Situated on the banks of the Potomac River across from the nation’s capital lies Arlington, Virginia which is one of the most popular cities in the Greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Located less than 5 miles from Washington, D.C., Arlington carries the torch for the best of both urban lifestyle and suburban living. Arlington has something to offer for everyone.  Great for sports fans, great for history fanatics, great for walkers or bikers, great school systems, and great for food lovers.  Recently, Arlington was actually named one of the fittest cities in America because of all of our trails and gyms.

Arlington, Virginia is home to over 200,000 living, and over 400,000 deceased.  Yes, you heard that correctly, there are more dead people in Arlington than alive.  Arlington is the site for the famous Arlington National Cemetery, established as an American military cemetery during the Civil War. The cemetery sits on the grounds of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee’s home, Arlington House, and veterans from all the nation’s wars are buried in the cemetery, from the American Revolution through The War on Terrorism in Iraq. President John F. Kennedy’s grave is there, too, marked with the Eternal Flame.  In addition to housing the national cemetery, Arlington is also home to the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, or commonly called “Iwo Jima Memorial”.  The statue is a depiction of the famous raising of the U.S. flag on Iwo Jima and is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives defending the flag.  Contrary to popular belief the Pentagon is located in Arlington, VA not Washington D.C.  The Pentagon is the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense.

With a population of around 220,000 people, Arlington is one of the wealthiest counties in the United States with a median household income just over $100,000. These high incomes come from the numerous government and corporate jobs that exist in the surrounding area.

One thing about Arlington that separates it than most cities is that there are very residential areas that just have houses and houses, and then there is very urban areas that have high-rises.  Arlington is split up into Ashton Heights, Arlington Ridge, Aurora Highlands, Bluemont, Ballston, Cherrydale, Clarendon, Colombia Pike, Donaldson Run, East Falls Church, Leeway, Lyon Park, Old Glebe, Rosslyn, Shirlington, Westover, Williamsburg, Yorktown.   Of those listed Ashton Heights, Arlington Ridge, Aurora Highlands, Bluemont, Cherrydale, Colombia Pike, Donaldson Run, East Falls Church, Leeway, Lyon Park, Lyon Village, Old Glebe, Williamsburg, and Yorktown are all mainly residential areas that house the majority of the families in Arlington.  Most of those cities are close to the metro, and are near great biking trails.  Differently than these residential neighborhoods there are these few areas that are very city like.  They have high rises and so many restaurants.  Ballston has two metro stops within it and has countless restaurants so it is very walkable.  This is a very city like neighborhood because they don’t really have in single family homes just condominiums.  In addition, there is plenty of retail, and lots of business’.  The Clarendon-Courthouse neighborhood is the epicenter of Arlington.  It is a lot of young adult’s favorite place to go on the weekends.  If you want to be surrounded by restaurants, bars, grocery stores, fitness studios, and retail stores, this is the neighborhood for you.  This is home to a lot of millennials.  Similar to Clarendon, Rosslyn is also very city like.  Rosslyn sits directly across the river from Washington D.C.   Rosslyn consists of numerous high-rise commercial and residential building that create a beautiful skyline.  Rosslyn offers some of the nicest high-rise condominiums in Arlington that have terrific views of Georgetown, and the River.

Arlington truly does have something to offer for everyone.  Whether you want to live in a rural area or urban area this is the place for you.  Arlington has food from all cultures including Italian, Greek, Thai, Japanese, Hawaiian, Indian, Irish, American.  It has some of the best public schools in the state.  Literally anything you want you can find in Arlington, VA.
