Petroleum is a fossil fuel that is formed by the remains of ancient marine organism, it is now commonly found in big reservoirs where sea beds were located, and is usually a brown or black color but many do not know that it can also be yellow, red, tan, or a green color. When, Petroleum is burned it releases high levels of Carbon Dioxide; a greenhouse gas, which then results in air pollution. When oil is getting extracted they use drill rigs and wells that reach to the pocket of the oil bed, where the oil is then more likely to fill the rock layer and spread through the open area and lead to oceans, lakes, or rivers which is a huge risk and which shows that petroleum is negative to the environment because it pollutes the air and is negative to the marine life because of how it is extracted and drilled out, and can enter the water and lead to several animals dying or cause congenital issues to fish or other animals that come in contact with it. Although Petroleum has many negatives to it, it is used often for many things, but few people realize the harm it is doing to our environment. It is in items that seem harmless such as gas for our cars, heating oil we use to provide out homes with the necessary heating, and in grease which is needed in automobile repair, train tracks, and machinery upkeep.
On October 2015, The U.S. became the world’s third-largest producer of crude oil. While The U.S. is one of the top producing countries for Petroleum, it’s need for Petroleum outweighs it the amount they can produce therefore, a majority of our oil is imported from foreign countries. Petroleum is historically significant in some ways. Petroleum was discovered by “Colonel” Edwin Drake about 150 years ago it was found 6 ½ near Titusville, Pennsylvania which also is the birthplace of America’s petroleum industry. This history connects to politics because oil rich states have the tendency to instigate international conflicts, This term is called “Petro-aggression” The Anglo-American petroleum agreements of 1944 was to have more restrictions internationally. Petroleum plays a big role socially.
Petroleum does also offer job opportunities for people to work at oil for people to work at oil companies, or to extract the oil. Most of packaging have petroleum in it, we use it in many things such as gas for cars and transportation as oil for fixing cars and in machines, but it also affects us negatively health wise. Some job opportunities are drilling and rig, production of products with petroleum, and maintenance etc. One in specific is oil rigging, oil rigging is There are many opportunities that come with working with petroleum, so it helps but it affects our health negatively. It is important because it is how people make money, oil rig workers make nearly $100,000 a year so it gives a great amount of income. Not only does petroleum benefit socially with jobs it benefits economically.
Petroleum can affect government policies in such ways like the amount of control or how superior a government is. According to an editorial piece by Oil Price the resource is a primary factor in the process of asserting and maintaining dominance and power, it lubricates the merchants of both national and international politics. In other words, the more oil a nation has, the more power they have since it is a resource that is essential. This is important to the government because everyone for more power and dominance, the more alliances the better. Petroleum is related to many things and has a big impact on many things, especially economic.
Petroleum has a big impact on the economy. It is used for making many products and used for powering in 31 states. An article by National Geographic called “Petroleum” says, “the states that produce the most petroleum are Texas, Alaska, California, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.” but majority of petroleum is imported from “Canada followed by Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Venezuela, and Nigeria.” My evidence shows precisely how many states produce petroleum and where our petroleum comes from, it shows the ties between the different countries because of petroleum. Trading and partnerships result in more or less money for the economy.
The effects are overall positive in certain aspect and negative in a certain aspect. Socially petroleum provides multiple job opportunities in the petroleum industry which is a positive, Politically it gives the government an upper-hand if a country has a good supply of oil to trade. Economically, countries make a large amount of money when they transport the resource and products make from petroleum. It is critical to understand the complex impacts of petroleum because you can see how certain things that we use impact us and the world around us. Despite the negative impacts that petroleum has it has become an important resource that is needed for many things that we all use. Keep in mind the next time you use something with petroleum how you are impacting the world and how you can make it better.
