Kenya is located on the eastern coast of Africa. It is roughly 225,000 miles squared and is about the same size as Texas. From where you are standing right now, it would take approximately 19 hours to travel to Kenya. In 2016, the population was recorded as 48.6 million people living there.
Kenya has had people there ever since human history began. Tribal hunter gatherer groups were the first to populate the area. They were followed by a farming civilization. Around this time, about 100 farmers from Nigeria brought iron working to Kenya. Arab and Persian traders set up settlements and built churches along the coast in the 8th century. f
Poverty is one of the biggest problems that the world faces. The poverty that takes place in more undeveloped countries such as Kenya, Africa. This has greatly affected the people because of the diseases that are being spread throughout the entire state. The lack of medical supplies that is needed for each doctor, and contaminated water and a very scarce amount of food is not helping with this problem.
The health and well being of the citizens of Kenya is horrible. With Kenya’s many water sources, Kenya has a high rate of water-borne diseases. Most of these water-borne diseases are not found in developed countries because of the up to date water systems that filter water to get rid of all bacteria. Another way that the Kenyans get diseases are mosquito-carried diseases. Malaria spreads to about eight million people each year. Kenya has been trying to fight against malaria, but they have poor knowledge of the disease and lack the equipment needed for the health facilities. Many people believe that the Government should invest more in trying to help fight the disease with new tools and resources.
Kenya is divided into seven provinces and one area. The president is both chief of state and head of the government. He is chosen from among the members of the National Assembly, and is elected by popular vote for a five year term. The president appoints both a vice-president and a cabinet. The legislature consists of 222 members, where twelve are appointed by the president and the rest elected by popular vote.
Wangari Muta Maathai was born in Nyeri, an area of Kenya, in 1940. She obtained a degree in Biological Sciences from Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kansas in 1964. Then she got her Master of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1966. Lastly she gained doctoral studies in Germany at the University of Nairobi, before obtaining a Phd. from the University of Nairobi, where she also taught veterinary anatomy. Wangari Muta Maathai was first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a doctorate degree. She was the first woman to reach those positions in the region.

Kenya gained independence in 1963 and has experienced development up until the 1980's when the development process came to stop. However, development started once again in the 1990's and also slowed down. Kenya has experienced many complications in the development process. Corruption is one of the main reasons why the development has been a slow process in Kenya. As a result, unemployment remains a major issue. Due to unemployment, over 17 million people in Kenya are trapped in the cruel cycle of poverty. There are no jobs available, therefore there is little savings in the economy, resulting in little or no investment.
Today, Kenya is a multi-ethnic country with as many as 42 different ethnic groups. each of these groups have different languages, dress, music, and food. But a huge part of Kenya is religion. There are more than 4,000 registered churches in Kenya. The churches in Kenya are mostly Christian, though many other religions exist in Kenya. Islam is another major religion in Kenya. Followers include both Sunni and Shiite Muslims. The few Kenyans who follow “Hinduism and Sikhism” are mainly Indians. They can be found in most major towns and cities across Kenya.
Kenya is still not a developed country, for all we know it might never be developed. I think Kenya’s government should do something to try and end poverty or else they will always remain undeveloped. Or even worse, there might not be such a thing as Kenya anymore.
