Essay: Should the PFFA be funded by the US government

According to Los Angeles Times (2017), there are 10 000 boarder babies and 12 000 discarded babies which had been registered to hospitals which have new born facilities across the United States (US). This indicates that baby dumping is a really big issue nationwide. This shows that, these numbers are increasing day by day hence this matter should be approached before it becomes more severe. Other than that, parents-to-be must be educated on how to take care a baby properly with the help of Planned Parenthood Funding Association (PPFA). The US government must continue funding PPFA as it brings benefits for the citizens in the terms of health; legal perspective; and human rights.
Firstly, PPFA should continue being funded by the US government as it gives out health care for the citizens especially the women on: cancer screening; sexually transmitted diseases (STIs); contraceptive services. Cancer screening for breast or cervix cancer are really important as it enables us to detect cancer cells earlier hence giving the patient a higher chance of surviving the cancer. Excluding PPFA, there is no other medical centres in the US have these kinds of services (Hasstedt, 2017). The women in US can obtain contraceptive pills and services here. The usage of long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) during 2010 and 2016 had increased dramatically until more than 59% of the clinics met the Healthy People 2020’s objective on the after regarding the usage of contraceptive methods (Zolna and Frost, 2016). This clearly shows that PPFA brings the citizens more benefits rather than harm especially for the women.
Secondly, PPFA needs to be funded by the US government continuously as it is stated in the US’ legislature that the state is obligated to provide for the medical fees. Through PPFA, it is one of the ways to fulfil that obligation. Not to forget, PPFA had also successfully help hundreds of US women that have low income obtaining the medical services according to their needs (Rosenbaum, 2015). Two cases had been refused by The Supreme Court to undergo hearing process which had emerged from action of the public in which to ban Planned Parenthood healthcare from The Medicaid program (Liptak, 2018). Through this example it is clearly seen that PPFA is important for the well-being of the citizens. Therefore, PPFA should continue be funded by the government in order to preserve the health of the citizens.
Next, PPFA should continuously being funded by the US government to protect human rights; as long as the organisation do not perform abortion on unwilling mother and/or on women who had passed their first trimester. It is known that after the first trimester, the foetus can experience pain as they had already started the process of building up their body. There are several ways for abortion during the first trimester: surgical abortion; medication abortion. Medication abortion is using the abortion pill (mifepristone) that can be taken at the clinic or at the doctor’s office (Obos Obortion Contributors, 2014). Other than abortion, PPFA do supply contraceptive services or pills for women who are not yet ready for a baby and still having sexual activities. It is believed that, for a state to have a healthy society, PPFA shall still be funded by the US government continuously.
Lastly, PPFA is actually a racist eugenics organisation
In conclusion, it is clearly stated that the reasons written above should be taken into consideration before PPFA stopped being funded by the US government. PPFA is more than just an abortion service to the public but there are other benefits on having PPFA being funded by the US government. The US must know that PPFA is more than just an abortion services; it is also stated in the legislature about providing medical fees for the citizens; and they are not able to perform abortion on women exceeds their first trimester period.
