Underwater life is very beautiful and there are more peculiar and unique creature living. We all have completely forgotten about those creatures and many would not have heard about the fantastic facts about the underwater life and the rare living creatures in it. Water is the driving force for all nature and it is the fuel for all life. Let us discuss the different underwater life; their wonderful existence and their contribution to the human life on earth.

Peculiar creatures of the underwater life

There are many peculiar creatures living in the underwater. They have unique features and are considered as a rare species. The below-mentioned species consists of the most peculiar features and habits.

Anguilla Eels- The walking species

This European species lives in the same lake for about twenty years and is widely found in the northern Europe and the United Kingdom. They can even walk out of water in the land surface in search of food. This peculiar species has the capability to move from one lake to the other if the water in the present lake is not sufficient. The larger eels can even cross dry land and it is said that they can even attack people.

Catfish and it numerous taste buds

It has ten times more taste buds than humans because humans have only 2000 to 8000 taste buds but catfish has around 10000 taste buds. It can easily sense the taste of the prey even from a long distance. It uses its taste buds more than compared to their eyes. Even is a catfish lost its eyes it can still hunt the prey with the help of its taste buds.

Colossal Squid – The brain digester

This is considered as the only species that uses its brain for digestion. According to BBC in 2007 near Antarctica in the Ross Sea the New Zealand crew of fisherman’s found this species and found out the incredible news that through the centres of its brain runs the digestive system. The nutrients of the prey are directly pulled by the brain before it could reach its stomach.

Dolphins and their sonar waves

Dolphins highly use its sonar capability for all its activities. To communicate, hunt and also travel is made easy only through the sonar frequency. The sonar frequency range is very high where the dolphins can scan the body of the other species.

Importance of underwater life to our economy

Our economy is completely dependent on the water bodies. The United States is considered highly economy country and the Marine transportation of United States carries nearly 95% of foreign trade. It doesn’t end only with trading but the tourism also plays a major role which helps in generating a high income to the nation. The water bodies are considered as the high absorbent of carbon and producing nearly half of the oxygen of the atmosphere. According to Protect Planet Ocean, It is been considered that nearly 71 percent of the earth is covered with water and half of the population live near the coastal areas. Our entire human life is interdependent on the water ecosystems.

Human life without aquatic ecosystem

It is very hard to think a life without water bodies. The heating temperature of the earth is balanced due to the aquatic ecosystems. The climatic conditions and the pressure of the earth are propositional to the water bodies. If there is a threat to the water bodies then it inversely affects the climatic conditions and affects the human life. The natural disasters are due to the changes in the aquatic ecosystems. The best example which suits this is the Tsunami which brought a great loss to the human life. It is declared by the scientist that the earthquake in the water surface is the cause for the Tsunami.

Threats to the underwater life creatures by humans

The organization which works for the biodiversity conservation is World Wide Fund for Nature( WWF ) and it is been said by them that the major threats are the unsustainable fishing, pollution, climatic change, lack of protection, high development of tourism industry and the introduction of Oil and GAS industry. The lack of awareness had led to the severe threats to the underwater life species.

The underwater life is most important for the human life. Our ancestors had survived due to the water bodies. The water ecosystem even today is contributing a lot to the world’s existence. The importance and the awareness about the underwater life are not known to everyone. There are many endangered species in the water ecosystem and if their existence stops then the human life will also soon come to an end. Let all work towards the protection of the water bodies and the numerous species in it which is the reason for the human existence.
