Real Madrid is better than F.C. Barcelona
Barcelona have always been one of the best teams in the world, but when you compare them to Real Madrid, it's almost like comparing a Honda to Ferrari. Soccer is a sport well known around the world and is played in nearly every country, although, the best teams compete in European competition. Other giants in European soccer include the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, but none of them even come close to being compared to the Spanish giants. These two teams are huge in Europe and for soccer fans around the world. Almost anyone in the world knows these two amazing teams, but asking them which they think is better, sparks an argument between the two sides. Both teams were founded in the late 1800’s and have been dominant since they were created and came into fruition. Though both teams were, and still are, exhilarating teams to watch, Real Madrid are the statistically better team.
Whenever soccer analysts discuss on topics about which team is better, the first thing they look at is the trophy list. Soccer teams compete for multiple trophies each year. Every professional team, that has a league tournament, try their hardest to get within the first four spots in the league. The reason for that is that the team who places fourth or higher is allowed to participate in the Champions league tournament the following year. The more wins a team gets, the more they are allowed to develop their trophy list by allowing them to participate in more competitions. In Barcelona’s 117-year history, they have collected a total of 90 trophies. Winning the La Liga trophy 24 times by having the best record. They also won 29 Copa del Rey titles (Bracket style tournament with all Spanish teams), and 5 Champions league titles (Tournament between all the best teams across Europe). That accomplishment has not been achieved by any other team on the planet besides Barcelona. On the other side of Spain, Madrid has been around for 115 years, winning 87 trophies, including 33 La Liga titles, 19 Copa del Rey titles, and 12 Champions League titles. While Madrid have won slightly less trophies overall, they have also been around for two fewer years. Madrid has won 64 from the 3 other tournaments, while Barcelona has won 58. Both teams have been annihilating opposing competition, but when comparing the trophy list between the two, Real Madrid prove their prestige.
Proving Real Madrid is better than Barcelona would best be confirmed by showing the head to head statistics. To make the comparison simple, the previously discussed competitions will be compared. Throughout their history in said competitions, they have played each other a total of 215 times; 33 times in the Copa del Rey, 174 in the league, and 8 in the Champions League. The overall results have been staggeringly close with 87 wins for Madrid, 85 wins for Barcelona, and 43 draws between them. Between those 215 games they have only drawn 43 times with Real Madrid winning only 2 more games in total against Barcelona. These two teams wouldn't be called ‘giants’ if they weren't involved in entertaining games against each other. Even though it is a small step ahead of Barcelona, two wins over them is still two wins.
Teams are also compared to by their squad and the depth they have on their roster. With both these teams being huge super teams, the list of superstar talents seems to go forever since every player dreams of playing for them. The biggest individual awards a player can get is the Ballon D’Or award, which is also known as the player of the year award. The award was created in the late 1950’s and of recently both teams have seen their own players win it. Barcelona has had 6 players win the award whilst on their team. Real Madrid have also received 6 players winning the award while playing for the club, but Real Madrid have signed multiple Ballon D’Or winners, making them have more award winners on their team. Without star players on both teams there wouldn't be any support. The world class players are the money makers, they are what make the fans come in and support. With Real Madrid having more award winners on the team, it’s only fitting that they have more supporters spanning the whole world.
During the past 4 seasons Barcelona and Real Madrid have played 11 games against each other. Both teams are deadlocked on 5 wins, with one tie, Barcelona have won La Liga two times while Madrid have won it once, and Barcelona have won the Copa del Rey three times while Madrid have only won it once. In the aspect of those two competitions Barcelona would have the upper hand, but the champions league trophy is what matters most. In the past 4 years Real Madrid have won 3 champions league trophy, giving them a huge upper hand on their biggest rivals. Real Madrid even wrote their name in the history books by being one of the only team to win the award 2 seasons in a row.
To conclude, both teams are perfect teams to follow if you are just getting into the sport. With magisterial goals and wonder plays, these two giants make it super exiting to follow the game. Even though Barcelona are neck and neck with Real Madrid, Madrid still has the statistical lead in the soccer world. Real Madrid will continue their greatness for ages to come, with their supporters chanting them on with the inspiring words “Hala Madrid”. Although nothing is permanent, it is almost certain that they will always be in competition with Barcelona. The prestige and pride players get by wearing the Real Madrid jersey is something they never forget or take for granted. Every kid dreams of being a Madridsta, and with that dream, the magical game lives on.
