                                             Roles of Adults Nursing 

 Am hoping to become an adults nursing in the nearest future, adults nurse, care for adult patients who suffering from a variety of health conditions, ranging from minor injuries and ailments, to acute and long- term illnesses and diseases. Adults nursing roles include:

¬ Writing patient care plan

¬ Implementing plans through task such as, preparing patients for operations, wound treatment and monitoring pulse, blood pressure and temperature.

¬ Observing and recording the condition of patients 

¬ Checking and administering drugs and injections 

¬ Setting up drips and blood transfusions 

¬ Responding quickly to emergencies 

¬ Planning discharge from hospital and liaising with GPs and social workers

¬ Communicating with and relieving the anxiety of patients and their relative

¬ Organising staff and prioritising busy workloads 

¬ Making ethical decisions related to consent and confidentiality.

  

                   Relevant skills needed in Adults Nursing 

 Before becoming an adult nurse, I must able to show some quality skills before working as an adult nursing such as:

¬ The ability to communicate with and gain the trust of people from a range of backgrounds

¬ Empathy, sensitivity and emotional resilience to be able to help people under any difficult circumstances

¬ Flexibility to deal with a variety of patients at one time

¬ Team working skills 

¬ Organisational skills  

¬ managerial and leadership skills, particularly as my career progresses 

¬ Good listening skills

¬ Must have good educational knowledge, GCSE grade A- C including English and mathematics 

¬ Must have the knowledge to enter, store, retain and retrieve essential ways of delivery good care

¬ Able to develop an understanding and demonstrate the ability to share information inter- professionally

¬ Must have a good knowledge and understanding to work with the range of people and maintaining the people's privacy and integrity

¬ Must know how to demonstrate sensitivity when interacting with simulated patients and service users

¬ Able to demonstrate an understanding of respect for patient and service user's confidentiality including the co- worker's

¬ Must able to recognise and acknowledge the limitations of my own abilities

¬ Able to acknowledge the need to adapt care according to the needs of patients and service users where lives are affected by disability, however, manifested

¬ Must be friendly and loyal with the service users and the colleagues

¬ Must able to demonstrate positive engagement to care for patients and able to respond proactively and flexibly to situations

Role: Adults Nursing 

Areas for development: writing good reports, recording personal development and overcoming barriers to a learning new skills

How could they be achieved?

1. Writing a good report: It is always good to seek permission from the consultant in charge of the patient's care before writing any report. This will also help ensure that no one else starts writing up the same case! Obtaining patient consent is also very important. This is now a prerequisite for the most report with many having their own specific patient consent form that will need to download and complete. In the rare cases where the patient has passed away, it is important to contact the next of kin for consent before writing the case report and collate the information. Once the report has been written, must check the spellings and grammar. Could give to manager to proof- read, and then make final revisions of the report

2. Recording Personal Development: it's often a good idea to keep a record of one’s personal development by writing it down. The key developments in one's learning and when they occur will able to reflect on one's successes at a later date. However, this reflection may help to motivate someone to learn more skills in the future and try to keep a learning log or journal as someone develops new skills and knowledge 

3. Overcoming Barriers To Learning New Skills: learning new skills will broaden the opportunities open to a person, at the same time as empowering the individual. There are many learning new skills, these barriers may be overcome with some thought, and this includes lack of confidence or self-esteem which is one of the greatest obstacles facing many individuals. However, once the first move is made by having a desire to learn new skills, then the greatest hurdle is overcome. More so, confidence increase as person develop new skills.

1. Performance appraisal gives an employee to sit down with a manager or supervisor at least once a year and have a performance appraisal. This is an opportunity for a worker to look together at how a staff have developed over the last year, particularly around any specific objectives that have agreed previously, whether a staff still producing the necessary level of performance relation to him or her competencies set out for the particular role.   However, knowing what education and training opportunities a worker going to need over the coming year, and producing a personal development plan for a worker and setting specific objectives to achieve over the coming year. It's really important to emphasise that the performance appraisal is not about trying to find weaknesses the worker's practise and punishing. Rather, it's about a worker and manager having an opportunity to look at worker's performance in the round, highlight where a worker clearly achieving the necessary performance and identifying what kinds of support will help to reach even high levels. It's really about supporting a worker to make the best possible contribution to team's work and develop owns knowledge and skills into the bargain.

 2. Personal development plan is what a health care worker need to be realistic about, what a person can achieve over the timescale. The vast majority of positive changes in health care services don't come from giant leaps forward, but from small steps, when taken together over time, make a really big impact and in terms of setting realistic short- and long- term goals towards an overall destination. When a healthcare worker discussing personal development plan (PDP) with the manager should able to recognise what a worker good at and which area need to learn more about in other to support the team more fully. Able to identify what kinds of activity will help a worker to gain the new skills and knowledge aiming for and set out an action plan for getting the new skills and knowledge within a defined time period. However, healthcare worker should identify what gaining the new skills and knowledge will do for the individual and the team and make sure that once achieve the new skills and knowledge, a worker will have the opportunity to put them into practice in the workplace.

 3. Learning and development opportunities;   developing own's knowledge and skil
ls need not necessarily involve taking a formal education course. Could learn from patients/service users by asking how they feel they benefit or not from the care the health workers team give them. Speaking to the manager about arranging to work closely for a while with an experienced colleague who can help develop worker's practice in a specific area. More so, reading professional journals and books will help to develop one's skills and accessing online development through, for example, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) professional Development website and be a member of RCN will give access to British journal of Healthcare Assistants and a wide range of books from the RCN libraries in all four United Kingdom countries.

2.1 Identify personal behaviours that support learning in the workplace

Learning is a necessary process for achieving great workplace objectives and essential to improving organisational performance. It bridges the gap between the healthcare organisation's current capability and that needed to deliver the good job role result. From an individual point of view, it enables people to add to their stock of personal competencies and develop their full potential. However, positive attitude and behaviour are important in the workplace, because they lead to production thinking, productive relationships and productive working. Positivity makes a person approachable, which makes it easier to build relationships and to integrate into a team. It builds morale in teams and is related to being effective at work.

2. Identify roles of people who can support your own working goals. [2.2]

There are a range of people or ways who can support own working goals within a healthcare organisation, there should be a mentor who has been there, and knows what it takes to work in particular roles. He or she is someone an employee can turn to, ask questions and get advice. If an employee wants to develop good skills, must align with someone who has succeeded with a similar skills or career. For instance, if a person wants to lose weight, could get a personal trainer or could reach out to a friend who has already succeeded in his or her weight loss journey. Mentors will help an employee or person to achieve working goals in less time than it would take to figure it all out on person's own. However, I choose my husband to be one of the roles of people who can support in my career working goals, he stands as my mark who always says "yes" for my dreams to come true as a nurse. I also choose my course tutor Jackie Whitworth as one of the roles of people who can support in my career working goals, she is very supportive and always given me guidelines to the present course am doing at the moment which is Working in the Health sector Level 2.

Reviewing or receiving feedback, satisfaction surveys or complaints from service users or colleagues can help to identify and improve own knowledge, skills and learning development needs? Healthcare organisation or staff could be proactive about this and ask for feedback or could assess information as and when it arrives. Information can also be used by employers to identify learning and development needs that require addressing at an organisational level. In some cases, service users or clients may also request specific types of training for those working on a particular case, for example, data security training. However, feedback can be formal or informal. Formal feedback comes from appraisals and performance reviews whilst informal feedback may come from a quick chat with a team leader or colleague. With the help of a supervisor or manager, an employee can decide on an area that needs improving and come up with an action plan to achieve those aim. More so, going through file and case reviews provides and improve the opportunity to identify learning and development needs. Could develop and improve own knowledge and skills by seeking feedback on practice from colleagues, manager or service users. It also helps to increase an employee capacity for problem-solving and help to understand other's people perspectives.
