Over the years, technology has given rise to many advancements as well as many degradations in society. The use of technology today is widely available throughout the world and aggressively promoted throughout society. While technology can make life easier for some people, it also can create some problems for our society. Technology is very useful for communication, business industries and has helped towards progressions in the medical field. On the other hand, it has caused less face to face interaction and in a way has reduced human effort. It also contributes to negative health effects. Technology can be a strong advantage in society, as well as have negative factors associated with it.

The world is now more interconnected than ever before in history. Due to the creation of cell phones, email, and computers, people are able to communicate from all over the world. Social networking platforms and dating websites have facilitated the process of socializing. Communication with foreign countries is quicker and easier, and research is easier. This is very useful for business, enabling workers to be able to send an instant message, has drastically increased productivity as well as save time. Another useful tool is mass communication. Schools and businesses use electronic communication very frequently to communicate with a large number of people. For example, e-mail is very useful for mass communication to their staff.

A significant benefit of technological communication that is often overlooked is how technology can give disabled people the ability to communicate. Communication technology, has invented tools like electronic communication boards and specialized computer software, to help individuals who cannot speak be able to communicate. People are able to complete personal tasks like banking and paying bills online.  Sales and purchases can be shipped worldwide and faster to. Machines carry out most of the agricultural and industrial work in modern industrial society and as a result, workers can produce many more goods than a century ago and work less as well.

The evolution of technology is beneficial in the medical field for a multitude of reasons; technological innovation in medicine plays a significant role in healthcare. Areas like pharmaceuticals, biomedical engineering and the development of medical devices and equipment have all made crucial contributions to improving the health of people all around the world. Technologies like MRI machines, artificial organs, and robotic prosthetic limbs have undoubtedly made an incredible impression on medicine. The invention of medical equipment technology has created robotic surgeries which allow for a minimally-invasive procedure that leaves patients with less scarring and significantly less recovery time; technological innovation can help treat more sick people and consequently save many lives and combat very harmful viruses and bacteria. The computer offers a wide web full of research to aid in collaboration of finding new methods and possible cures to disease. All medical records are being kept electronically now which is more efficient. Doctors are also easier to reach and becoming better at their jobs with technology enabling them to use email, texts, videos, and conference calls to contact colleagues from all over the world. Prosthetics are a very important technological invention; as prosthetics get more advanced they are helping people who lose a limb be able to function better than before.

Conversely, human effort is on a decline due to the increased dependence on technology. Many technological advancements are invented to reduce human effort, which explains why more work is done by machines. With a calculator at hand, there is no need to work out the problems and basically, think on our own. In some areas, technology can surpass the human mind and even become smarter than us. Society is starting to have a serious lack of contact with other people and less participation in social activities. We can isolate ourselves because we prefer online communication, and are starting to avoid face-to-face interaction. The greatest negative effect of technology is on the generation of children growing up right now. Many children have not lived without cell phones and all of the technology around us, which contributes to our society’s increasing dependence on technology.

Technology can also become a serious threat to health. “The more time people are spending looking at their computer screens, phones, and playing games online they are spending less time exercising and being active; this can result in increased consumption of unhealthy food, depression, and obesity. Also, there is a huge possibility of loss of eyesight and hearing, in people who spend too much time looking at computer and device screens and using headphones. The need to be constantly online and up to date with everything creates an additional level of stress; for instance, studies have shown that most of us, from time to time, hear nonexistent mobile phone ringing or vibrating, which is a sign that the body is under huge stress. Another negative effect of technology is the lack of sleep. Technology can keep us up too late and the glow from the screens of our devices affects the release of melatonin” (“Top 9 Negative Impacts Of Technology On Society”). Cell-phones are also said to be a possible cause of cancer. Society is not only dependent on technology – they can be addicted to it. Many studies have shown that when smartphones are taken away, they become nervous and restless, which are some of the withdrawal symptoms you would expect from doing drugs.

In conclusion, technology has completely changed the way society functions; the impression of technology on society can be both positive and negative. Technology has significantly influenced many aspects of living in today’s society. It has made daily life tasks much easier, but so easy that it may not be a benefit in the future. It has given rise to many advancements as well as many degradations in society. Technology is very useful for communication, business industries and has helped towards progressions in the medical field; but, has caused less face to face interaction and in a way has reduced human effort. It also contributes to negative health effects. Technology can be a strong advantage in society, as well as have negative factors associated with it. The changes in this world most definitely have been tied to the advancement of the technology, along with the drawbacks as well.
