Living
During the period of the early American literature, America was divided into a lot of colonies, the three biggest colonies were; the New England colonies, Middle colonies, and Southern colonies. There was another area called the Backcountry, it was very hard to make a living there. All of the colonies had different habits and lifestyles.
It was very difficult to establish and make a living in the American colonies. Life was very hard, and a lot of people died. There were only small settlements, not a lot of cities, after a while t+-ht started to change. The settllements developed into cities. Most of this was because of the difference in wealth. If you had a lot of money you could buy yourself a lot of farmland. If you were poor you could work on the farmland and make a living, that is how the importance of work and earning money started to rise in America. What also helped was the difference in areas. The New England colonies was a good place for ship building, the Middle colonies was good for traders and merchants, and the Southern Colonies was a good place for farmers.
Sports
In the early American time there were a lot of different sports compared to now. But Sports in genera
were not as popular as they are nowadays, people had  very little time for sports or leisure activities. Some sports were;
1. Blind Man’s Bluff (4-12 PLAYERS)
2. Hunt the Slipper (6-18 PLAYERS)
3. Blo+w-Out (2 PLAYERS)
4. Ring Taw (4-6 PLAYERS)
5. Lacrosse
Inventions and technology
The early American period was a very innovative period, there were a lot of developments in science technology. Some inventions during that time were, swim fins, the octant, mail order, lightning rod( to protect houses from lightning) . Those weren’t necessarily the biggest inventions, but it is interesting to know where they come from.
Wars battles
During the early American time, America was divided into thirteen colonies, which of coarse led  to a lot of conflicts and wars, you had for example the rangers in the north, militia, who tried to control everything. But especially there were a lot of other countries at war in America, France, England, Spain and the Dutch also. After all those wars, cam the American Revolution( a few years after the early American period). And because of that war America became independent, so the early American time was actually very important in the history of the country, because it led to it’s independence.
Hot gossip
Some unknown Portugese explorers were the first Europeans to make a map of the the Eastern part of America, from Florida to New York. this was around 1500, it was made for the Cantino planisphere( some sort of book). However the portuguese dicided to keep this as a secret, so they did not settle in the Nort of America. Because the pope Alexander VI had already given that part of the country to spain.
As you can imagine, a lot of countries were interested in such a big country which had not been claimed by anyone yet. So there were a lot of attempts to make colonies in America, this is why it will later become the United States as we know it nowadays. But a lot of those attempts didn’t succeed. The colonists faced high rates of death due to many reasons, including disease, starvation, inefficient resupply, conflict with Native Americans, and attacks by rival European powers.  The main countries that were fighting were, Spain, France and England. but they lost a lot of battles.
Spain had, San Miguel de Gualdape in Georgia (1526), Pánfilo de Narváez’s expedition to Florida’s Gulf coast (1528–36), Pensacola in West Florida (1559–61), Fort San Juan in North Carolina (1567–68), and the Ajacán Mission in Virginia (1570–71).
The French failed at Parris Island, South Carolina (1562–63), Fort Caroline on Florida’s Atlantic coast (1564–65), Saint Croix Island, Maine (1604-05), and Fort Saint Louis, Texas (1685–89).
The most notable English failures were the “Lost Colony of Roanoke” (1587–90) in North Carolina and Popham Colony in Maine (1607–08). It was at the Roanoke Colony that Virginia Dare became the first English child born in the Americas; her fate is unknown.
Literary developments
The early American period was very important for literature, a lot of literary works were made, and it was really the foundation of the literature in America. Here are five literary works that were written during that time.
1. “The Flesh and the Spirit” was published in 1650. Written by Bradstreet. In this poem you witness a conversation between Flesh and Spirit. There is some tension between those two characters, which are of coarse also two important aspects of life. In the poem, Bradstreet discovers some omnipresent questions about a certain type of faith.
2. “The Contrast”, written in 1787 by Royall Tyler, is an American play in the tradition of the English Restoration comedies of the seventeenth century; it is based on Sheridan’s The School for Scandal, which is a British comedy. Royall is very much into satirize in this play. They follow the British people in their way of fashion and do al sorts of funny things with it. that is why, the play is often linked with a comparison between the European and American culture. It was the first American Comedy to receive production from a professional acting company.
3. “the selling of Joseph”, written by Samuel Sewall, this was a very important book in the history of American literature. Because it was the first anti slavery book published in English North America. Sewall gives a lot of arguments based on legality, morality but also arguments based on biblical grounds. Against the buying or holding of slaves.
4. “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”, written by British Colonial Christian theologian Jonathan Edwards.  This is a very typical book from sermon of the Great Awakening, in which he believes that heel is a real place. Edward eanted people with his language and persuasion to think about life and go on without devotion to Christ.
5. ” poor Richards Almanac”, written by Benjamin Franklin. This isn’t just a book, it is an almanac(small book). This small book is a collection of sayings, most of which are the original thoughts of Benjamin Franklin. The sayings were originally published in a series of yearly booklets known as “Poor Richard’s Almanack” between the years of 1732-1758. Franklin’s sayings are often self-explanatory and are just as true today as they were when they were written. The difficulty in understanding Franklin’s sayings comes mainly from his use of colloquial language and spelling.
