With a population of 2,000 students, my school was the place to be, Hartfield Academy. Known nationwide for their gorgeous campus and excellence in academics, where every kid wanted to and where every parent wishes they could send their kids. Who would have thought me a boy from the inner of Chicago could make it to a school as piteous as this one? I didn't plan on this happening, it was fate as some call it. But with 1,000 miles between my home at Hartfield, there was no way that my mom was gonna let me go to this school, I told the Headmaster Anderson and he paid me and my family a home visit. He was able to convince them to let me go to Hartfield, it also helped that I would be given a full ride and that he would pay for my transformation to the school.  Three days later I hopped on a plane with one suitcase, a duffle bag, and my backpack, I arrived on campus to see Headmaster Anderson waiting. As I got out of the service car that he got for me I gave him a firm handshake and said, "Good morning sir." He replied, "Good morning Christopher, I hope you travel were well."  I said, "Yes they were Sir, Just a little tired." As he shows me to my room I can't help but notice the beautiful landscape and the amazing architecture. We arrive at my room and he introduces me to my roommate, He said: "James this is Chris, Chris this is James, he will be your new roommate and once he gets settled I want you to give him a tour of the school." James says, "Will do Headmaster."

As I unpack James starts asking me questions, He says "where you from are?" I say "Chicago, what about you?" He replies, "I'm from New York City." "Cool, one of these days I'll have to take a trip up there," I replied.  "You have to, we have the best pizza," James said enthusiastically. I beg to differ, Chicago definitely has the best pizza" I replied. "I don't wanna start any problems, but Chicago is not even close to having the best pizza. What kind of pizza do you have to use a knife and a fork to eat. That's a disgrace to pizza everywhere." James replied, in a pushy tone. "Anyways, dinner is gonna start soon, let's get this tour out the way."

Okay, you lead the way" I say as James heads out the door. Say we walk down the corridor, I am amazed by the fact that I'm really here. But I have worked my ass off to be this position and I'm not gonna let anyone deter me from success. As we finish up the tour James turns to me and says, "You are really cool and I'm glad you choose Hartfield." I reply "yeah, me too and if the people are anything like you I think I'm gonna like it here". They both smile at each other and head towards the mess hall. As we take our seats at the dining table James's friends approach us. While they take their seats, James introduces everyone. "Chris, this is Tyler Zack, Abbie, and Madison and everyone this is Chris, he is a transfer student and my roommate. Tyler looking at me with furrowed brows he asks, "Where are from?" I replied, "I'm from Chicago." Tyler replies "Cool" Looking really intrigued by my answer. As conversations developed I started to really feel like I could fit in here. Once dinner Is done we are having such a great time that we all go out to the town diner for milkshakes. We were having so much fun getting to know each other more and took turns telling our funniest stories, that we lost track of time and I wasn't until my alarm went off at 10 pm that I alert the rest of the group and we rushed back to campus and barely made it for the 10:30m curfew. James and I make it back to our room and I finish unpacking as we get ready for bed. As I settle into bed, I stare at the ceiling and I say, "Tomorrow is going to be a great day, James". James reply's "Yes, it is, goodnight". I reply "goodnight".

As my alarm goes off, I open my eyes and realize that yesterday wasn't a dream. I am really here, and I get really happy inside. My first class is at 9 am, so I have an hour to get ready, I take a shower, get dressed and head down to the mess hall to get breakfast when I see Tyler leaving, on his way out he turns to me and says "Hey, you're in Biology at 12 pm right?" I reply "yes ". He says, "you should join the study group, it meets today at 5 pm in the library if you're interested." I say, "Yeah definitely."  "Okay cool. See you later." James yells as he leaves the café in a hurry to get to his next.

As 5'oclock rolls around I make my way to the library and find the study group room. As I enter the room I see Tyler, who says "Everyone this is Chris, he is new to the school and I invited him to be a part of our study group." Chris this is  " Sarah, Ashley, Tate and Andrew" "It's really nice to meet you all, I hope I'm not too late". Ashley in a reassuring to  " your fine we just started".

Do you know if the exam is multiple choices?" I asked

"Yeah professor Stark can barely read unlike Newberry, he makes you spell everything out."

"Who Newberry ?" I asked.

"He teaches English 209".  Sarah replied

"I think I saw him once".

Tate interrupts and says " I heard he sleeps with his students and when the school finds out, they all mysteriously disappear"

I reply "has he ever tried to do this with you?? To Sarah

She says " I don't think girls are exactly his type."

"I heard he does both". Says Tate

"I heard he's a vampire". Says Ashley

"I heard he's in witness protection". Says Andrew

"Guys can we please get back to studying," says Tyler

We all go silent and put our heads into our books.

As I wait outside my class to start I see professor Newberry carrying a ton of book. As he struggles I see a bunch of students walk past him. Me being the person that I am, I help him into his office and head to my class.

Later that day me, Tyler and Andrew go to the student-faculty mixer. As we drink our punch, Tyler and Andrew sneak off to talk to one of their professors about their grades.

Professor Newberry sees me standing by myself and walks up to me and says

"What are you doing over here, you're supposed to be mingling with your peers and teachers?"

I reply "sorry".

"It's okay, these fucking mixers are more boring than the fucking classes anyways… I don't think we were formally introduced…  Adam Newberry."

"Chris Harrison".

"Oh right, the transfer, you're pretty popular".

"So are you from what I hear".

"really… what did you hear?"

"umm, just stuff from my friends".

"What'd they say?" with a playful smile

"that I should stay away from you"

As he moves in closer and says "well you should probably listen to what they say"

We both exchange intrigued and mischievous smiles

He leans in and kisses me…

We decide to ditch the party and go back to his place, its only 10 minutes from the school, so I will be able to make it back before curfew.

As we enter his house, were greeted by a beautiful golden retriever. He grabs my hand and leads me to his room. I begin to unbutton his shirt and he guides me to the bed, I begin to lay down and ease into the pillows. He leans over me and says "Are you okay?"

"are you sure?"

I nod my head.

"Have you ever done this before?"

I nod again. "Once with this guy at my old school."

He tucks my hair behind my ear and asks, "Do you want to leave?"

"Let me know if you do?"

I nod.

"Okay, close your eyes." As I close them I am overtaken by a deep passionate kiss.

"Can I lay next to you?" he said.

As the evening fades and our bodies intertwine I have never felt more connected to someone than I did at this moment.

I lay in the bed next to him and the only thing that ran through my mind was how this is the first time in a long time I felt the most real, honest with myself.

I couldn't hold back my smile.

I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and saw that it was 9:30 and I had a combination of 40 missed calls and text messages from my friends. I quickly gathered my things, making sure to wake him and makes my way back to campus. As I walked into my room I couldn't stop myself from smiling, James was there with an annoyed look on his face.

He said, "I've been worry sick, where have you been?"

I thought to myself, play it cool, no one can know. "I went for a walk around the campus and lost track of time?"

"I don't know if I believe you, but I'm way too tired to deal with this right now. But just remember, I've got my eye on you." With his eyebrow raised.

I look at him was a confused expression but brush it off and continue to get ready for bed.

As I settle under the covers and lay my head on them the pillow, the events of the last couple weeks run through my head.

I thought to myself what a way to start a new year, moving to a new place, making new friends and exploring the unknown and tonight, was no exception. This year is going to be my year, this is going to be the start to something beautiful.

A couple days pass and I'm doing homework and I turn to a page in my notebook and see the number that Adam gave me, I dial the number and start to call but get too scared and hang up. A second later I get a call, I answer "Hello."

"Christopher, did you just call me?"

"how did you know it was me?"

"You're the only person around here that has a 773-area code."

We both chuckle.

"How are you?"

"I'm fine"

"I thought you were upset with me or something"

"No, I just wasn't sure if you wanted to be woken or not."

"Do you want to come over tonight? you know have dinner, get to know each."

A long pause

"you don't have to."

"No, I do."

As I knock on the door, he yells it's unlocked. I take a seat on the couch

"Do you want a drink?" Adam asks.

"Sure. How did you know my drink?"

"I guessed."

"Scotch isn't to only alcoholic drink to exist."

"true, but you don't look like you're the drinking type, so I figured you learned from someone else. Father perhaps."

"my apologies."

We look at each and smile.

"you look so scared when you're here… I wish you didn't."

"aren't you

As he holds my hand and says, "nothing is going to happen."

"how do you know'

"I don't." with a mischievous look on his face.
