, dI have heard a lot about Dubai Museum finally the opportunity came to visit it with my friends in college, it was decided to go on a field trip to the museum to learn about the history of Dubai and the life in the past and it was a very pleasantly surprise to me .
Students gathered at the university and we boarded the bus to go to Dubai and I feel great enthusiasm and when we arrived there we saw some visitors and we found the tour guide, who agreed with him waiting for us, and from the first moment after welcoming us taking explain to us the history of the museum since its inception and he told us that the museum is one of the attractions that top the list of things to see in Dubai.He told us that a trip to city’s major historical monument ‘ Dubai Museum will leave you spellbound, and know how Dubai has chang from ordinary fishing village to become a long way from an ordinary fishing village to an internationally recognized trade and tourism purpose
He starts talking about the history of the museum by saying Dubai Museum is the main museum in Dubai, It is located in the Al Fahidi built in 1787 about 200 years ago and it is one of the fine presentation of ancient desert forts in the Middle East still standing until now and the oldest of its kind in the emirate.
Dubai Fort located at the south of Dubai Creek, at the Al Souk Al Kabir area which assemble with dynamic trade. It becomes the residence of the ruling family. It was fort of defense, because it was on the border of Dubai at the time. This fort was built in 1787 as a fence to protect the area from the attacks of sea pirates and neighboring tribes. It served as a garrison and a prison, before it was converted into a museum in 1971 by Sheikh Rashid Al Makthoum. Later on, this fort turned into an armory for artillery as well as weapons.
It was also used as a prison for the outlaws. This fort was renovated during the reign of the late Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum. It was opened in 1971 to be an official museum that show the history of Dubai and its original legacy. When entering, we saw the fort and there is a path to the galleries, which show the general culture of the area, especially in the 1800. It contains local antiquities and artifacts from African and Asian countries' transaction with Dubai. It also includes various dioramas display life in the emirate before the coming of oil in addition to artifacts from recent discoveries which date back to 3000 BC
Dubai museum was built in several phases. The oldest tower was built in 1787 and they said that it is the oldest building in Dubai that still until today. In the corner stands a traditional summer house called Arish. The Arish is made entirely from weaved palm fronds. It comprises seating and sleeping areas and it has an old kitchen, filled with household old furnishings and objects used by the locals in the past. The Arish features the distinct wind tower design, used for air conditioning in the pre-electricity days
The street leads to a model mosque, and family house then turns to the right where it is the illustration of desert life. An old farm it Contains, a camel, wild animals, and a Bedouin tent full of jewelry, trinkets , and objects from the daily old life of Bedouins. The walls tell us about their knowledge of the stars and how they used it to guide their actions. Next , there is the largest diorama which is all about the sea life, with a huge view of the building of a dhow, with scenes of marine life detailing local species, in addition to a collection of seafaring tools. the Last diorama features an archaeological location in Al Qusais the area that goes back to 3000 BC.
There was tombs, an excavated skeleton, and an archaeologist. And there was all the way sounds, visual effects, and electronic instructor accompany the dioramas Cabinets full of archaeological finds from Al Qusais site line the walls next to the excavation view. Finally, the winding track leads us to a gallery displaying finds from other sites and historical eras, like the Umayyad location at Jumeirah.
