1.1
The measures that I have chosen from Zespri Corp’s are Customer satisfaction and Productivity. Customer satisfaction and productivity are very important in any company. For Zespri the two measures are very important to them. The analysis method used by the company is the SWOT analysis. SWOT means Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats so basically the company is aware of its threats, opportunities and so on (CORPS, 2014).
1.2
Operational Objectives
The main objective or aim of the company is ‘to ensure the right product is destined for right market at the right time’ (CORPS, 2014). When relating the above mentioned measures of the company which are customer satisfaction and productivity, the company has a good record of customer satisfaction and its productivity rate is of a good standard as well. So in simple terms it can be said that the operational structure or the hierarchy of the company are doing their job really well. The company knows its competitors well and have gained the right of the gold kiwi fruit as well. They are working on its weaknesses, as well at the same time expanding the export of kiwi fruits as well.
Operational Policies and Procedures
Zespri Corps has put in place some priorities and policies for the kiwi fruits and these priorities are that the kiwi fruits should be ready for consumption when they reach the supermarket shelves and also ensuring that the kiwi fruits are harvested at the right time (CORPS, 2014). All the steps are followed very carefully because for Zespri Corps, standard and quality levels are everything. For customer satisfaction, the company has done few surveys and continue to do some surveys every few months just to know how they stand in the market. The company has put these policies and procedures after analysing all their threats and weaknesses to be strong and healthy in the market.
Target Dates
The productivity of the kiwi fruits are done on time and are exported on time as well and hence the company gets good customer feedbacks which help the company to improve even better and gain in into more markets. In 2011 Zespri Corps made an annual turnover of NZD $1.5 billion which shows that the kiwifruits are exported and reached to the buyers on time. Time is money. As mentioned before that the hierarchy of the company as in all the employees are committed in terms of research and development, marketing excellence and integrated structure (CORPS, 2014). The company has also analysed its weakness and threats such as which markets to target and which market is going to bring in more money.
Human & other Resources (Physical, Financial)
As stated in the 2011 financial report of the Zespri Corps, the company made an annual turnover of NZD$1.5 billion which is a great success. The productivity of kiwifruit in New Zealand is more hence getting in more income into the country. There are 240 employees all around the world including New Zealand (CORPS, 2014). Those employees work hard to get things done at the right time to get in more customers and gain their trust so that the customers are satisfied and once they are satisfied, they will buy more.
1.3
Zespri Corps have four main strategic plans to work towards it. These are to increase the value of pastoral agri-food and agri-technology industry sectors to the New Zealand economy through the development of high value pastoral based products and production systems that meet current and future global markets needs. Secondly, position New Zealand as a global leader in the development of environmentally sustainable, safe and ethical pastoral production systems and products. Thirdly, ensuring that New Zealand’s pastoral agri-food and agri-technology sectors are able to protect, maintain and grow its global market access. And finally, increase the capacity of rural communities and enterprises to adapt to changing farming conditions in ways that balance economic, environment, social and cultural imperatives (CORPS, ZESPRI COPRS ANNUAL REPORT, 2012/2013). Looking at the financial statements of the company, we can say that the strategic plans and the company’s organisational objectives are been met and the company is trying its best to fulfil its promises. The company also follows its policies and procedures such as being a good employer, to demonstrate clear strategic, direction and accountability as well as motivate and enable their teams to meet organisational goals. The procedures are to clarify staff performance planning daily, learning and development available to all staff and finally leadership development which is leadership of change. (CORPS, ZESPRI COPRS ANNUAL REPORT, 2012/2013). Zespri Corps are promoting healthy environment along with rewarding staff and working towards being the world leader in kiwifruit.
Executive Summary
Zespri continues to be a leading kiwifruit pioneer. In this report, the organisation performance will be reviewed along with the study of its financial standings in the global market. As the industry is focused on falling volumes and asset values as a consequence of Psa, Zespri had its hands full selling a record volume crop in a challenging market environment. Global revenue increased by 7.2 percent from $1.51 billion to 1.62 billion in 2011/12 on the back of a 9 percent fall in Zespri’s global kiwifruit volume from 116.5 million trays in 2011/12 to 110.1 trays in 2012/13 (CORPS, ZESPRI COPRS ANNUAL REPORT, 2012/2013).
Introduction
Zespri aims to create a worldwide year round supply of Kiwifruit. The company don’t want Zespri@ Kiwifruit to be something people only see on supermarket shelves for a few months each year. The first exports of kiwifruit from New Zealand were in 1952 to England. The person responsible for the start of Zespri@ kiwifruit however, is Hayward Wright. In the years, the industry expanded rapidly with enterprenuel kiwifruit growers establishing orchards across the Bay of Plenty and in the other growing regions of New Zealand. Today Zespri@ kiwifruit is one of the leading kiwifruit companies in the world (CORPS, ZESPRI COPRS ANNUAL REPORT, 2012/2013).
Findings (Financial)
2012/2013 2011/2012
Net profit after tax $7.6 million $20.5 million Up 63%
Equity $78.2 million 85.2 million Up 8%
Zespri global kiwifruit sale $1.561 billion $1.620 billion Up 4%
Export earning $1.100 billion $1.122 billion Up 2%
(CORPS, ZESPRI COPRS ANNUAL REPORT, 2012/2013)
The above table shows that Zespri Corps are doing really good in the kiwifruit market overseas. The figures show that the company are progressing each year even though there were some issues with the Psa ruining the kiwifruits.
Strengths have allowed an industry such as Zespri Corps based on a seasonal crop to take a long term strategic view of its future development. The results of this long term planning are clear from the outstanding growth. The shareholders and the stakeholders are a source of investment in the company.
It is the hard work of the employees that the company is doing really well. The hard work and dedication of the employees are paying off.
Target Dates
If the company is making profit every year despite the kiwifruit diseases, it is basically because of the time management. The delivery of the kiwi fruits all around the world are done on time and that also shows that the management level are efficient and on their toes. It is utmost important that a company such as Zespri Corps dealing with kiwifruits and exporting overseas keep in mind that delivery on time is what gets more customers.
Policies and Procedures
Fruits are something that gets bad quickly so it is really important for Zespri to send these kiwifruits to supermarkets at the right time. By looking at the financial statement of the year ending, we can say that the company is following all its policies and procedures and are ensuring to create a happy environment for its employees. The whole processes of pruning, picking and planting of kiwifruits are done according to their policies and procedures.
Operational Objectives
Finally the objectives of the company ‘to ensure the right product is destined for right market at the right time’ (CORPS, 2014), we can say that it is for sure true. The company as a whole are working hand in hand to work towards achieving the objectives and be the number one kiwifruit company in the world.
Conclusion
According to the financial statement of the year ending 2012/2013 of Zespri Corps, I can conclude that the company is just meters away from achieving their goals. Zespri Corps has collected a huge number of profits when compared to the year ending 2011/2012. The employees are doing well because of the training provided by the company. When comparing the figures of the two different years, there is a big increase in the profit of 63%.
Recommendations
The only recommendation that I would like to give to the company is to keep motivating their employees so that they continue to perform well and increase sales every year and the company also should continue to train and reward their employees.
