Brazil
The country I will be talking about is Brazil. I chose Brazil because I didn’t know it was a country and it’s interesting. Brazil has a population of 210,867,95 people. It is located in along the eastern coast of South America. The Guiana Highlands are the largest feature in Brazil. The temperatures in Brazil rarely drop below 20°C (68°F). The climate changes from hot and dry then to humid and sticky. Brazil’s most common natural disaster is flooding! In January of 2011, was the biggest flood in Brazil’s history. Brazil also has rare animals including buffy-headed marmoset, a giant otter, a golden headed lion tamarin, a golden lion tamarin, a maned sloth, a marsh rice rat, and a southern muriqui. All of those animals are also extinct! Most of the people in Brazil believe in Roman Catholicism. Brazil has the largest number of Catholics in the world! Brazil's official language is Portuguese. Brazil is a very diverse country by having Indians, Africans, and Portuguese. Brazil's most popular sport is football because they have won the FIFA World Cup five times! They also play Capoeira, which is a form of martial arts that combines music and dancing. This sport became known in the sixteenth century. Brazilians also have other sports like footvolley, which is volleyball and football/soccer combined, they also have tennis, basketball, motorsport, volleyball, rugby, and soccer. Brazil's favorite sport is soccer. The game is played in parks, playgrounds and in stadiums. Brazilians who live in the cites have a much wider choice of food than people who live in the country. Hamburgers, cola beverages, and wheat bread have increased popularity in Brazil. The wealthy people of Brazil have a diet of only meat. In the rural areas, the foods are cassava, beans, manioc, and rice. Brazil's most common dish is Feijoada, which contains black beans, dried beef, and pork. There are more poor people than wealthy but Brazil isn't a wealthy country. The president of Brazil is Michel Temer. Brazil gained independence on September 7, 1822. They went to war with Germany on August 22, 1942, but there were no actions. They also joined World War 2. Brazil was part of Portugal before they gained their independence. Dom Pedro was the president at the time and he had just come home from a trip and had received letters saying that he should let Brazil free from Portugal. He let Brazil free by riding a horse with his sword in the air and yelled “Independence or Death”, that is how the moment of independence was pictured! Brazil has allies like Russia, India, and China. Brazil is known to have a thriving agriculture industry. They also have an industrial sector, which makes automobiles, aircrafts, computers and more. Brazil also has a good baking industry and they are the world’s leading producers of hydroelectric power. Brazil’s working hours are normally 8am-6pm and are Monday-Friday, with an unpaid break. Workers are only supposed to work 40 hours per week, any more hours will be against the law. Brazil has a lot of natural resources including: bauxite, which is a type of clay rock, gold, iron ore, manganese, which is a type of chemical element with a atomic number which is 25 and many more. Brazil’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth rate has changed 0.1 percent of a quarter in the last three months of 2017. Brazil’s GNP (Gross National Product) has increased to 167,000,0 in January of 2018. The top exports of Brazil are soybeans, raw sugar, iron ore, crude petroleum, and sulfate chemical woodpulp. The top imports of Brazil are vehicle parts, telephones, packaged medicaments, and refined petroleum. The Brazilian fiscal year begins Jan.1 and ends Dec.31. Brazilians are taxed up to a maximum of 27.5%. If you are a citizen of Brazil you won’t have to worry about health care because in 1988 they passed a law that every citizen was provided with health care. You have to have a pension visa in order to retire. To qualify for the visa you must be at least 60 of age. You must pay 2,000 a month. The visa last for nine years but can be renewed at the Federal office.
