This paper will introduce the major objective when dealing with supply chain focused manufacturing planning and control system. MP&CS can be utilized in any organization to insure products are produced at the right time, in the right quantity, and quality specifications allowing it to be cost efficient. There will be brief definitions on supply chain, management planning, control systems, and how MP&CS are associated (Benton Jr, 2014).

Define Supply Chain

Supply chain is a network of suppliers, storage facilities, transporters, and retailers that participate in the delivery the production, delivery, and selling of product (Words, 2015).

The importance to point out is whether or not consumers are involved in the definition of supply chain. It would be explicit in some characterizations, as that of Chopra and Meindl (Chopra, 2012)'A supply chain fulfills a customer request, directly or indirectly, and consists of all parties involved.  Supply chains include retailers, customers, transporters, warehousing, and manufacturers. Inside each organization, the supply chain consists of all functions related to receiving and filling the customer request, as well as manufacturing. These functions include, finance, customer service, distribution, operations, marketing, and new product development'.

When we consider customers as members of the supply chain it shows a clear difference between logistics and SCM in the past customers were seen as only the end flow of materials. Presently customers are seen as partners with two implications. First, opposing for what is suggested in most supply chain representations; there isn't any mandatory demand that needs to be met; and customers are actually selected from possible ones.  Second, the supply chain must consider customers as members of its organization. However that doesn't apply to all supply chains (Corominas, 2013) .

Manufacturing Planning

Manufacturing planning is the practice of outlining tasks, developing strategies, and setting goals to accomplish the objectives (Words, Manufacturing Planning, 2015).  Penetrating competitive setting has led organizations to implement strategies toward improving the performance of the overall manufacturing structure. By having a time based plan that focused on quick market response by speeding up production, at the same time improved delivery performance. In this situation, lot streaming was given full attention due to the results of its high possibility of reducing manufacturing lead times. This technique has been studied extensively utilizing different problem settings (Chang, 2005). Although approved process plans could possibly have an effect on the performance of lot streaming, former research has assumed that the parts should be created with a fixed process plan from start to finish of the system. Nevertheless, heightened performance can and will be achieved by utilizing flexibility in the process plans with lot streaming. Instead of producing a whole manufacturing lot with a set processing structure, splitting it up over several process plans could reduce the start and finish time difference between jobs or tasks (Yavuz, 2013).

Control System

When implementing a control system at any company makes sure that recourses and assets are recorded, and checked, regulated, and supervised and if necessary access should be restricted. This plan ensures that an organization is using their resources effectively (Words, Control Systems, 2015A). Control Systems combines common sense and critical thinking that produces cost effective control, high quality, and automation solutions for different applications. Process Identifiers (PID) are widely used in industries because it is easily accessed and effective. The simple approach improves control performance and is used in both feedback PID and feedforward controllers. The feedforward controller helps detect early damages before it can seriously affect the process. The reason is that an ideal feedforward controller utilizing a direct inversion of process model which is often not physically realizable. Many non-ideal feedforward controls have been proposed where some of them involve intensive procedure to reach a good or a negative response (Nandong, 2015). PID is used in this paper as an example of one amongst the many different ways a control system work.

Supply Chain, Manufacturing Planning & Control System Association

Over the last fifty years the manufacturing firms focus has been directed towards operations planning and control. New approaches have been allowed because of new techniques, principles, and systems emerging. The perception of planning and control has gone from internal production operations to supply chain operations connecting manufactures, customers, and suppliers. In this paper, focus shifts to the development of planning and control, starting from the shop floor all the way through material requirements planning (MRP), supply chain planning (SCP), sales and operations planning (S&OP), and master production scheduling (MPS). A few commonly viewed competitive priorities are cost, delivery, and flexibility of the products. Ultimately the customer of the supply chain is needed just as much as the widespread view on the planning and control of the supply chain. With respect to the type of product used Fisher (1997) motivated the need for two special types of supply chains. One was a physically efficient supply chain that had a strong cost focus which is needed for functional products; while the market responsive supply chain focused on market mediation which was much needed for innovative products (Fisher, 1997).

The supply chain management adheres to the critical bond between regional economic development, economic market drive, freight traffic, and transportation infrastructure. With today's growing importance of specific supply chain their asset can have an impact local, national, and regional economies, as well as transportation, logistics & supply chain economics services, mainly those applicable to essential intermodal actions and infrastructure influence organizations location decisions. When introducing an economic layout point of view to a transportation centric dialogue, while exploring how regions and states compete based on the economic value propositions adopted (Closs, 2015).

Conclusion

To conclude this paper shows the importance of a supply chain and who is related to it. The chain includes retailers, customers, transporters, warehousing, and manufacturer. A supply chain consists of all functions related to receiving and filling customer request. And by having a time based plan that focused on market response by speeding up production, which allows an improved delivery performance. When a company decides to implement a control system it should combine common sense and critical thinking that will produce cost effective control, high quality, and automation solution s if needed for different applications. Operations planning and control has changed over the years from machines to plants in a supply chain. Organizations have become aware and that more should be taken into consideration in order to achieve operational excellence. This includes and not limited to internal operations for supply chains when involving customers and suppliers. These factors relate to the system design, product, and new concepts and approaches (Olhager, 2013).
