Contributors to wellness
The health of the people is really the foundation upon which all their happiness and all their powers as a state depend on (Duran, 2009). There are other dimensions as well that are essential to health and wellness. There are four dimensions to wellness namely physical, social, intellectual and environmental health. Wellness is much more than merely physical health, exercise or nutrition. It is the full integration of states of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Each of these four dimensions act and interact in a way that contributes to our own quality of life (Strout, 2012).
Physical dimension are contribute to the physical well-being of a person or individual including physical fitness, regular exercise and well balanced diet (Debouverie, 2008). Nowadays, most people recognize that participating in fitness program would improve their quality of life. It also sufficient lower the risk for disease and ensure better health. Physical wellness involves aspects of life that are necessary to keep our self in top condition. Optimal physical wellness is developed through the combination of beneficial physical activity or exercise and healthy eating habits. Elemental components of physical wellness include building muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular strength and endurance and flexibility (Dittrich, 2010).
Physical wellness is also concerned with developing personal responsibility for your own health care, such as caring for minor illnesses and knowing when professional medical attention is needed. Developing physical wellness empowers us to be able to monitor our own vital signs and understand our body’s warning signs (Dittrich, 2010). We need to understand and appreciate the relationship between sound nutrition and how our body performs. The physical benefits of looking good and feeling terrific most often lead to the psychological benefits of enhanced self-esteem, self-control, determination and a sense of direction (UCR, 2016).
Besides that, people who in good physical condition also should avoid harmful drugs and smoking as well as seek medical care and participate in activities that help prevent illness (Debouverie, 2008). Good physical fitness is characterized by good cardiorespiratory endurance, enhanced adequate muscle, flexibility and proper body composition. Therefore, the physically fit person will be able to carry out the ordinary and challenging demands of daily life safely and effectively (UCR, 2016).
Physical fitness is defined as the ability to meet the ordinary as well as the usual demands of daily life safely and effectively without being overly fatigued and still have energy left for leisure and recreational activities. Examples of physical fitness included with modified push-up, modified sit-up, sit-ups for abdominal muscles, push-ups for shoulders chest, arms, back lift for strengthening back, squads for thighs and calf raises (Cigna, 2016).
As conclusion, in order to achieve positive wellness, we must free from symptoms of disease such as pain whereby we should ask ourselves on our cholesterol level, blood pressure and sugar level, being active, in good spirits and feeling emotionally healthy. When all the dimensions to health and wellness are integrated and function together, one will achieve a high level of wellness or optimal health. That is why the four dimensions of wellness must also be in tune with one another in order to produce harmony (UCR, 2016).
Social wellness
Social wellness is known as one’s ability to interact with people around them as it involves good communication skills, having meaningful relationships, respecting yourself and others and creating a support system (Roscoe, 2009). Social wellness is the positive effect friends have on our mental and physical health. In quantitative terms it is a measure of our health based on the number of close, personal friends we have, on how often we spend time with them in person and how often we make new, lasting friendships. Without sources of air, water, food and physical activity we survive, but we do not live well and not as long as we might (Roscoe, 2009).
Besides that, lack of social wellness and health lead to psychological effects which lead to impact of loneliness as biological effects which is increased susceptibility to illness and higher cholesterol levels (Reading, 2009). Increased social wellness and health gives psychological effects which creates a good mood, enhanced self-esteem, handle stress better and biological effects is fewer cavities and fewer colds. Strategies for improving social wellness is by having healthy relationships, community involvement, and interdependency and accept diversity (Sundar, 2011).
Strategy for healthy relationship is by having a realistic expectation, communicate, be flexible, be reliable, keep life balanced, show warmth and affection, fight fair and lastly be yourself. In healthy relationship, communication and acceptance is importance as one should listen to one another. Try to avoid interruptions before another person finishes the sentences. Relationships change and evolve over time in relationship both need to be flexible. Besides that, both partners need to be reliable as when making plans try to be consistent and respectful of other people’s time as well as both need to follow through on promise to partner (Press, 2016).
Balanced lifestyles is another strategies in healthy relationship as people will try new opportunities on campus and meet other people. Balanced life is by developing own interests and relationship is not about dependence (Matuska, 2009). Fair fight is one of balance lifestyles. Fair fight might not have a perfect resolution both may agree and disagree on this issue. Past misunderstanding may hurt if being repeated and advisable to establish a win-win situation where it’s not about partner winning the argument but that the relationship is the winner (Matuska, 2009).
Community involvement also helps in social wellness either it is within their nearest environment or outside of their environment. Interdependency is another strategy for social wellness whereby interdependency refer to the willingness to help others and brave enough to seek for help. Lastly, able to accept diversity whereby, one’s become aware of biases and accept those around (Crawfoot, 2012).
As conclusion, social wellness is not as social networking but knows as social capital. Social capital is a political science term and is concerned mainly with the health of society from a civic perspective. In contrast social wellness focuses primarily on the emotional and physical health of the individual. Only trust based relationships, those we have with your close, personal friends, produce the positive effects on your health and happiness and result in an increased level of social wellness (Epstein, 2008).

Exercising regularly can have benefit on physical and mental fitness which is reduced stress. Just as brain and body fitness rely on both physical and emotional well-being, spiritual well-being also plays a role in your brain and body health (Roscoe, 2009).
Spiritual growth is encouraged and can help to strengthen brain, strengthen emotional well-being and therefore boost physical health too. Faith is can encourage strength, growth and life transformations that do great value to physical and emotional health.
