Organizational Dimensions and Strategic Utilization of Information Systems at
Wiz Technologies – A Conceptual and Ethnographic research
Introduction
The Information Technology and Systems (ITS) had been broadly categorized as the major inventions of humans at all times. Initially the intention of information systems was to automate and speed up the manual and mechanical processes. But, now they play a vital role and matured significantly and their functions and roles play an important part in supporting the strategies and processes of business, organizational structures and the enterprise culture. According to O’Brien (1999) “Information system (IS) is a structured mixture of people, hardware, software, communication networks and a data resource that collects, transforms, and disseminates information in an organization”.
This dissertation efforts to provide a conceptual understanding on the effects of strategic utilization and organizational dimensions of IS at Wiz Technologies. The proposed paper extends and explores the Technological, Organizational, Environmental (TOE) model (Tornatzky and Klein, 1982) and applies it in the context of strategic utilization of IS at Wiz Technologies to explore the organizational dimensions.
Objectives
This paper discusses the importance of organizational dimensions and strategic utilization of Information Systems at Wiz Technologies with respect to sustainability. The major and critical resource of an organization is information that must be structured properly. The exercise of information in decision making in the business is major factor to progress an organization closer to its goals.
The research aims to evaluate the role of major types of systems in Wiz Technologies business and their relationship to each other.
To explain the information systems sustaining the most important business functions like HR, marketing and sales, production, finance and accounting.
Analyze the link between information systems, organizations and business processes.
To explain how organization applications endorse business process incorporation and advance organizational performance
Evaluate the challenges posed by information systems in the organization and management solutions
This paper focuses on technological, organizational and environmental factors to evaluate the strategic utilization of Information Systems related to product or service differentiation, cost leadership and growth advantage at Wiz Technologies.
Literature Review
Because of the present changing environment of business, organizations and enterprises are facing challenge of competitiveness worldwide. The chase for competitiveness and sustainability made the companies to opt for the professional use of information and communication technologies as a crucial factor for survival and profitability. Moreover, companies need to tackle more and more with concerns such as quick change in technology, reduced lifecycle of product, economizing, and high market unpredictability. To overcome these challenges, organizations need to maintain highly distributed strategic utilization of Information systems (Edvinsson & Malone, 1997) for gaining competitive advantage.
The information system in an organization can be broadly divided in to four categories,
- 1. Transaction Processing systems
- 2. Managing Information systems
- 3. Decision Support systems
- 4. Expert Systems.
Among these, Managing Information Systems have a significant part in the Dimensions of an organization and its functional operations like HR, Marketing, Accounting and so on. The advantages and benefits of implementing IS are extraordinary and that’s why the business organizations either small or big regardless their size implement and diffuse information systems in to their business (Freeman & Aspray, 1999). Due to its vast development and growth more and more scholars and research people concentrated on strategic utilization of Information Systems.
The organizational Dimensions of IS deals with the people, Structure, Business processes, Culture and Politics. Managers who can understand the role of information systems in creating business value are the key ingredient to success with systems, and cannot easily be replicated by the competitors.
