Case Study
The CEO that I decided to choose was Mark Zuckerberg. Mark Zuckerberg is a computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur. He is also the Co-Founder of one of the great social media websites known as Facebook. He started Facebook in his college dorm in 2004 with a couple of his roommates. The leadership role that Zuckerberg has is he is the chairman and chief executive officer of the Facebook Company. The job and responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer is that he or she is responsible for leading the development and execution of the Company’s long term strategy with a view to creating shareholder value.
The CEO acts as a direct liaison between the Board and management of the Company and communicates to the Board on behalf of management. With this being said the job of Mark Zuckerberg is to make sure that Facebook is being put in the correct position to be a successful company for many years to come. Also when it comes to any discussions between either the Executive board of the company to the employees and general body that any and everything is communicated promptly so that there is no confusion whatsoever. It said that Mark Zuckerberg management style was modeled by the late Steve Jobs.
Visionary Leadership is something that Zuckerberg really prides himself on and running his business. He tends to use the aggressive game-plan but also very encouraging to the company as well but really enjoys hearing the voices and any ideas from the company as well. Employees will stand up during a town hall meeting of Facebook and correct Zuckerberg if he says something wrong or if there are suggestions that were not accounted for. “I like openness,” he said. “It’s a little embarrassing, but it’s good to have.” So it easy to see that Zuckerberg doesn’t like to overlook any unheard options or ideas, he likes everyone’s thoughts to be accounted for. Another management style Zuckerberg has is that he is a calculated risk-taker. Every aspiring entrepreneur have faced a certain risk they had to take in order to ensure your success in whatever business you are trying to run. Now calculated risk taking is actually taking the numbers down and considering all aspects in measuring what risks will have you in a positive or negative impact.
After Zuckerberg’s biggest leap of faith in risk taking which was dropping out of Harvard to begin his social media company, he still believes in taking risks but he measures the success of the risk before going in blind and taking it. With Zuckerberg being such a youthful CEO he enjoys being in the trenches of his own company actually partaking in taking down any issues that the business may face. He does not like to be glued to his desk all day and honestly he does what he wants. He did not even consult his Board of Executives of his acquisition of the app Instagram until after he paid 1 billion dollars for it. He tends to be a “free-lance” when it comes to running his business but with him being CEO he does not lose his common touch and still very approachable when there are any concerns. It is own extraordinary way of being an effective leader but still listening to the people as well to all come to a common goal which is success in the business. Facebook’s mission and values is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. As our company grows we have 5 strong values that guide the way we work and the decisions we make each
day to help achieve our mission. The 5 strong values are “Being Bold”, “Being focus on Impact”, “Being Fast”, “Being Open”, and “Building social value”. With Zuckerberg being a visionary leader he tends to help gather the employees and remind everyone of why they are there, what their role in the future of the company is, and how great it will feel once they have attained the goal as a team.
With this being said the weaknesses is that a leader is too focused on what’s happening in the future, they may not have the same level of drive to enforce actions to make it happen. Also it might be a chance they will not devote as much time or energy on pressing problems of the present. Some sure strengths that Mark Zuckerberg has is communication, leadership, and his risk-taking skills. He has used his strength to make an amazing way for people to stay socially connected throughout the world. With this being said that same strength which is risk-taking could also be a weakness. With taking risk you must almost come in with the mindset that it will fail 9 times out of 10. You will not always succeed with him taking so many risks it could one day fail and effect his business negatively as well.
