Introduction:
I have chosen to write about a company called Blizzard, Blizzard is a gaming company. They pro-duce games, which you can buy and play online with other people. The reason I have chosen to write about this company is that I think it’s a good topic for a project. And it is an interesting topic according to me.
History:
Blizzard Entertainment was founded by Michael Morhaime, Allen Adham and Frank Pearce on February 8, 1991. When it was founded it was named Silicon & Synapse. The three founders founded the company a year after they had gotten their bachelor degrees. When the company was founded it focused most on creating portkeys for other Game studios. It was first in 1993 the com-pany developed games, such as Rock n’ Roll Racing and The Lost Vikings. In 1994 the company was bought by distributor Davidson & Associates for 6,7 million Dollars. In the same year the company changed their name to Chaos Studios. Afterwards they found out that another company with the Chaos name already existed. So they finally settled on the name Blizzard Entertainment. Not long after Blizzard Launched their breakthrough, Warcraft Orcs and humans.
Products:
They have developed many games, but 3 games stick out.
WarCraft, Diablo and StarCraft.
The Warcraft universe: Blizzards most recent games in the Warcraft series is “World Of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor” which in its first 24 hours of availability sold more than 3.3 million copies. The Warcraft universe is the Company’s bestselling and awardwinning subscription-based massive-ly online role-playing game. There are 5 expansions to World Of Warcraft. World of Warcraft, is a more detailed version, and someway much different, from the game Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. In the game you play a character, you can choose from two sides “Horde and Alliance” Horde is the evil side which is easy to see because of the characters you can pick from the Horde side, Trolls, Goblins, Orcs, and Blood Elfs, and from the Alliance side Humans, Dwarfs and Gnomes.   The goal of the game is to reach the highest level in the game and be the best, in either killing other players or killing dark creatures.
The StarCraft universe: This game is a huge benefactor to the gaming scene, where you compete against others on a stage on live TV. This game takes home in space, where you control your own base, and the goal of the game is to destroy your opponent’s base. You spawn soldiers and they attack your opponent’s base.
The Diablo universe: The thirds expansion of the game was released on May 15, 2012, and sold through more than 3.5 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability, setting a new all-time rec-ord for fastest selling pc game. In its first week more than 6.3 million players worldwide had the game. In that week, it set the biggest PC-game launch in history. This game is much like World of Warcraft, the goal of the game is just the same as in World Of Warcraft.
Staff:
Blizzard Entertainment is a worldwide company, they have employees in almost every country on Earth. On their website they have a category named “Carrers” if you press on it, you can see what Blizzard employees are doing, mostly they are making software’s. Blizzard lays much weight on the game developers. They have teams that develop each game. Where they every year add new people to get a new view of things. But of course they also have support service. This is if, you’re confused about something about Blizzard or other things you can call them, and say which country you’re from, and they will try and find one from your country, to speak with you. They also have something mainly known as admins, it is people in the game you can write to, if you have a prob-lem in the game or questions of any sort. Many of their employees work from home, but some of course work at their studios around the world.
Organization:
Blizzard Entertainment is a very big organization. They have more than 3000 employees. Even though it is a big organization they still run it as a little organization. The organization Blizzard are a very big benefactor to esport’s, esport is a gaming organization where you compete on a stage at a live event against other players, the players who play at these events are the best in the world. They are what you would call professional gamers, because they get paid to do it, if they win the tournaments, they win money. This is a growing industry.
Charity:
Blizzard was earlier this year hosting an online auction of art pieces, laptops signed by many dif-ferent celebrities, swords made by blizzard and a lot of different stuff. This event was held from November 4th through to November 13th. This event was called “Online Blizzcon 2015 Charity Auction”, all the money went to a children’s hospital named “Children’s Hospital of Orange Coun-ty”. If you bought one of the articles on auction, a 100% of the money would go to that hospital. The hospital is known to provide the highest quality medical care to children and research of dif-ferent forms of cancer.
Founders:
Blizzard was founded by Michael Morhaime, Frank Pearce and Allen Adham. A year after they got their bachelor’s degrees at the University of California. Two out of the 3 founders are still com-pletely involved with blizzard, Allen Adham left the company in 2004. Today Michael Morhaime is CEO of the company and Frank Pearce are executive vice president of product development. Their Headquarters are currently in Irvine, California.
Conclusion:
Now that I have wrote this assignment on Blizzard I know a thing or two about it. I think that in the future Blizzard will keep growing, on a global scale they are doing really good, and I like that they’re running it like a small company, instead of a big company. They have grown extremely in the last 8 years from 300-3000 employees, which are many people. If they keep making games like the ones they have made, they will have a good future. So I would like to think that Blizzard Entertainment, are a good company which a doing it excellent in the gaming business, and will still in the future be doing a good job in the gaming business.
