The Bureau of Investigation (BOI), United States bureau of investigation, and Division of investigation (DOI) are all the different names which were given to the FBI before the name was permanently changed to The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In this paper I am going to be mainly focusing in on some of the most asked questions and greatest concerns citizens who are not apart of the government agency have. The government agency celebrates their 100th year anniversary this year in 2018. With being relevant and existing for one hundred long years now just what sort of secrets do the FBI have in the shadows that they are not letting the outside world know of? What have they accomplished? Have they ever done something that was NOT for the good of the country and the people? What are their involvements with foreign affairs? Why was the FBI created? What were the founders scared of why they started the bureau? All of these are questions that I will be attempting to answer in the following paragraphs.
The FBI is an extremely secretive organization that sparks questions internationally there is said to be secret documents hidden from society… what are they really hiding? The bureau holds files that contain a variety of documents and items. Some being FBI agent reports, teletype messages, prosecutive summaries, accounts of interviews and physical surveillance, lab reports, informant reports, photographs, newspaper clippings and other public record materials. The FBI has different offices and files for several kinds of documents and other materials that they have in their archives. The latter include records in special file rooms, personnel and budget records, FBI National Academy records, public inquiries, automated and audiovisual materials, and sensitive/confidential materials that have been maintained by agents. One of the most famous documents that the FBI holds its content secret is that of Martin Luther King jr. In some of the largest offices of the bureau some discovered files have to do with Japanese-Americans and Japanese nationals in the United States during World War II, the Kennedy assassination, and machine readable racketeer profile
Just like everybody else the FBI has their own responsibilities and have taken action based on these responsibilities, but just what has the bureau done and why? During the 1950’s in the midst of the Cold War there were events such as the consolidation of Communism in Eastern Europe, the Communist takeover of China, and the detonation of atomic weapons by the Soviet Union. This caught the attention of numerous Americans especially that of Senator Joseph McArthy and the House of Un-American activity committee. These individuals catalyzed a movement to search and remove all communists in the country by explaining the seriousness of communism. He used the fear that was ignited by the European and Asian countries to carry out this movement. The responsible leaders of our nation called for the FBI to handle this domestic problem.
The bureau has a long history and was created over a century ago, but why? What is their history? What was their original purpose for our country? Who created the FBI? What have they done throughout their history? The Bureau of investigation was the original name of the FBI. It was created in 1908 by attorney general Bonaparte, with the help of other secret service members. The agency is and was used for domestic and national security. During the civil rights era the FBI played a huge role in it, a lot of the torturing and bad treatment to African Americans were done by the bureau. In its early years the bureau’s tasks were visiting and making surveys of the houses of prostitution in preparation for enforcing the “White Slave Traffic Act,”. The FBI truly became known and hindered with their abilities in 1972 after Hoover’s death, the watergate scandal and its weakened political position. Through the years the FBI has been criticized and brought into the light on several occasions. Where mainly has been given negative feedback. They’ve been viewed as a threat to civil liberties, an agency who keeps many important secrets/documents from society and the government.
Our country has been in multiple wars some more tragic than others we prevailed in all but was it with the assistance with the FBI? Maybe. If they helped our country in war what did they do to do it? In 1939 while the war was growing in Europe the U.S. was receiving large amounts of criticism for their involvement in the war. To quiet the critics, the president mobilized his government forces in an effort to change the opinion and outlook people have for them. Among those who secretly aided the administration was the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). While traditionally the FBI focused on antiradical activity, during this period foreign policy issues provided the impetus for extensive Bureau monitoring of prominent White House foreign policy critics. The Bureau had revealed that in their early years the FBI was involved in foreign affairs with the country. They also played a role in the Great debate, and the Red Scare during the Cold War.
All in all the Bureau is sort of the kind of agency we all believed it to be. A very strong and influential set of people with power who are all involved with foreign as well as domestic affairs. The Federal Bureau of Investigation play a huge role in our nations history and it will also in the near and distant future. Sadly I fell short and was unable to uncover all the questions and concerns of those of the common people but in the process of doing so I successfully did bring to light many of the agencies involvements, documents, knowledge and responsibilities. The FBI is only one of the three most known and influential agencies the United States has to offer. Just like the other two government agencies the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National security agency (NSA) the FBI has its secrets which in some cases are better kept as just that… secrets.
