While, I was living on Cape Cod I worked for Stop and Shop as a part time cashier and at that
time I broke my shoulder and I decided to get my education through Ultimate Medical
Academy, which it is an online university that taught me about medical billing and coding.
Because of my career services advisor, she helped me to get my associates degree in medical
billing and coding and that she knew that it was a very good decision, which I agreed with her and she
helped me to get ready for my certification.
A year later, when I was working towards my associate’s degree, I knew that being a medical
biller and coder would be a good choice because I like to help people and I am a very hard worker and
getting things done on time, being punctual, working along with other staff, and a very hard worker they
asked me if I wanted a job there and I was very interested and which I accepted.
For the most part, my role as a medical biller and coder we had to learn about how Medicare,
Medicaid, and managed care is the key to manage costs and encourage innovation in health care
delivery, make sure that we go by the compliance of federal and state regulations that we make sure
that providers are following the rules.
There are about a number of roles of a medical biller and a coder that is required you need
hours of hands on putting in paper claims, electronic claims, excellent typing skills, knowing medical
terminology, and having good listening skills and also, make sure that you know how to work on a
computer.it examines in the manner of which it gives and focuses on administer, operated publicly
financed health and long-term care programs.
In the supply of, demand in the U.S, it ensures that the quality, using various classification of
both paper and electronic systems are billed correctly and using the right codes. Including, that you
need to know ICD-9, CPT, and HCPC’s codes and, also it requires that you need to pass the CPC exam so
employers will know if they can do the work as a medical biller and a coder.
Typically, the skills of a medical biller and a coder is that we have to make sure that we follow
the guidelines for filing claims in an appropriate manner, follow HIPPA regulations, and keeping patient
records in a confidential way so their information is not compromised.
Being a medical biller and a coder has made me realize that health care is very important and
when it comes to a typical source referral coordinator her qualifications are to make sure that claims are
in a timely manner so the claims would be processed. When it comes to health care reimbursement it is
a huge issue because we have to the continue a trade-off between the organization’s efficiency and
bottom-line profit versus the freedom of patients and providers.
As for liability issues, medical billers and coders are liable, or legally responsible, for the
confidential patient information with which they work. The increased use of laptops containing patient
medical information and the potential for theft create liability issues.
On the average of compensation of medical billers and coders starts about $14.50, and it
depends on the various job positions and the knowledge, the experience, educational qualifications and
to make sure medical billers and coders to be certified and licensed.
As for the trends in medical technology impacting this profession which offers a future in which
it is possible to deliver highly personalized care without necessarily having to do it in person, or even
with a doctor.
