There are a lot of factors that have to be looked at to understand the meaning behind religion, what the religion wishes to accomplish, the social life, and their sacred place. Even though we are not fully aware of the existence of a higher power or powers that each religion believes in, we have been brought up to believe that there something that motivates, brings people together, and guides us through life, and that will forever be a part of an individual and it will always be a way of living. Religion can help us make sense of our world, provide motivation, and bind us together and is something that cannot easily be defined.
There are many people in this world that believe they understand what makes up a definition for what religion is and why it was formed, but in all reality, they would be wrong. Some believe that their beliefs are a part of making up a religion but by thinking that it would be biased because everyone’s beliefs differ based off themselves. Then some people believe religion is based off its history and why they started but because of thinking about its history the viewpoint can be distorted by peoples impacts and mistakes which then lead to, once again another biased viewpoint on the true definition. And some people have even viewed religion as a traditional route for mental health practices, to help people find happiness in life. So, with all that in mind it poses the question on what exactly is the definition of religion? And although the religions differ in one way or another, there are many similarities that show and prove that there is a deeper meaning behind what a religion is.
The huge problem that arises when trying to define religion is how people view religion in today’s time. Although there are many religions that have been formed within the past few thousand years, those religions are not used to truly define what a religion is compared to the primal religions that have been around for millions of years. The true meaning and morality of religion has been lost in all the diverse new religions of today. The historical religions have romanticized the way of religion and have abandoned some of, if not most of the important meaning and purpose that makes up what a religion truly is. Primal religions are what shaped how a religion should be taught and how a religion should be viewed. Primal religions all have rituals, practices, desires, and a sacred place that belongs to their origin and their way of living. They all have stages of life that each member goes through and paths to follow to learn and grow from in hoping to one day reach infinite enlightenment with their desires.
Religions were brought about with their own viewpoint on what exactly life should be like economically and socially, and although each religion have goals that may be different they all still have a really identical end goal. Each religion can be looked at as putting all their trust, faith, and beliefs into their actions of everyday life and their accomplishments. Every religion practices a certain ritual and have desires that will be met as a person is growing up and experiencing life. It is not just about the beliefs or practice of something, rather the purpose and meaning of the religion is to achieve the goals that the people have for themselves to be able to feel accomplished in life and that they have reached the goals of being united with their higher power or powers, whatever that may be. Religion is also the way of gaining personal contact and fulfillment with their higher powers. Although there are different goals for each religion, at the end of it all religion is the ability to guide a person through life, and to have the ability to feel accomplished with everything they have done by the time they die. Religion shows a group of people that there is purpose in life and if they follow and reach all their paths then they will reach their end goal of enlightenment and happiness in their life. Religion guides people on their journey through life in hopes that it will strengthen them, be enlightening, and help us be forgiven for any wrong doings, so that we can one day be united with the higher power that has influenced their reason to live. Religion can be looked at just like parents, who are there to guide their children through life while growing up and once they are ready to go out in the world on their own they will be prepared and ready for whatever lays ahead of them.
To summarize, the true meaning, concept and definition of religion can sometime be hard to understand and believe especially since there are so many viewpoints and perspectives on it, but all the religions that are around were brought up in a sacred place that have rituals and practices that helped to shape what they really are, and within those practices there are three main goals. And even though the real meaning behind religion can sometime be lost today, there will always be these three main goals that an individual must reach to truly understand religion. They wish to fulfill their desires throughout life and to feel accomplished, find a resolution to their wrongful doings and guidance through their tough times, and finally to reach personal contact with their higher power. Once all three of goals have been meet then the true meaning of religion is met, and that is infinite enlightenment, or to feel enlightened in the time that they are living and in the time of death.
