Critical Inflection
In this group project of the management course, our group did work on the topic “Ethics”. Three members of the group had an equally in working dividend. Our thinking was that we divided working in three parts. Members of the team found the information on the part what they worked on. After a week, we came back together, share what individual had and gave more opinion about all information. I see that working way was quite helpful and brought all members together as a group. The group includes “members’ knowledge, abilities and skills, and personality characteristics” (Robbins et al 2009)
Our group started as a formal group that every one comes together to achieve some specific work or assignment. We started working on “dynamic process” (Robbins et al 2009) of the group work. After that process, our team went through five steps of a formal group required until the project was presented in front of the class such as forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Three members came together after the topic was given. I was pointed out to be a leader of the group. We had got serious discussions about the topic, divided the part of work. My job was finding all information about ethics (topic of the group project), read the case The Australian Wheat Board (AWB) scandal and write up all the work after collecting from the other two members. Truc TRAN and Linh HOANG were working on the corporate behaviour and social responsibility in the Management textbook. Then, we came back together and discussed about the three questions given in the case. Group member did quite well on their job as I could see in my point of view.
Our group had lack the group member behaviour and organizational structure for the presentation. Linh HOANG (one of the group member) didn’t really concentrate on her work. She wanted to finish her job rather than wanted to get a high result expected. The reason could be her grandfather passed away a day before we had presentation. On our presentation in the class, we didn’t use power point (visual aids). This visual aid helps the group presentation give out a clearly what they are trying to say. It is a good experience for us in the future to improve the work presentation. One more reason made the project was not successful was we had less time than the other groups to work on the project while a lot of work from the others subject were coming.
As group work project, I found myself as a leader of the group. “Leader is someone who can influence other and who has managerial authority” (Robbins etc al 2009). I always found myself interested in this job and worked hard for it. The leader is the first taking the action and the one who takes the risks. I felt a little bit disappointed about my group presentation at this time because of some gaps in the work group presentation and it will be a good experience for myself next time.
If I were put in the situation again, I still would like to be in the group. I enjoyed in the group as a leader and also a member. I know the other two members very well. Therefore, we worked together as a good team. As my opinion, I learnt a lot about this presentation and dynamic process.
