In this essay we will review the factors that affect the student performance that results in his success. In this seminal paper by (Tomes, 1976), family is viewed as a production unit that generates utility for all its members. There are three ways through which parents can influence: first ability transmitted to child at the time of birth. Secondly parents are doing expenses so the care about their success. Thirdly other than resources the most important is what location they give ? What kind of family structure they are living in? and should take a look on environment in which they grow. In the develop (Ortiz & Dehon 2008).
Parents are the motivators and role models for their children. If they assist their child learning, actively involves in child education. Parental involvement is the degree to which a parent is committed to his or her role as a parent and to the fostering of optimal child development (Nyarko, 2011) (Africa et al. 2015).
In the developed countries the environment of the campus and activities outside the classroom such as appreciation, coordination and relationship with others in the campus plays a vital role. In addition there are other factors such as personality, physical health motivation, mental ability. Students with higher level of satisfaction are academically better (Botha et al. 2015).
It is often difficult to measure services. They are intangible in nature and cannot be similar each day and difficult to maintain in the long run. Education services are also important in success. They result in transformation of knowledge, life skills, and behavior modification. The social system of schools and family provides crucial support. High involvement of parents will also increase the success rate, as well as educated parents plays their part as well (Farooq et al. 2011).
Goal commitment enhances the task by designing the short term goals or through effective strategies to attain their goals. It is difficult to achieve long term goal due to self efficacy and perceived value of goals and amount of time required for studies. Academic engagement increases through personal interest, degree of understanding and mastering the knowledge skill. Extra-curricular and social activities helps to recognize the students in the institution that helps them to attain their goals (Horn 2014).
Further (kever, 2009) said that student success is affected by language barrier, poverty and lack of financial support. Further there are mostly three main factors which influence on success Internal, External and Motivation. Success hinder due to over-crowded elementary schools and lack of basic and human resources. Experienced teachers are giving low salaries in these schools which decrease their efforts (yosso, 2006). Better understanding of the institution, high parental involvement, residential stability and incentive for continuation are also the success factors (Chavez 2011).
Students who have stronger high school records, who come from higher income families, whose parents went also went to college, who do not delay college entry after high school, who attend full time, and who do not interrupt their college studies are more likely to graduate (adelman, bailey, & cabrera, 1999;2003). Institutional factors which includes leadership, local political environment and faculty relations also effects student success (Bailey et al. 2005).
Psychological models place the responsibility for student persistence on the individual. The individual’s intellectual abilities, personality traits, and willingness to meet the
demands of college studies determine whether the student persists (Tinto, 1993). Several factors affect the students success including educational goals, school performance, ethnicity, and gender. Academic variables, including study skills and study habits, academic advising, absenteeism, major certainty.
Psychological variables also included value of the education in terms of future
employment, satisfaction in the role as a student or lack of boredom in class, personal
goals and earning a degree (Bean, J.P, Metzner, & B.S, 1985). Active questioning in learning and finding pleasure in reading is also a factor (Wircenski & Membe n.d.).
Teaching plays a handful part in the success of a student. So creativity of a teacher is a factor on which success depends solely. The students must transform themselves to the methods of the teachers and teachers as well need to be vary his instructions or way of teaching to fit the student. This is a value adding process the value is added to the student on each step in school to upwards by each teacher. Poor attendance is one of the main cause or factor of a success vice versa high attendance can cause in success. The habit of absenteeism can cause for his entire educational life that can badly damage his academics. Another problem that hinders performance is poverty. Poverty had caused increased emotional and societal changes. An unconditional love, guidance and support should be available to children aged from 3-8 years. Safe, stable and predictable environment (Rutledge et al. n.d.).
General consensus among the researchers that students from higher income families whom parents are also educated have higher chances of success than those of lower income families (Moore & Shulock 2009).
Development of skills and knowledge is key to student success. The extent to which students are able to learn, to think critically, develop a problem solving skills, and analyze the information (Billups & Kite 2010)
