In his later stages of life, he manifested symptoms of megalomania and was paranoid. He was a great man in human context but was nowhere close to God. From his story it evident that greatness in people is not subject to physical strength but the power of a character. In reference to the book of Mark chapter eight verse thirty-five Jesus expressed that if an individual wants to find life, there has to be a loss of it first. According to biblical teachings, the road to greatness demands humility and service which is selfless. In religious teachings in reference to Jesus, greatness is expressed in him washing the feet of his disciples and submission to die for humanity salvation. Considering Matthew chapter twenty verses twenty-five to twenty-seven the bible says “You know that the rulers of this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you, it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.”
In present world there are several people considered to be great, in technological world Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and others are considered to be great people. In reference to their success stories, there is the existence of similar characteristics. Most of them share the sentiment that that “practice makes perfect”. They attribute their greatness to utilizing of ten thousand hours of practice in order to master the level of expertise needed for success. They exhibit the power of positive thinking and they do not credit their achievements to luck but constantly improving their present state to achieve their goals.
In the field of science, individuals such as Newton and Faraday also acknowledge the fact that they spent most of their time acquiring new knowledge to improve their skills. This eventually led to a breakthrough in discoveries and scientific progress that earned their names spaces in books of history as great people. The research indicates that the master of golf “Tiger Woods” started playing golf from an early age and was persistent and committed to excellence in the game which eventually enabled him to be best of the best. The research also refers to Buffet who is well known for his disciple and spent quality time to study financial management that led to his greatness. Scientific research shows that excellent experts that exist across the field such as Michael J. Howe, John A. Sluboda, and Jane W. Davidson illustrate talent is not associated with personality traits, intelligence, and motivation which highly transform individuals into great people.
The common characteristics in great people as seen in several types of research conducted across the world which was referred to in the development of this paper shows that great people do not view success as a fact of luck but hard work, passion, and dedication. Great people toy with several ideas before identifying the one to give them break through . They turn their challenges around and transform defects into assets.
