy, the Smartphone term was introduced in the market, referring a new class of mobile phones that provides integrated services from communication, computing and mobile sectors including voice communication, messaging, personal information management (PIM) applications and wireless communication capability. In real sense, Smartphone is a mobile phone with advanced features and functionality beyond traditional functionalities like making phone calls and sending text messages. The Smartphone is equipped with the capabilities to display photos, play games, play videos, navigation, built-in camera, audio/video playback, and recording, send/receive e-mail, built-in apps for social websites and surf the Web, wireless Internet and much more." (Smartphone Definition. 2018. Smartphone Definition.)Today every teenager or adult starts the day from checking social media, news, stocks or mails. This is unconnected part of the digital revolution and it could not happen without phones.  (Mobile Business Insights. 2018. The history of mobile technology — and its future.)

Mobile Media & Society

Mobile applications have a big impact on people's health and life.  Firstly, the most popular apps are social media browsers such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat. According to Facebook Revenue and Usage Statistics (2018) by Artyom Dogtiev, there are 2 billion smartphones around the globe and 85% of the smartphones have the facebook app.

Each month there are 2,2 billion active users and every day there are 1,5 billion. In 2015 there were 47% of users that access service only by phone. VentureBeat. 2018. 47% of Facebook’s users only access the service on mobile phones. (VentureBeat 2015). It shows how the role of phones have drastically changed and how people adapted to that. There are apps for travels, restaurants, institutions, and universities. The phones are not only for calling anymore. The progress of technology has shaped the role of current media and create a new way of passing the information. The newspaper has transferred to digital, smartphones version. For instance, The Independent has become the first only digital printed newspaper. In 2016 they have about 70 million only online users, so going only digital was a practical and successful idea. (The Independent. 2018. The Independent becomes the first national newspaper to embrace a global, digital-only future. )

Moreover, there is a high amount of people who are addicted to smartphones.

The Ofcom has released the statistics about usage of smartphones:

"-37% of adults and 60% of teens admit they are highly addicted to their Smartphone.

-51% of adults and 65% of teens say they have used their Smartphone while socializing with

-23% of adults and 34% of teens have used their Smartphone during mealtimes.

-22% of adult and 47% of teens admitted using or answering their Smartphone while in the

bathroom" (Nurfit, 2012,‖Smarphone Addiction and Impact on Society,)

The agency for research for cancer has classified some electromagnetic fields as possibly cancerogenic. WHO has gathered some studies but there is no any date that proof cancerogenic of phones. On the other hand, some of the scientific reports have pointed links between smartphones and male infertility.  (Agarwal A, Deepinder F, Sharma RK, Ranga G, Li J: Effect of cell phone usage on semen analysis in men attending infertility clinic.)

All things concluded the smartphones are unchangeable part of people's lives. The mobile phones are competition for computers because they have the same features and they are portable so if someone does not have professional needs the phone is enough.  In the less than the century, the phones from big "bricks" became small touchable screens. The most interesting question is how do they look like in the future and how will the media adapt to new mobile phones.
