Furthermore, part one of project answers the PICOT question, what is the control method used? There are measures that have been described to reduce the increased level of hypertension among the black population. As described in the text, the use of culturally competent interventions can be the best way to treat and prevent high blood pressure among the affected section of the population. In addition to this, when the black population has a good health care access in America. It will be easy for them to experience the same reduction of cardiovascular illnesses as the white population. The theory of planned behavior has also been used to control hypertension in the affected population. Elimination of attitudes and behaviors that are held by the black population has been described as a measure to reduce hypertension. The theory develops ways that can help to eliminate barriers that can impede African Americans from following healthy behaviors such as medically recommended diets and limited intake of alcohol as well as reduction of fats in their foods. It describes ways that help to control activities such as diet, smoking and physical activity especially among the non-Hispanic whites and African Americans. In order to succeed in controlling hypertension, the theory addresses normative beliefs, behavioral beliefs and control beliefs in order to prevent the spread of hypertension (Ajzen, 2002).
The PICOT question describing the outcome has been addressed in part two of the project about hypertension. Due to hypertension, there rea more than seventy million people living in America with excessive blood pressure. This has led to high levels of mortality rate among the Americans with more than four hundred thousand people losing their lives annually. In addition to this, the economy of the United States has also been affected due to heavy expenses incurred in the treatment of high blood pressure among the affected populations. An outcome has also been described in the first part of the project. In this case, the ramifications of a poor research design have been described. The systematic direction of the research will not be attained when using a wrong research design. In addition to these, the research question may not be fully addressed. There will also be an inappropriate selection of the questions that is causal, descriptive and relational in a poor research design. Testing the wrong hypothesis will as well be the result of using a wrong research design. Assessment of evidence will not be well generated in the nursing practice when putting to use a wrong research design. The outcome, therefore, will be lack of empirical data and unreliable hypothesis.
Summary of Project
The PICOT question has been described in part one and two of the project. This includes the population affected, interventions used to reduce post traumatic illness and hypertensions, type of study and outcome of the hypertension and post traumatic disorder among the affected population among others. Most of the black people have been found by the studies to have genes that conserve salt. Due to that genetic predisposition, most of the African Americans have been able to implicate hypertension when they were exposed to salt-rich surroundings. As a result of the mortality experienced during the middle passage, enslavement period was attributed to salt and water depletive illnesses. In order to succeed in controlling hypertension, the theory addresses normative beliefs, behavioral beliefs and control beliefs in order to prevent the spread of hypertension among the blacks and non-Hispanic whites as described by the theory of planned behavior. Underlying social and biological variables including family, history, diet, and environment have contributed to the high increase of hypertension among the blacks in America. A systematic direction of the research will not be attained when using a wrong research design. The research question may also not be fully addressed. There will also be an inappropriate selection of the questions that is causal, descriptive and relational in a poor research design. The research design used in part one of the project entails both experimental and descriptive strategies. Post-traumatic illness has been attributed to life-threatening activities that took place on the battlefields during the world wars I and II. Women soldiers in the combat zones have been most affected after departing from the military. Due to the side effect of the post-traumatic stress, the rate of death among those in the combat zones has been increasing.
