Paste your essay in here…“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.” -Stephen Roberts. When affronted with the topic of Atheism, many people begin to feel extreme confusion.  What is Atheism? Where did it begin? Who started it? Atheism simply means the lack of belief in any deity. The root word “theism” means “belief in the existence of a god or gods, especially belief in one god as creator of the universe, intervening in it and sustaining a personal relation to his creatures.”, the prefix of that word “a-” implies a lack of or an opposition to. Atheism is the strict belief that there is no deity. No God exists. There are many strands of atheism and in this paper they will be explained, examined and executed.

Scientific Atheism. Scientific atheism is the belief that God is not involved in the scientific relations of the World. There have always been men who do not believe ion God, but the number of scientists who fail to recognize deity is astonishing. More than 85% of scientists recognize any form of deity. Meaning that if there are 100Million scientists in the world, only 85Million recognize a form of deity. This form of deity can be one of the many Hindu Gods, Buddha or even Christ Jesus. These figures are deplorable. Scientific atheism displaces a trust that should be placed in the hands of God and place it in the hands of science. Instead of trusting in Christ to see one through an arduous time, the scientific atheist relies on a formulation of data that would exemplify whether or not said person would make it through that particular valley. The good thing about scientific atheism is that its believers only result in an uproar when Christians and Creationist denote their beliefs. It is commonly accepted that something cannot result from nothing. Strangely enough, scientific atheists are confused in that the belief of science as supreme implies that they are not atheists but scientologists. I digress.

The next third most popular form of atheism is that of Logical Atheism. Logical atheism is easily refuted due to its lack of origin. Logical Atheist argue that if there is no beginning where did the Creator come from? This same question can be inverted and posed to the Logical Atheist, if there is no creator, where did you and your logic come from? This battle between religion and logical atheism is one that had its beginnings in ancient Greece. During a time when men were refuting all things religious and turning rather to mathematics and reasoning, came forth the belief of Logical Atheism. In a rather sarcastic way, the famous philosopher Galileo Galilee wrote, “I do not think it is necessary to believe that the same God who has given us our sense, reason and intelligence wished us to abandon their use, giving us by some other means the information that we could gain through them.” This very sad statement is the basis upon which the Logical Atheist refutes all deity. The argument of the logical atheist is that God, if there were one, would not give us the power of knowledge and then limit us to a very small remnant of said knowledge. This particular form of atheism is probably the most arrogant form. The logical atheist trusts in his ability to think and reason rather than trusting in the noted events of scripture. Logically, it would not make sense for Peter to walk on water, but he did. That account is not only recorded in the Bible but in many other non-religious historical books. It is not logical for Christ to die on the cross, and in giving his final breath cause a great change to overcome that area, but that event is recorded and it is the crux upon which our calendar is written. The Logical Atheist is often stumped when asked about certain laws of science, such as the law of dark energy. Logical and Scientific atheist do their best to track the origin of man back as far as they can, and when they fail to track any further, they simply state that the Big Bang or the One-cell Ameba took its course. This is strangely illogical and scientifically stilted. Where did the ameba come from? What force caused the Big Bang? There was no big bang, and the one-cell ameba did not birth our universe. Our universe was the creation of an almighty God who transcends all creation. When the Logical atheist begins to fathom that God created our universe, he will understand the vastness of God’s power.

Historical atheism teaches that there is no historical evidence of the existence of any deity.  Delo McKown said , “The invisible and non-existent look very much alike.” What a sad and disparaging statement. This school of thought teaches that there is no knowledge of God because God never existed physically on this earth. Historical atheist rely on the formula that 0 evidence = 0 existence. Historical atheist rely on the fact that many people don’t believe in Big Foot, the Tooth Fairy, Zeus or so on, but they believe in God. Apparently to the atheist the pixie dust from the Tooth Fairy and the loud yodel of Big Foot are more profound the physical evidences of God and fulfilled prophecy. Historical atheist are even as disrespectful as to say that there is no proof to God’s creation. They try to prove that if God had created something there would be a physical evidence of that Creator and His hand in the affairs of man. These Historical atheists believe that God does not and never has answered prayers. They believe that God does not and never has performed any miracles. They believe that God does not and never has favored those whom He loves. Why do they belief this? They do not believe because in their minds there is no God.

Lastly, the argument of strong and weak atheism is examined. A strong atheist is one who believes that absolutely NO forms of deity exist, while a weak atheist believes that a deity may exist, he is just not supreme.  Strong atheism has been explained previously in this paper with historical, scientific and logical atheism, but weak atheism has not been explained. Weak atheism is the subscription to the belief of agnosticism. Agnostics believe that there may be a God, but if this God does exist, humans do no have the power to know Him. Many people believe in this principle due to pride. A story was once told about a young boy who was taught to pray at an early age. This young boy would go to the temple with his mother and beseech his God to work in a particular circumstance. The young boy realized that nothing was changing in the circumstance. Frustrated with the lack of movement the little boy exclaimed that God was not real and if he was he could not know him. This little boy went on to become a leader in the agnostic and atheistic movement. One day he went outside and stared into the deep blue sky. Raising his hands up to heavens he cried aloud that if God could hear him he would show him a sign. God did not show him a sign. The little boy was so upset that he began to develop the thought that if there is a God, he doesn’t care about me. “One God for billions of people, that’s absurd!”, thought the young man. This young man went on to become a very well know person in the past century, his name was Bruce Lee. Due to the fact that he could see no proof, he believed that there was no God. He said, “I’ll believe it if you can prove it.”

Atheism can be refuted logically and scripturally. If the reader decided to go outside to his car and slam on the brake relentlessly, his car would obviously propel forward. When would the car stop? The car would stop when it met a force that was greater than the force that the car was giving off. The simple logic of cause and effect has been explained. Looking around you, you can obviously see that all things have had an origin. The baby: its mother. The snow: frozen rain. Food: preparation. Life: ______? As we look around this world and notice its intricacies we cannot help but attribute its creation to an all-knowing being, that being is God. The idea of God also exists in the mind of an atheist. If an atheist were to walk up to you and ask you if God exists in your mind, you would surely tell him yes. From this mental existence coupled with faith in this mental existence, your belief in God is founded. Unfortunately, the atheist does not realize that he is half of the way down the road to belief in deity. If you believe that deity exists, that is a great start. The best argument by far for the existence of God is that of logical inconsistency on the part of non-believers. Human beings show obvious signs of design. Someone had to have created them.

Throughout this paper many views of atheism have been explained, examined and executed. Scientific atheism is a reliance on science instead of deity; it is unfounded because science is a creation of God. Logical atheism is illogical because even its founder attested to the fact that logic is far too powerful to be randomized, it must have been created. Historical atheism is often disproved due to the historical accounts that match perfectly with scripture. Whatever form of atheism you may encounter, remember that atheist converts after losing an argument, they must be convinced of their personal depravity.
