Every human being is born with qualities that are different from other species. The basic difference comes from the answer to the question ‘How do you react to a certain situation and come out successfully’. I strongly believe that I possess the credentials to be a good leader and he should also know about his shortcomings. I am still learning everyday through studies, certifications and experience to become a better leader.
God helps those who helps themselves is one of my favorite quote in which I strongly believe in. The first leader that I have heard of is Jesus Christ. His power of casting his vision with clarity and directness and his ability to control the evil are the divine and inspiring factors. Though he was not Self-Promoting, his strategies formed the team of twelve disciples who helped him in spreading across His Words that impacted the world. The life of Jesus Christ has created a view that ‘A Leader makes a way and shows the way’.
Having heard about the Great Indian Epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharata, we were taught that how King Rama led his group of followers all over India. He provided laws for all the people including the royal families to ensure uniformity. I was in awe of the character and believed that ‘Speaking the truth and efficient play is the best way for a person to be stand out in a group’.
My academic classes helped me understand the legendary qualities of Mahatma Gandhi. During my childhood days, I had a perception that a leader is a person who rules other people in the group. Once I learned about Gandhi, the Father of India and his idea of Non- violence, which actually changed my thought. He came to India at the time when the British ruling the entire kingdom. He found that there was no Unity among people and they were missing an ideology to hold on to, so he preached the Act of Non- violence to them. Seeing the reach of his vision to the British people and his way of opposing their rule paved the way of spreading his idea across the nation. Slowly more people joined his brigade helping Mother India to her independence on August 15, 1947. I read many books on Gandhi’s view on leadership and it made realize Leadership is also about ‘Spreading good thoughts’.
Well, with much such learning, I define Leadership as a combination of capabilities by which one is supposed to look and treat stuff by foreseeing the outcome of taking the responsibility, playing the vital role and making decisions out of it. There are some instances at various stages in my life had pictured myself as a good leader.
Initiative at school: When I was selected as a leader of my class, I was instructed by my teacher on my duties as a lead. At that stage, Leadership had meant to be an ability to manage, support and represent the class on behalf of any initiative to be taken up. Once we got an announcement about the District Level Sports Meet for which I have taken up the responsibility in the areas like deciding the games we are strengthened in, forming teams with well-trained candidates and ensuring regular practice. The way in which the Participation is organized was very well appreciated by the concerned authorities and helped me in honing my technical and domain skills
Student Leader at College:
Brought up in a rural hometown, my initial days in college were getting harder for me to cope up with. Culture Shock was a hindrance to me to mingle with people from various places speaking a different language. There were many gangs and people from no alliances are not allowed to join any gang. I felt sad and frustrated because college life is boring without friends. I realized that breaking the ice is the best way to start a friendship. I brought myself fresh thoughts, move socially with people, made friends easier and at one point in time, I played a major role as an intermediate between the Management and the Students as a result of which I was elected as a Student Leader in my College. This scenario helped me in understanding the value of collaboration and team player
Decision maker at Family:
My parents started involving me in important discussions after I started working so that it will help me in the future. This really helped me in understanding the budget life and how to prioritize. After getting married to my better half, I started learning the nuances of managing and with her support, am able to make wise decisions such as joining the college while at work to ensure my dream is achieved.
Team Lead at Work:
After 3 years of corporate life, I got promoted to be a team leader. There were 5 new joins in my batch and some of them did not get along. I had a meeting with my friend and discussed about this situation, I gave chances to my team to take up responsibilities and to open up. Slowly it gave me confidence in my team and it made me realize the importance of team work. A ‘Let’s Go’ kind of factor is driving us towards the excellence. Now I realize that it is the right time to move further by taking up managerial roles with all my efforts and prove my significance.
