Food insecurity is affecting an incredible amount of people living in the Central African Republic and all over the world. As a matter of fact, the US department of agriculture defines food insecurity as a state in which “consistent access to adequate food is limited by lack of money and other resources at times during the year.” Approximately 76% of the CAR’s 4.7 million people are living in poverty, which has resulted in them suffering from food insecurity. Also, nearly 21% of Africa is suffering because of food insecurity and undernourishment. In fact, food insecurity is not the same as hunger because of the effects. Food insecurity is happening in Kenya, India, Nepal, Liberia, the Philippines, and the Central African Republic. According to a previous president, President Jimmy Carter, “We know that a peaceful world cannot long exist, one-third rich and two-thirds hungry.” Overall, food insecurity is affecting many people in the Central African Republic and all over the world.

Consequently, food production and household purchasing power has weakened, leading to many people suffering from food insecurity. 45% of the CAR (2 million people) are food insecure. Around 40% of children between six months and five years are stunted in their growth because of lack of nutrients in their diet. The life expectancy of people living in the CAR is 51.5 years. The literacy rate in the Central African Republic is very low compared to other countries, at only 36.8%. All things considered, you can witness many of the effects of poverty food insecurity in the Central African Republic.

One of the many causes of food insecurity that is occurring is overeating, which has led to obesity. In fact, people who are dealing with food insecurity suffer by overeating if they are given an abundance of food. “People overeat in an attempt by the body to recoup the missing calories,” according to Food Justice. Food insecurity causes an increase in children’s and adult’s Body Mass Index (BMI) which is an indicator of overweight and obesity. While people try to recoup their missing calories, they end up overeating and leading to obesity. People can only afford cheap food, such as fast food, and not healthy, nutritious food. Since people cannot buy nutritious food, they eat cheap, unhealthy food and quickly gain weight. Above all, those were some of the effects of food insecurity and overeating in the CAR.

Rise Against Hunger

One Solution to food insecurity is Rise Against Hunger (RAH), an organization that packages meals for people suffering from food insecurity in countries around the world. In 1998, RAH was founded by Ray Buchanan. The organizations and his goal was, and still is, to end world hunger “by providing food and life-changing aid to the worlds most vulnerable and creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources,” according to RAH. Their current headquarters are in Raleigh, North Carolina. RAH is working right now to bring meals to those who need it the most and they plan to end hunger by 2030. They want to end hunger because there are 815 million people that are impacted by hunger and need help. As RAH continues to package and send out meals, more people around the world don’t have to go to bed hungry. If RAH continues to get the support of donations from people, the closer everyone can be towards a hunger-free world.
As a matter of fact, RAH can be funded by any group of people who want to pack meals. RAH’s meal packaging program lets volunteers package high protein, dehydrated, and highly nutritious meals. According to RAH, “ The program was created to give dedicated individuals and organizations — from businesses to civic clubs — the opportunity to participate in a hands-on international hunger relief program and to become educated, engaged advocates for the world’s hungry. The events also give volunteers hands-on experience in leadership development, team-building, relationship-building, creative problem-solving, and goal-setting and achievement.” These meals get used in school feeding programs for orphanages, schools, and in crisis situations in developing countries all around the world. Each dehydrated meal is comprised of rice, vegetables, soy, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals. RAH will have the packaged meals shipped out to many third-world coutnries. These meals are then distributed to those who need it the most.

Furthermore, RAH has worked in developing countries across the globe, such as in Kenya, India, Nepal, Liberia, the Philippines, and in the CAR. RAH has worked, and is working now, because of all of the volunteers who donate money to this organization. These people help to package thousands of meals that get shipped out to RAH’s partners in all of the countries that RAH is helping. According to RAH, “Those partners are best able to address the causes and effects of hunger based on their local presence and expertise. Through our thorough monitoring and evaluation process, we ensure the meals distributed by those partners are used as a tool to change lives by promoting education, improving students’ health and nutrition, addressing gender inequalities, stimulating economic growth and fighting child labor.” Another thing that RAH helps third-world countries with is aid in crises, natural and man-made. RAH strives to ensure all aid is “efficiently and effectively deployed to and received by communities when it is needed most,” according to Rise Against Hunger. Without a doubt, Rise Against Hunger has made an incredible impact on those in need and they have saved so many lives all around the world.

World Food Programme

The World Food Programme is an organization that delivers food assistance in emergencies and is working with communities to build resilience and improve nutrition. It was created to one day end hunger, acheive food security, and promote sustainable agriculture. Through the World Food Programme, 82 countries with 91.4 million people are assisted each year with food and the right nutrition. In 1961, World Food Programme is established and in 1962, earthquakes strike in northern Iran and WFP send them 1,500 metric tons of wheat, 270 tons of sugar, and 27 tons of tea to support all the victims. WFP’s head quarters are in Rome, Italy and they are at work right now in the CAR and 81 other countries around the world. WFP is doing this because they plan to, like RAH, end food insecurity and hunger by 2030.

Currently, World Food Programme has been helping reduce the amount of hunger with their humanitarian food assistance, in which they provide food that is very nutritious, to those in urgent need. Meanwhile, their complementary programs build the resilience of communities and address the core causes of hunger. They do this so that they don’t have to continuously save the same people every year and can focus their attention on stopping the main causes of hunger. World Food Programme is a nonprofit organization that is run on donations from people who want to help others that are in need. People can donate from under $25,000 to over 1 million dollars to World Food Programme. These donations go towards providing meals for the people living in third-world countries.

Undoubtedly, World Food Programme’s food assistance in the Central African Republic has helped many people and reduced the amount of hunger all over the world. World Food Programme has been successful in saving the lives of so many people who live in poverty and live with food insecurity every day. WFP has been successful also because they have had many donations from people to support the individuals, that they send help to, in many third-world countries. Overall, the World Food Programme has made a large, lasting impact on the world hunger and they continue to progress in reducing hunger and food insecurity.

Successful Solution to Food Insecurity

Food insecurity is a global problem that food organizations such as Rise Against Hunger (RAH) are working to abolish by brining nutritious food, vitamins, and minerals to those who need it the most. Rise Against Hunger sends packaged meals to Kenya, India, Nepal, Liberia, the Philippines, and the Central African Republic (CAR). Any adults who are willing to donate money and want to package meals to be sent around the world should care about food insecurity and try to end it. Parents can help the nearly 21% of Africa, and other third-world countries around the world, finally defeat food insecurity with the Rise Against Hunger food packaging organization. One reason there is against hunger could and food insecurity is that they provide nutritious meals to those who are suffering from food insecurity. RAH provides dehydrated meals that are comprised of rice, vegetables, soy, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals to those who are suffering. According to Rise Against Hunger’s mission, “We’d like to invite you to take action, donate, and join our growing movement to end hunger worldwide by 2030.” In addition, RAH helps many countries around the world receive the food they need through many different people who donated for the cause. Rise Against Hunger supports 74 countries around the world by sending meals and aid to them. Volunteers, partnering organizations, faith groups, schools, and corporations have all donated and helped build on the movement end global hunger. Overall, Rise Against Hunger has provided dehydrated, nutritious meals to 74 countries since it first began and is hoping to end hunger by 2030. RAH has been given donations from volunteers, partnering organizations, faith groups, and corporations. This solution is helping people all over the world who are suffering from food insecurity and is helping abolish hunger worldwide.

While it is true that Rise Against hunger since nutritious meals and life-saving aid to those in need, some might say that WFP is a better organization because they send food and support more countries than RAH. WFP has sent food to 82 million people in 82 countries around the globe. WFP also runs entirely on donations from people who want to help and hunger. The more important point to remember is that rise against hunger allows people and their communities to be more hands-on with packaging meals for the countries that RAH is serving. Although WFP has the same goals as RAH, RAH allows everyone to be more involved by packaging the meals and RAH helps the news about food insecurity spread and get more people involved through their meal packaging events. Alternatively, the World Food Programme has provided food assistance to more countries than RAH, helping people to believe WFD is a better solution to end hunger and food insecurity. WFP has a mission to end world hunger and food insecurity by 2030. Naturally, WFP is always ready to help people suffering from food insecurity or hunger through donations from generous people. “WFP does whatever it takes to be there for families across the globe, whether it’s responding in times of need or building sustainable communities,” according to WFP‘s website. WFP says on the website that any one person donation could be the difference between a child going to bed hungry or eating a nutritious meal.” Truly, world food program has provided meals to so many people in 82 countries around the globe and they’re committed to getting people the nutrition they need so they don’t go to bed hungry. This solution is feeding so many people suffering from food insecurity and is working to end world hunger by 2030.

Food insecurity is a problem all around the world that rise against hunger and other organizations are working to bring to an end. These such organizations send meals to countries around the globe and help so many people. People willing to give money to this cause should care about food and security and try to finally defeated it. As a matter of fact, if we do not end food insecurity, then we place millions of people and their families in danger of starving. The personal story of Michael, a 16 year old from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, exposes the seriousness of food insecurity. Michael was born into poor economic conditions and his mother died when he was a child, leaving him in the care of one of her friends, and she too tragically passed away soon. When her family was unable to care for Michael, he was left by himself on the streets. After years of working odd jobs, Michael crossed the border into Zambia, hoping to go back to school and have a better life. Soon, Michael is found by immigration and taken to child services, where he chose to live and go to school. Michael eat RAH meals every day and is taking classes in fifth grade, even though he’s older than everyone in his class. Since the amount of people suffering from food insecurity in the CAR and around the world is so high, is it imperative that parents, who are willing to try to bring hunger to an end, donate to our age to package and send food to those who need it the most and save many lives. Unquestionably, food packaging organizations, such as Rise Against Hunger, are key to solving the problem of food insecurity. Rise Against Hunger is an effective and strong way to save people around the world and bring food insecurity to an end in years to come.
