For the past 15 years or so the Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the most underrated teams in the NFL. Before 2013, the chiefs had only bad seasons. Since Head Coach Andy Reid took over in 2013 they have had three playoff appearances. In all but one year they lost in the first round of the playoffs.  Be prepared to read this several times because they lose in the first round of the playoffs more than most teams (Armstrong.)

According to Joel Thorman in the article “Predicting the Kansas City Chiefs 2013

season” the Chiefs were supposed to finish with a 9-7 regular season record, and with the Chiefs having a preseason record of 2-2 this 9-7 seemed like a good prediction. The only thing keeping Chiefs fans hopeful was a new Quarterback named Alex Smith and a new Head Coach named Andy Reid. According to Pro football reference in Andy Reid Football Executive Record with the Philadelphia eagles Andy Reid’s record was 114-77. A winning record, but fans were skeptical because you could say he most of his success from Quarterback Michael Vick. Vick had a 28-3 record with the Eagles before he was removed from the team after he was convicted of animal abuse. By the time week three rolled around the Chiefs were 3-0. They were playing the Giants, and by halftime the Chiefs were holding onto a 10-7 lead. According to Megan Armstrong in the top ten most important moments of the Chiefs 2013 season most fans thought 3-0 was just a fluke. They ended up winning 31-7 and continuing their winning season. (Armstrong.) (Thorman.)(Pro Football reference.)

According to Megan Armstrong in “The top ten most important moments of the Chiefs 2013 season” in week seven the Chiefs were 7-0 and were playing the Raiders, their rivals. In a planned attempt by the fans and by the Chiefs they broke the world record for the loudest stadium in the NFL. Halfway through the third quarter they had given up hope, they hadn’t quite broken the record yet. But much to the relief of all of the fans an announcement was made that they had broken the record. They had broken the old record of 136.6 decibels with 137.5 decibels. But in the same season The Seahawks would reclaim their record. But in 2014 the Chiefs destroyed the old record with 142.2 decibels. (Armstrong)(Gonos)

According to Megan Armstrong in top 10 best moments of the Chiefs 2013 season.By week Eleven the Chiefs were 9-0 and playing against the Broncos and their mighty offense. The Broncos offense at this point was legendary. They had one of the greatest quarterbacks in Football history in Peyton Manning. Two great wide receivers in Demaryius Thomas and Wes Walker. But the Chiefs had a defense that was just as good as the Broncos offense. With Derrick Johnson, Justin Houston, Tamba Hali, Eric Berry, Dontari Poe, and a few other great defensive players. This defense haven’t allowed over 17 points in a season up to this point. The. Chiefs lost 17-27, this would be the start for a three game losing streak. They would lose to the Charger and then the Broncos again. Throughout the rest of the regular season the they would win and lose another two games for a regular season record of 11-5. Then they would lose to the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs 45-44.(Armstrong)

The 2013 season would start so far all winning seasons. In 2016 they took a risk on a player coming from the draft; Tyreek Hill. Two things stood out about Tyreek he was removed from his original college for hitting his girlfriend, and he ran a 4.24 forty. If the Chiefs took him he would be the fastest player in the NFL, they did take him and in his first year he scored six touchdowns from three different positions running back wide receiver and returner. They call him the cheetah and he continues to perform at a high level. In 2016 they finished 12-4 and they lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Steelers. They almost made the comeback but a hold from Eric Fischer got the two point conversion called back and then the second try was failed.(Oleszczak.) (Si Wire)

Throughout most of my lifetime I have heard the Chiefs called the Chefs because they were never any good. The chiefs have had several good season since 2013 and 2017 is looking pretty good so far. They drafted running back Kareem Hunt and he is leading the NFL in yards for running backs. They are currently 5-3 and are playing the worst team in the NFL this week therefore, I expect 6-3 by next week.
