Except for explicit instances of trash in their yard or acid rain ruining the paint job on their car, people rarely pay close attention to the personal toll pollution takes on their lives. This is because often we cannot see, smell, or taste the pollution that is most dangerous to us. But be warned Pollution is in the air, the water, and the food supply and is slowly poisoning us all.

Air pollution causes serious cardiovascular problems, including asthma, heart attacks, stroke, lung cancer and even death. According to clean air advocate Supryia Ray, fine particles emitted from U.S.A power plants cause 23,600 premature deaths, 38,200 nonfatal heart attacks, and 554,000 asthma attacks every year. In fact, the EPA has estimated that pollution shortens the lives of victims by an average of 14 years.

In 2003, American beaches collectively had more than 18,00 unhealthy days. On these days, thousands of beaches on America's shoreline posted adventurous that warned people against getting in the water fearing they might contract dangerous bacteria. water is underneath assault from varied varieties of pollution.

For centuries, humans unknowingly contaminated sources of drinking water with raw sewage, which led to diseases such as cholera and typhoid. According to a CNN report, one gram of human excrement contains approximately “10 million viruses, 1 million bacteria, 1,000 parasite cysts and 100 parasite eggs.” Today, over 1 billion people worldwide lack access to safe water and each fifteen seconds somewhere on the world, a baby dies from a water-related sickness, in keeping with Water Partners International. The Earth’s surface is

roofed by over common fraction of water. With half the globe being coated by water; pollution within the water could be a terribly huge crisis which will truly be reduced to some extent. Water pollution could be a human downside as a result of it looks to be a recent development that started around the finish of the nineteenth century. Scientists say that “humans have limits with associate judicable seven billion individuals on the world, and pollution might be a signal of exceeded pollution. According to the WWF (World life Fund) pollution could be a significant issue. “Pollution from nephrotoxic chemicals threatens life on this planet. Every ocean and each continent, from the tropics to the once-pristine polar regions, is contaminated." Now that we know how serious it is, let’s talk about what pollution is, what causes it, the effects, and how we can help. Water pollution is described as one substance or more building up to a certain level and causing problems to animals or humans. Bodies of water such as; oceans, lakes, and rivers can harmlessly and naturally clean up certain amounts of pollution by dissolving it. On April twenty, 2010 the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil rig within the Gulf of Mexico exploded, killing eleven employees and resulting in the worst oil spill and environmental catastrophe in US history.

A busted underwater pipe spewed nearly five million barrels of oil into the Gulf over 3 months, threatening many miles of beaches, wetlands, and estuaries. Thousands of animals, as well as turtles, crabs, fish, and birds fell victim, and therefore the native fishing and tourist industries suffered badly.

Water pollution is all concerning quantities how a lot of a polluting substance is free and the way huge a volume of water it's free into a tiny low amount of a nephrotoxic chemical could have very little impact if it's spilled into the ocean from a ship, however constant quantity of

constant chemical will have a far larger impact pumped into a lake or river. The water is less clean and would be hard to disperse the chemical. Water pollution nearly always means that there is some type of damage to the ocean, river, lake, or other water types.

Autobiography

Laurie B. Friedman born 1964 is associate yanked author. She is hottest for the Mallory McDonald chapter book series for 7-10-year old's, printed by Darby Creek, a division of Lerner commercial enterprise cluster. She has conjointly written several image books, as well as Ruby Valentine Saves the Day, I am Not fearful of this Haunted House, and Back-to-School Rules In fall of 2013, she will release a new journal-format series for older readers entitled The Mostly Miserable Life of April Sinclair.

Chapter one

In Chapter one the main two points are air pollution and water pollution. These two connected to people because people and pollution are connected to the world. People and pollution are both harming the world. Pollution is caused by humans throwing trash and other things into the water and gas polluting the hair. Air pollution and water pollution are connected because both are harming the world because of people contaminating them. In this chapter the rhetorical strategy the author uses enumeration, giving detail about what the air and water pollution is doing to different varieties of water and places on Earth. Destroying habitats causing to kill animals and ruin food chains which causes us to lose certain types of food we eat.

* Contamination- the action or state of making or being made impure by polluting or poisoning. (blacken is a synonym for contamination. Cleanse is an antonym for contamination)

* Air quality- a measurement of the pollutants in the air. (atmosphere is a synonym for air quality. materiality is an antonym for air quality)

* Pollutant- any substance, as a waste product that renders the air, soil, water, or other natural resource harmful or unsuitable. (Waste is a synonym for pollutant. Providence is an antonym for pollutant)

Air pollution and water pollution are both types of pollution that are cause by humans and their waste. Air pollution is dangerous because of all the gases and waste in the air is causes acid rain. Air pollution also causes health problems for humans and animals. Water pollution is a big problem for the oceans, lakes, and rivers. The pollution in the water is mostly causing pesticides and oil spills in these bodies of water. This is causing health problems for humans and animals, mostly animals at sea.

The author is speaking to the people who care about the community and the world, animal lovers, people who are very healthy and that are concerned about their health, and people who want to help the world. The author is against global warming and tries to find ways to help prevent it. Laurie S. Friedman writes books about things that we should be worried about and taking actions to fix. She has a background in protesting and volunteering to clean up pollution and saving animals.

The author’s tone is preservative because she wants to make sure the world is in-tact and that people are safe. The author’s attitude is positive because she was saying ways to make the world a better place and ways to prevent health problems. The author was not being negative when she was explaining the pollution and things it does to people and the community she was mostly saying ways to fix the problem instead of not finding ways to

fix it and just letting the problem be without an argument. The author uses cautionary words to warn people of the dangers of pollution.

The tones of the chapter are cautionary, preservative, and positive. When the author says in chapter one on page seven that “Pollution causes serious health problems, such as lung cancer and heart disease. By picking up trash and not throwing it into the water and instead of using gas powered cars use electric cars instead the world would be much healthier”. She is being cautionary by telling people what problems pollution is causing them and ways to prevent that from happening. The tone is helping people rethink thier decision on polluting because of the serious dangers it will cause them. On page thirty-five in chapter one she is being preservative when she says,” I always recycle any plastic I use in my home and find resourceful ways to prevent polluting anywhere around me to keep the world cleansed”. The author is being preservative by saying she finds ways to keep from polluting in any type of way. The author’s tone is saying that being preservative of the earth wouldn’t hurt you to do it. The tone is reinsuring that there are ways to not pollute. When the author says on page forty that “we can stop polluting by helping each other find ways to recycle and slowly start progress into being a cleaner place.” The author’s tone is positive because she is encouraging people that they can help fix the world and make it a better place just by making the littlest changes to help. The tone is being effective because it is giving them hope that they can change the world basically by doing the right thing when it comes to polluting.

I feel that the author reasoning is good. I agree with her when it comes to pollution, it needs to come to an end. Pollution is harming us and the world and if we want it to come

to an end, we need to fix it. The ways she is telling us that we can prevent it is giving me hope that we can stop pollution before it gets entirely to the point where it cannot be fixed.

Chapter two

In chapter two the main points are how pollution is making us sick and ways to clean-up pollution and prevent it from happening. The first point is connected to people because people can make themselves sick and can inflict sickness on themselves. The second point is connected to me, cleaning up is connected to me because once I clean-up I find ways to prevent It from happening again and try my best to keep it clean. The rhetorical strategy the author uses are enumeratio and antanagoge. The author uses enumeratio to give detail of how causes people to get sick and step by step on how to clean-up after something has been polluted. The author also uses antanagoge by saying some things might appear no attractive to the eye, but it still has a good reasoning.

* Litter- trash that is not disposed of in a way that prevents harm to the ecosystem. (garbage is a synonym for litter. Cleanliness is an antonym for litter)

* Recycle- collecting old or used items, process them, and make new items. (recover is a synonym for recycle. Endanger is an antonym for litter)

* Reuse- using something again before throwing away. (reprocess is a synonym for reuse. Throw-out is an antonym for reuse.)

Chapter two is about steps to take to clean-up polluted areas around the world and ways to prevent pollution. Pollution is making animals and humans sick by people being careless of where they throw their trash. People are inflicting sickness onto themselves and animals by polluting the air, water, and land. The best way to prevent pollution is by cleaning the pollution up and stopping others from doing it.

In this chapter, the author is speaking to people who love to help the environment and people who are always concerned about things that could cause them sickness. The author is a protester against global warming and a volunteer helper to cleaning up bodies of water after it has polluted the land. The author starts groups to help the ecosystem and prevents harm to animals and humans. The author also has research clubs that determine what diseases are caused by pollution.

The author’s tone in this chapter is sympathetic because the author feels bad for the animals and humans that have gotten sick because of pollution and how dirty the pollution has made the air, land, and water. The author’s attitude is also positive in this chapter because she listed ways to prevent sicknesses and giving people hope that they can overcome their sicknesses by helping prevent pollution. The author is using positive and assertive words to prove her point that anyone can fix a mistake.

The tones of chapter two are sympathetic, positivity, and assertiveness, On page sixty-five in chapter two when the author says, “My condolences goes out for the people and

animals that are sick and dying because of what others are doing to ruin their health and ecosystem”. The author is being sympathetic because those people and animals should not have to die because of the mistake others are making by polluting the air, water, and land. The tone in the text is affecting people by letting them know what pollution did and can do to people and animals, if they continue to pollute. On page seventy-two in chapter two, when the author says “We can fix this problem with the help of others. we can stop pollution before it gets very bad”. The author is being positive by encouraging others to help stop the problem before it gets too bad. The tone is affecting the people by letting them know it’s never too late to help and make things better. On page eighty-four the author says “I will start groups clubs to protest against polluting. We will clean up the mess we put here that is destroying the ecosystem. The authors used assertiveness to make people clean up what they destroyed. This tone affected the text by the author being bold and letting everyone know what they are going to do to make things right in the ecosystem.

I agree with the author. The author is right about cleaning-up what we have destroyed. It is not right that others are getting sick because of others being careless by polluting everywhere. People should try to fix polluting by recycling and reusing items to prevent pollution. Personally, I believe people should help clean-up.

Chapter three

In chapter main point in chapter three is pollution. What types of pollution, what pollution does to the ecosystem, how it harms people and animals, and how to prevent pollution. I connect pollution to death. The reason I connected these two are because pollution is basically another form of death because of how much harm it does to people. The rhetorical strategy the author uses in chapter three is enumeratio because of the detail the author gives about what pollution does, what causes pollution, the types of pollution, and how it is harming people and animals. The second rhetorical strategy is epanastrophe because the author is ending the sentences with pollution and starting it with the next.

* Pollution- addition of harmful material into the community. (Contamination is synonym for pollution. Clean is an antonym for pollution)

* Smog- a thick layer of air pollution that is a mixture of smoke and fog. (Haze is a synonym, for smog. Rain is an antonym for smog.)

* Landfills- a land where garbage goes (Junkyard is a synonym for landfills. Highland is an antonym for landfills.)

Chapter three is about the different types of pollution. The different types of pollutions are air, land, and water. The pollution is causing deaths of animals and people. The pollution is causing the air to be bad to breath, the water to be dangerous to swim in, and the land being unrecognizable by all the trash. The ways to prevent pollution are easy by recycling and reusing items also helping clean up the trash.

In this chapter, the author is speaking to people who are concerned about polluting and what is does to people and animals also the world. The author reads books about pollution
