EIGHTH GRADE SCIENCE PROJECT: Global Warming
Hey this is nihar. How ya doin? Good? Good.
Seriously bruh?
Criterion A:
We picked this topic because of our concern for worldwide environmental issues. Global warming, also referred to as climate change, is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate system, and its related effects. Scientific evidence show that the climate system is warming. Many of the, changes since the 1950s are unprecedented in the temperature record, which extends back to the mid-nineteenth century and since then there has been a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. It is caused by increased levels carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and other pollutants. Over the past 50 years, the average global temperature has increased at the fasted rate in history. The burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the largest polluter, emitting about two billion tons of carbon dioxide every year. The country's second largest source is transportation. Cars along with planes and trains generate around 1.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year. The effects of global warming have been very clear in the recent years because of increasing sources of global warming. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it has been recorded that there were 150 glaciers located in the Montana’s Glacier National Park however because of increasing effect of global warming, only 25 glaciers are left. Huge level climate changes are making hurricanes more dangerous and powerful. Natural storms are getting so strong by taking energy from temperature difference (of cold upper atmosphere and warm Tropical Ocean). Year 2012 has been recorded as hottest year since 1895 and year 2013 together with 2003 as the warmest year since 1880.
Global warming causes lot of climate changes in the atmosphere such as increasing summer season, decreasing winter season, increasing temperature, changes in air circulation
This problem affects everyone in this world. The increase in our earth’s temperature and the pollution of our air and water affects everyone and is a very imminent problem. Some people believe that global warming does not exist but plenty of evidence points the fact that are temperatures are rising at unprecedented rates. According to a massive news report from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which sorts through thousands of details and reports, shows that rising temperatures are messing with our farms, seas, and coastlines. It is also leading towards crop failures, water shortages, and deadly heat waves. The rising temperatures are melting glaciers and ice caps, leading to rising sea levels and possible flooding of coastlines. In some parts of the world, like the Kenyan Highlands, global warming is leading to an increase in malaria.
Most people think that global warming is an immediate crisis and should be dealt with but they do not do it themselves. A small percentage of people believe because they have a distrust of science and believe that there is a lack of evidence. However, scientists disagree. The level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is at the highest point in recorded history
In addition, the oceans have absorbed a lot of this heat with the top seven hundred meters of the ocean warming 0.302 degrees. The ice sheets have decreased in mass and lost around 150 to 250 cubic kilometers from 2002 to 2006. One aspect of global warming is carbon dioxide emissions and carbon is one of the main elements on the periodic table. Global warming is a worldwide problem that doesn't affect one country specifically but they do affect different countries on different levels. For example China and the US are some of the worlds largest carbon dioxide emitters therefore leading to a bigger impact on global warming. Different countries depending on their financial situations have different levels of carbon emissions. For example, countries such as the US and China are trying to lower their carbon emissions while developing countries are allowed to use more to try and improve their financial situation. Many of the different issues of global warming relate to the different chemistry aspects of chemistry that we learned throughout the year. Our goal is to teach elementary school students about some the dangers of global warming and possibly start a gofundme to raise the money for a campaign that supports global warming.
Criterion B: PLANNING
Our goal is to teach a elementary school science class about global warming and then start a go fund me page and donate to organizations set upon increasing the quality of air and making our world cleaner. We want to answer questions such as——How we will help reduce greenhouse gases? Who we will send our money to? What are the effects of global warming? What will happen in future if we don’t stop global warming? We will plan our investigation by using the money from our gofundme to give to an organization which helps global warming. Many awareness programmes and programmes to reduce global warming have been run and implemented by the government agencies, business leaders, private sectors, NGOs, etc. Some of the damages through global warming cannot be returned by the solution (like melting of ice caps). However, we should not get back and try everyone’s best to reduce the effects of global warming by reducing the human causes of global warming. We should try to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere and adopt some climate changes which are already happening for years. Instead of using electrical energy we should try using clean energy or energy produced by solar system, wind and geothermal. Reducing the level of coal and oil burning, use of transportation means, use of electrical devices, etc may reduce the global warming to a great level. We will also teach elementary school students about the effects of global warming and how they can help. We think that if we start with little kids, they will start to implement it earlier and this will help reduce greenhouse gases. We believe that getting a lot of people to donate for our gofundme page will be an obstacle for us. We can get our word out the social media and other means of communication about our gofundme campaign then we can achieve our campaign goal of $200.
Criterion C:
For our project, we are gonna do an infographic.
Our infographic will include the effects of global warming. We will also include how it is related to other countries and how we will help reduce it. The most important information to include in our infographic is the effects of global warming that will continue to happen if we don’t stop this problem. In addition, we need to talk about the solutions to the problem and how we can begin to bring about this change in order to reduce our carbon emissions. In our project,we will use persuasive words and tone to nudge our audience in donating money to our gofundme. Since this money will go to an organization which helps the cause of global warming, this will help our topic. In addition, teaching kids in elementary school about the global warming issue will make them more aware of their energy consumption and they need different uses of energy that goes on in this household.
