Introduction:

This report presents market research and analysis on the state of CanGo’s competitors in various market segments and also examines three competitor’s product and service offerings and details their relative strength and weaknesses vs. CanGo.

I. Amazon.com

In July 1994 by Jeff Bezos incorporated Amazon.com. Its mission is to “be earth’s most customer-centric company where people can find and discover anything they want to buy online.” With the headquarters in Seattle, Washington and web sites, they serve online consumer through their many retail websites (Amazon.com, 2009).

II. Gametap.com

GameTap started in 2005, a subsidiary of Turner Broadcasting, is acclaimed as a model broadband entertainment network, providing games and video via a distinctive 3D desktop client. GameTap and Metaboli merged forces in September of 2008 to establish a new global network dedicated to the digital distribution of games. They are a company of gamers devoted to the community of gamers to provide the best value in gaming. Many games now play directly in the browser with forthcoming ultra powerful browser technology. The GameTap client has transformed into a smart, browser plugin, offering the same emulation and hi tech game play in a lean, easily installed package (GameTap.com, 2009).

III. Apple Inc.

According to the New York Times article Apple Inc., “Apple designs, manufactures, and markets personal computers, mobile communication devices, and portable digital music and video players, and sells a variety of related software, services, peripherals, and networking solutions.” Started in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, Apple became one of many firms, which were looking for ways to transform the digital computer into a home appliance (New York Times, 2010).

    1. Seller and manufacturer of the most popular MP3 player
    2. Electronic books downloaded on iPad

B. Weakness vs. CanGo

    1. No book sales
    2. No online gaming

Conclusion:

CanGo has an advantage over these companies in certain market segments, but a product that it needs to either manufacture or procure is a electronic book reader such as the kindle or more in line of the iPad, for it is in this direction that the market of publishing is headed in the future (Shonfield, 2010).
