Trust is the most important thing in any healthy relationship. Trust is a contributor to making a foundation in a relationship. Trust is believing in the honesty and reliability of someone. Trust is important because it helps us to create and maintain relationships, helps us to live a happy life, and helps us to succeed in life.
Trust is important because it is the basis around which all healthy relationships revolve. The author of the article “The Trouble With Trust,” Peg Streep states, “Trust is the foundation of all human connections.” ( Without trust there can be no healthy relationship. In Shakespeare’s play, “Othello,” Iago uses and takes advantage of the trust the other characters have in him to destroy them and their relationships. Othello is a victim of this. Othello believes Iago is a friend and this trust ultimately leads to Othello’s downfall. Through Iago’s influence, Othello completely destroys his relationship with the other characters, especially, his wife, Desdemona. Because Othello lost trust in Desdemona his relationship crumbled. Relationships cannot be created or maintained without trust. In the play “Othello,” Shakespeare creates a conversation between Desdemona and Othello saying, “Why? What art thou?” “Your wife, my lord, your true and loyal wife”. “Come swear it, damn thyself!” (IV, ii, 40-42). Othello chooses to believe in and trust Iago’s word over, his relationship with his wife, Desdemona. Even though Othello proves that he has no trust in her, Desdemona is still in love with him. She says, “My lord, you know I love you” (Shakespeare III,iii 134-138). Othello could no longer maintain a relationship with Desdemona because he gave all his trust to the wrong person. This eventually led to Desdemona’s death and Othello’s downfall.
Happiness is a common goal of most people. If we are not able to trust those close to us we would constantly live in fear. When we trust someone we tend to feel safe around them because of the confidence we have in them. We believe they have our best interests at heart. Jeffry A. Simpson writes: “Trust involves the juxtaposition of people’s loftiest hopes and aspirations with their deepest worries and fears.” () Many people let fear run their lives. They allow the fear of betrayal to stop them from trusting others. In the article, “The Courting of Marvin Clark, Clark put his trust in Oregon. Even though Oregon gave up on Clark, he didn’t stop pursuing his dreams. Because he continued to pursue his dreams he eventually, “made his own decision” and went to “Michigan State.”() Trust is required to find true happiness. Even if someone is a loner, they still need to trust that most people around them are doing their best to keep everyone safe. Peg Streep explains, “No one would drive a car or walk down a sidewalk, or board a train or an airplane, if we didn’t “trust” that other people took their responsibilities seriously.” Our lives depend on putting trust in others. There is no way around it. If someone were to go against this idea and never trust they would live in a constant state of fear. In the play “Othello,” Othello lives in a constant state of fear because he believes that his wife, Desdemona, is unfaithful. This eventually leads to his insanity.
Another common goal of most people is to be successful. Success is the accomplishment of an goal or purpose. Because we all have different goals, success can be found in many different forms. Some people feel they have succeed when they make a lot of money. Others feel they have succeed when they have created a family. Trust is an important part of success. Furthering yourself in your career or pursuing your dreams in any form will always require trust. You must put your trust in others and allow them to help you succeed. In “The Courting of Marvin Clark,” Clark puts his trust in his coaches, his family, and his friends. This trust allowed others to help him get into a school and ultimately help him pursue his dreams of being in the NBA. The dreams and goals Clark had would not have been possible if he had refused to put his trust in others. You can not do everything on your own.
Trust is an important part of everyone’s life. Trust helps us to create and maintain relationships, helps us to live a happy life, and helps us to succeed in life. The concept of trust shows up in everyone’s life at some point. We must all decide on who and what we will put our trust in. We will all meet people who are worthy of our trust and we will also meet people who are not. These decisions of who to trust are up to us. It is important to not be afraid of trust and it is important to understand the impact trust has in your life. Put your trust in those you are confident in and who you deem worthy of your trust.
