Part A
1. Describe the history of the organisation.
Caritas as an organisation started in 1897 when a young priest called Lorenz Werthmann found the Caritas Association for Catholic Germany in Cologne, Germany. The association helped lots of people in need. The people in need that they helped were sailors, seasonal workers, vagabonds, people with physical and mental disabilities. Caritas also provided childcare, corrective training for youths, protection for girls, nursing for the ill and women’s services. Caritas began in Australia in 1964.
As the CORC agency grew, it began to see that responding to emergency situations was only a small part of the answer to poverty. It began to focus more on human development programs. In doing this, it gave its partners the space to make their own decisions, giving support and developing an international exchange of ideas, rather than dictating terms.
Within Australia, ACR saw that it had a responsibility to support development in diminished communities. However decision makers soon realised that donating money is only a small percentage of positive change. To make bigger and more positive changes, they had to increase Australians’ awareness and knowledge of the problems occurring in the developing world. On 1 July 1996, the ACR had a name change and became known as Caritas Australia.
2. Identify which individuals or groups in society does the organisation assist.
Caritas Australia works with communities and their development, supporting people to help themselves out of injustice, hunger and poverty. Caritas Australia works to bring relief to people who have been devastated by natural disaster or conflict. They also provide aid to those in need. Caritas Australia works within Australia to engage all people in education and advocacy programs.
3. Explain how they assist people.
Everyday, Caritas Australia are supporting people in need around the world. They are assisting them to break free from the cycle of poverty, regardless of their ethnicity, political beliefs, gender or religion.
Their work includes:
Helping people with food crisis in East Africa.
Helping farmers in Nepal have the resources they need to learn how to farm.
Building water catchments in Ethiopia, so the communities around them have access to fresh, clean water and are able to grow crops.
Providing access to education and workshops in regions of South-East Asia, so people in poverty or crisis can learn new skills.
Training rural midwives
Advocating for fair policies in Australia where these policies directly impact our partner communities, including on climate change, restoring the overseas aid budget and justice for First Australians.
4. Describe how can individuals help the organisation fulfill their mission.
Caritas relies on people to donate and care about human beings and the world around them. Caritas hopes they are able to make more people aware of the causes of injustice and poverty, and encourage them to take action too. There are lots of ways to get involved in Caritas Australia.

58 million primary-school-age children are not enrolled in school. These children are at greater risk of exploitation, child marriage, and lower income-earning potential. Our organization addresses barriers to education and work with communities and an individuals.
Aim/Objective
Why have you chosen this group?
I have chosen this group because I am passionate about the learning of others. I think children should all have an opportunity to be educated. Education is one of the most powerful weapons which we can use in the world. Education is essential for everyone in which we can enlarge our knowledge over the world. Educating children gives them an opportunity to have a better future and also helps to reduce crime.
This organisation educates children for the future of society and its economy. This has been the primary justification for education for a generation. Children are more than the economy, learning and development cannot be reduced to a few test scores. Education can turn their life around.
Mission Statement
Gospel passage:
Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
The Proverbs 22:6 explains how important a child’s education is and how it will help them achieve their goals in the future. When the term ‘train up a child in the way he should go’ is used, it gives the reader an understanding about how the education of children will impact their lives and wherever they go in life they will need it. Even when the child gets older he will be able to use this knowledge to achieve their goals.
Catechism:
II. THE COMMON GOOD
1911 Human interdependence is increasing and gradually spreading throughout the world. The unity of the human family, embracing people who enjoy equal natural dignity, implies a universal common good. This good calls for an organization of the community of nations able to “provide for the different needs of men; this will involve the sphere of social life to which belong questions of food, hygiene, education, and certain situations arising here and there, as for example alleviating the miseries of refugees dispersed throughout the world, and assisting migrants and their families.”
This catechism explains that refugees and migrants need education to assist their family with food and hygiene. Without food and hygiene the family of the refugee or migrant has no money to pay for these needs. The catechism shows the importance of education and how it is essential to life. In the catechism it explains that education is a really important aspect of life. It is so important that it is listed with hygiene and food. Children should be receiving education.
Action
Funding source:
The program has to be funded by the people in the community. Since this is a non profitable organisation, the funding will come from kind people that will want to help out. The goal for this project to work is fifteen thousand dollars. This fifteen thousand dollars will be placed towards the equipment the kids will be using and all the other resources and facilities they need. Our facilities will be set up near developing countries to help people in need. The facilities are also going to be built in developed countries where immigrants and refugees that have arrived will be able to have a education.
Staffing:
Volunteering for “The Child Tutoring Group” requires going to the home of newly arrived migrants and refugees to teach them for a minimum of 1 hour per week. No prior teaching experience is necessary as a free training program is provided to equip you with the skills to teach on a one-to-one basis. This one hour can have a major impact on their lives forever. After a class a student can ask if they want to continue learning or say that they have had enough for the day.
What are you going to do?
When the organisation is up and running I will be assisting many people with their educational needs outside and inside the facility on a daily basis. With my help I assure that the organisation will be a success and will achieve the goals we have set. Since I am so passionate about children’s education I will try my best to assist the children in whatever way possible. To fundraise I will be running marathons to raise money and doing extra activities on weekends to help the people in need.
How are you going to do it?
Our organisation trains the volunteers for the program that want to help the children.
The organisation helps parents and guardians understand what the children are learning so they can teach them at home.
We offer a way for parents and guardians to tutor their child after school hours.
We introduce children to drawing, painting, music, drama, dance and more to help them heal, learn and do better in school.
We make sure that children don’t stop learning during a crisis, we help to keep kids healthy so they don’t fall behind or drop out.
Target
What are your expectations for your organisations?
My expectations are that the kids that are in the organisation don’t stop learning during their times of difficulties and helping them stay healthy so they don’t fall behind or drop out of school. The organisation will raise money because of the charitable events and events I will be doing to help the organisation. The organisation needs to be noticed by the government so it will become a national organisation and we can help more people that are in need of education in the world. The facilities will grow and many people will join the organisation to help it grow. Keep children focused on their education and not on the crisis that is happening around them. Keep the children focused on the education side of life and not on the tough times they are or have gone through.
Expected results
How do you measure your success?
This program will be successful if it could help the kids in need with their education. Their education is the centre of their life. Without education they will not be able to live a life full of knowledge. If they focus on their education they will be able to find a job and have a wealthy life. I hope this program allows them to get their grades up and help them speak english fluently. After the program they should be able to speak fluent english and have outstanding grades. This organisation should be related to the gospel passages and catechisms. With these children educated the economy can grow and there will be future leaders of the world.
