What is culture? Culture is the arts and other manifestation of human intellectual achievement regarded collectivity it is the common denominator that makes the actions of the individuals understandable to a particular group. Culture is vital for the perseverance of a society and it has its own identity distinguished from others. Culture is not rooted into a person from birth, but it is learned from wherever they are from. Every society has a different culture were the people share a specific language, belief, behavior and many more other things that one society may find odd.

Food is probably the most important element of Mexican culture. Much of the daily routine and tradition in Mexico revolves around the ritual of preparing and eating food. Mexican food is rich in color and flavor, the richness in of their cuisine comes from their concern for the sensory experience of eating. It is often said that cuisine is culture, and to understand the development of Mexican cuisine it is important to know the history of Mexico. To me and my family Mexican food is very important for many reasons, there are many exquisite and delicious plates, the aroma the food leaves while cooking is the best. In my house we have different plates for different occasions for example for Christmas we tend to make tamales de pollo. What are tamales you may ask? Tamales are a traditional Mesoamerican dish made of masa or dough which can either be steamed in corn husk or banana leaf and can be made of pollo verde or pollo rojo. For Thanksgiving we make pan con pollo which is a traditional chicken sandwich. There are so many different dishes that it’ll be hard to name them all, some of my favorite plates are camarones en aguachiles, enchiladas, mole, gorditas and we definetly can’t forget about los tacos de pollo. Now on to dessert there are all type of desserts from gelatin to rice pudding to paletas de agua but my favorite dessert is flan which is a baked dish consisting of an opened topped pastry case with a savory of sweet filling.

Music is home to some of the most diverse music in the word, the music of Mexico is very diverse and features a wide range of genres. Norteno is a genre of Mexican music and its most characteristic instruments are the accordion and the baja sexto. Banda is a style of Mexican music and the musical ensemble in which wind and string instruments, mostly of brass and precision are performed. Banda’s play a variety of songs as well as Rancheras, Corridos, Cumbias and Baladas. Another genre is Tamborazo, you can say it’s almost the same as Banda but the difference is that it mostly consists of using the drum. Tamborazo is originated in Jerez in the state of Zacatecas. My Favorite type of Mexican music is Banda Sinaloense, why? Because the rhythm of it just gets me moving and it hypes me up as well as it hypes up everyone else that surrounds me.

When people think about the Mexican clothing they immediately think of women in flowing skirts with flower designs and men in sombreros and don’t get me wrong that is the traditional Mexican clothing. Mexico literally makes the most beautiful clothing ever! The most popular and well known piece of clothing in Mexico for women is the huipil quechquemitl rebozo. The Huipil is a sleeveless tunic made from cotton or wool and is worn with a skirt.  For men the most popular known piece is the charro suit, baja jacket the poncho and the cantinflas suit . The embroidered flowery blouses are the best, they have so many designs not like the typical diamonds and whatsoever but the flowers is what makes them stand out of course what makes them unique.

To me my culture is the best, I love being Mexican and I wouldn’t trade it for nothing in the world. There are so much more things that I could talk about I can go on and on about how growing up in a Mexican household has been the best thing. I love everything about Mexico from the dances to music to food to the clothing everything about Mexico is what truly defines who I really am.
