There are historical traces of the revolutionary impacts the English language has had on the development and transformations of the modern day technological world. Globalization was not only a mechanism for this intense transfer of technology and information but also was a key reason for its rapid spread and development. Globalization allows for people arcs the world to be connected instantly, sharing information, practices, and methods of doing things. In the rush to understand how other societies do things a language standard was placed on conversations that allowed for the most efficient and comprehendible exchange of information (Block 3). The reason English is considered one of the most influential languages in the world is due to the need for a common ground language to be used when the technological revolution and the internet were created. It should also be recognized, however, that prior to WWI, German was considered the language of science before the intense shunning of German scientists and researchers occurred. (Nunan) English is now considered to be a global language due to the number of speakers and the number of countries it is spoken in. The importance placed on learning English can be traced the rapid developments that took place during the technological revolution.

The invention of planes, computers, and the internet are prime examples of how English became rooted and used around the world, due to the great importance society has placed on those objects. The creation of the plane was one of the most innovative inventions of the 20th century and is now used every day in modern society to connect people across the world. An issue quickly arose however regarding the interruption of communication abilities due to language barriers. These language barriers caused the result of many airline crashes and mass casualties. For example, in 1996, a mid-air collision between a Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 747 and an Air Kazakhstan Ilyushin occurred due to the pilots being unable to communicate with each other, as a result, 349 passengers died. According to International Air Transport Association (IATA), pilots and air traffic controllers now must speak English at major international airports in an effort to increase safety standards for the first time in history. This attempt to stabilize and create a common ground of communication in the aviation society has lead to the spread of the English language and has allowed for the whole industry to be revolutionized now that everyone can communicate with each other.

The global power of the USA coincided with the birth of popular computing, and English is the language of the technological revolution and the internet. Therefore, English is widely considered the lingua franca, the common language, used in computer science. For example, the keyboard is designed for Latin characters, as a result, speakers of Asian languages have to use complicated techniques to enter words. What happens inside the devices is also dominated by English. When examining coding, many of the words used are English, therefore, forcing many students of computer science to learn English words. This pressure to learn English ignorer to understand topics int he field has lead tot he increase of English learners as well. Most often, specialists with foreign knowledge are needed in the field of education and science. The highest level of English proficiency should have students who want to connect their lives with information technology (Nunan).

Thanks to the rapid development of the Internet, representatives of different nations began to closely interact on the Web. In order to understand each other, they used English. This reflects the relative affluence of English-speaking countries and high Internet penetration rates in them. English-language users appear to be a plurality of web users, consistently cited as around one-third of the overall (near one billion). Other factors have propelled English into a majority web-content position. Most notable in this regard is the tendency for researchers and professionals to publish in English to ensure maximum exposure. The largest database of medical bibliographical information, for example, shows English was the majority language choice for the past forty years and its share has continually increased over the same period. Given the enormous lead, it already enjoys and its increasing use as a lingua franca in other spheres, English web content may continue to dominate even as English first-language Internet users decline. This is a classic positive feedback loop: new Internet users find it helpful to learn English and employ it online, thus reinforcing the language's prestige and forcing subsequent new users to learn English as well (Chapelle 58).

Technology over the years has been greatly woven into how education is presented to the young generation. Computer navigation is a recent example, showing kids how to navigate the internet and use it to earn new things. Through the use of iPads and laptops, it is more common

now more than ever for kids to know how to use technology. There have been apps created to teach English to kids in a more efficient and more comprehensible manner that has shown to have a significant impact on the rate of language learning for kids. Theses application along with youtube videos have allowed learning the English language not only easier for adolescents but also for adults (Nomass). The effects of applications in English have on adolescents can also be seen in video games. Computer games in English are very popular among gamers. Having knowledge of English allows you to easily use not only games but also many other applications, due to the majority of apps in the marketplace being advertised and marketed in English. Technology has greatly impacted the method and purposes of inventions that in turn has influenced how we learn new things.

In the workforce, especially the science field, it is crucial to be able to speak English due to the manner in which communicating topics and research is conducted. There is always a priority for a company to have an English speaking worker on the team due to translation issues that are necessary for publications. Although there are no issues with publicizing your research in other languages, it can be very beneficial if it is publicized in English. One of the main benefits that arise from this is a greater audience is able to be reached if English is spoken. The impact of language barriers in the world has been both positive and negative. The negative impact is the limitation placed on communication due to not speaking the same language which from the earlier reference of the planes crashing, can be catastrophic. A positive impact that has resulted from language barriers is the invention of translation tools. We have evolved from using conversion language dictionaries to creating programs such as Google translate that has revolutionized the way we approach these obstacles. These translation devices still have a long way to go before they are fluid in their attempted purpose, however, the problem has been recognized and a response to fix it has been made. Technology has aided the learning of English in response to the work-fields demands.

In the economy, a predominant method of promoting your product is through the use of technology. Having exposure on the internet, television and billboard are all possible due to technological advancements our society has made to increase revenue and in turn profits. Advertisements have made marketing techniques evolve based on audience and target communities. Adjustments are made based on these factors and implemented by technology to achieve the target goal. Due to the use of Advertisements in America the popularity of English has increased in an attempt to understand and promote widespread commonalities amongst speakers. This can also be seen in the entertainment field, for example, movies and tv shows which are all broadcasted using technology. Subsequently, technology has helped promote the English language to the masses and encourages national connection through comprehension.

In conclusion, technology has immensely magnified the need for English speakers and also aided. In the instruction and education of the language due to the high demand. English language fluidity greatly improves how we use technology and connect with people worldwide. Considering the high placement of English in society and the benefits that supposedly arise from indulging in learning the language, technology has proportionally revolutionized and improved itself to accommodate the changes in probities in our society. Seeing how people learned Latin then for the same reasons they learn English now: to get ahead in life and have access to knowledge. Subsequently, there is no guarantee that another language won’t replace English as the prevalent language of science. However, one thing has been demonstrated throughout society, you don’t have to speak English to have a successful career, but it certainly makes it easier. Considering English is involved in almost every facet of modern-day globalized society.
