Week 2:
Treaty of Versailles:
This was a treaty that was created in the year of 1919 in the month of June. (When) This treaty did not become effective until a year later when it was January of 1920. This was a treaty that helped bring World War I to an end. This was also a treaty that happen to end a war between Germany and the allied powers (Who). This treaty was planned and came to gather in Paris, France (Where) and was sign on the date of June 28, 1919 in Versailles. In the book it states “Despite the fact that the Treaty of Versailles forced the Germans to disband their air units” (MM, Pg. 33).
Invasion of USSR:
The invasion of the USSR happened in the year of 1941.By the end of this invasion it was just a mess and quite a destructive one. This invasion so happen to be the largest German military operation of World War 2. The countries that were mainly involved in this invasion just so happened to be Germany and Russia. This invasion helped eliminate the communist threat towards Germany. In the book it states, “In 1941, the invasion of the USSR redirected his attention eastwards” (Mazower 6).
Week 3:
League of Nations:
An organization that is an international that was established on January 10, 1920 as a result of the Paris Peace Conference that ended the first world war. This organization had a goal of maintaining world peace. It was the allied powers at the end of the first world war that really helped out in getting this organization going. In the book it states “Munich marked the moment when the Third Reich took over from the British, the French and the League of Nations as regional arbiter of central Europe” (Mazower 36).
Molotov Pact:
This is also known as the Nazi-Soviet Pact. A pact that is between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. This agreement was signed in Moscow on August 23, 1939. The people that signed the agreement were ministers Joachim von Ribbentrop and Vyacheslav Molotov. In the book it states “Hence from the soviet point of view, the Ribbentrop- Molotov Pact represented the fulfilment of long-standing territorial demands.” (Mazower 96). This agreement between this two countries really took off after the invasion of Poland.
Week 4:
Great War:
The Great War also known as the first world war as well or also known as the wars to end all wars. This war just so happened to last around 4 years. This war had originated in Europe. This war went down in history has one of the biggest wars. This war was between the Russians, French, and Great Britain. These countries were up against Italy, Germany, and Austria. In the book it states “No one anticipated what followed. Memories of the Great War and the protracted stalemate on the Western Front were still vivid, and Germany’s opponents substantially outnumbered the Wehrmacht in numbers and equipment” (Mazower 102).
The Todt Organization:
Todt Organization is a group that consists of military and civil men. This group was apart of the Third Reich. This group was named after its founder Fritz Todt. The organization was responsible for a huge range of engineering projects both in World War II Germany, in Germany itself and occupied territories from France to the Soviet Union during the war. It became notorious for using forced labour. In the book it states that “ a state-run engineering group had emerged out of the Third Reich’s earlier motorway construction projects; by 1940 it was building fortifications and bridges as well” (Mazower 126).
Week 5:
The Battle of the Atlantic:
The Battle of the Atlantic happen to be the longest continuous campaign during the second world war. The Battle of the Atlantic was a huge part of the second world war. This Battle had came from Winston Churchill, well the name of the battle came from him. This was the longest and hard fought battle of the war. The battle of the atlantic had taken place in the month of February in the year of 1941. “The Battle of Atlantic reached its climax” (MM 234)
Operation Torch:
Operation Torch was an invasion done by the British along with the United States. The invasion was a plan of going and invading The French along with the North Africa. This invasion took place during the North American campaign during the Second world war which had started around the November in the year of 1942. This operation was the first major move the United states were apart of during the war. “Operation Torch reflected the triumph of british strategic arguments over those of the Americans, who had pushed for an invasion of northern France as early as possible” (MM 272)
Week 6:
Treaty of Nonaggression: (Gross 21)
This was another agreement that is between Germany and the Soviets. This was an agreement that was concluded just a few days before World War II even started. This treaty also had an effect which led to Europe being divided into German and Soviet Union. Another thing which led to this agreement was that the Soviet Union was unable to reach an agreement with Britain and France against Nazi Germany. Once this treaty was signed, the pact opened the way for Hitler to begin Second World War. He took action and sent a military invasion on Poland.
Jews Of Jedwabne:
There was ninety-two names that were involved with the murders of The Jews Of Jedwabne but only nine of those names that were actually found to be guilty. The murder of these people lasted about a whole day. “It was confined to a space no bigger than a sports stadium”(Gross 55). There was another quote at the end of chapter that sums what the massacre of this event was sought out to be. “The Jewish cemetery, where many of the victims were knifed, chubbed, and stoned to death, is just across the road. And so everybody who was in the town on this day and in possession of a sense of sight, smell, or hearing either participated in or witnessed the tormented deaths of the Jews of Jedwabne.”(Gross 55). Mostly Jews were involved in this event and just so happened to be very brutal. This event happened on July 10, 1941.
Week 7:
Final Solution:
The Final Solution was a plan of just getting rid of all the jews in the Second world war. It was more than just a killing almost. They had a plan of completely wiping out the whole entire entire Jewish race. The Final Solution, I see as a Holocaust Part 2 event. This reminded of in the book it talks about the Jews killing off one another along with putting each other inside a barn and it was eventually sent the barn on fire. “ German police detachments, and various functionaries who implemented the “final solution” did not compel the local population to participate directly in the murder of Jews” (Gross 87).
Blitzkrieg:
This is a German method warfare where the German army will go all out with all of their Attack methods use their skill and speed to get through the enemy line. This is an attack method which is suppose to make it difficult on the enemy. Blitzkrieg had come to action in the year of 1935. “After all, when the Hitler launched his Blitzkrieg against the USSR in June 1941, German soldiers were received by the local population of former Polish territories as an army of liberators!” (Gross 102).

Week 10:
General Plan East:
This was a plan was gonna take place after the invasion of Poland. The General Plan East was a plan that consists of enslavement along with mass murders. This was a plan that designed liked it was an idea that would come from Hitler. This plan was to also somehow bring new order to Europe. “General Plan East had been gestating for several months with a small cluster of bright young SS-affiliated academic researchers- experts in agricultural settlement, racial science and economic geography“ (Mazower 206).
German People List (DVL)
This was introduced in the month of March in the year of 1941. This was designed to help all of those people who felt overwhelmed and lost. Due to the fact of the polish pressure in the course of the centuries. The aim of the German People List was to ensure that not one drop of German blood is lost within the German community or nation. “The so-called German People’s List (DVL) that was introduced by decree in March 1941 was designed, in the other words of Gauleiter Forster in Danzig-West Prussia, to help all of those who had been overwhelmed and lost because of the Polish pressure in the course of the centuries..” (Mazower 195).
Week 11:
Operation Barbarossa: page 319
This was a code name for the invasion of the soviet union. This invasion was done by the axis powers. This operation started in June in the year of 1941. The Germans had a plan with this invasion though. They had a plan of taking over and conquering the western part of the soviet union. They wanted this land so they can eventually own slaves which would lead to having more territories or land within the Soviet Union. “This was how General Franz Halder, chief of the army general stuff, summarized Hitler’s words on the subject when he spoke to his generals on the eve of Operation Barbarossa” (Mazower 319).
Anti-Comintern Pact:
This is a Pact that is between Germany and Japan. These were not the only two countries involved in the pact, later Italy and Spain joined the pact. This Pact was signed on November 25 in the year of 1936 in Berlin, Germany. The man who signed the pact was Joachim von Ribbentrop. In the book it states that, “the foreign ministers of Germany, Italy and Japan were due to meet in berlin to renew the 1936 Anti-Comintern Pact” (Mazower 323).
