During the time period of the 1900s many people were beginning to wonder how to fly and make something that would actually stay in the air and get something or someone place to place. Many people were beginning to do types of research on the way that this could possibly happen and to possibly make something known as a airplane. The way this was done was finding out things that could possibly be apart of an aircraft and helping it stay in the air. Finally all this hard work payed off when the Wright Brothers began to invent their aircraft in December 1930 (History.com Staff, para. 8 ). The brothers were the first ones to successfully build an aircraft that was something that actually could fly. After people were finding out about the aircraft they built it made a spark in other people to see how the brothers made their aircraft and people then made other ones based on the look of theirs (?).The Wright brothers aircraft was the beginning to many more.
To invent the aircraft Flyer 1 the brothers, Wilbur and Orville had to use both of theirs first hand knowledge from an program that gave them the knowledge about the things they needed to be able to build the aircraft (Neil Schlager and Josh Lauer, para. 3). To begin building the aircraft, the brothers started with building a wind tunnel so that they were able to have their own data of how to tell what shapes would provide a the best lift in the aircraft (Neil Schlager and Josh Lauer, para. 3). To be able to build Flyer 1 it took more than once, to have an aircraft that could actually stay in the air and then later be improved to have something like the airplanes that there are today. Knowing that they wouldn’t be able to create the aircraft in one try, Wilbur and Orville created many full-size aircrafts and would fly them as kites to see what type of aircraft they would need to build to have the end product of Flyer 1 (Neil Schlager and Josh Lauer, para. 3). These also let the brothers see what would stay in the air the best and let them know exactly what was needed to have an aircraft that actually worked.
After the brothers had the knowledge that they needed, they were finally able to begin building the aircraft which became to be known as Flyer 1. Flyer 1 began with the research they had and finding out what would be the best to have in the air. The brothers created an aircraft that could be controlled while in air due to having three controls; the roll, the pitch and the yaw (The Wright Brothers.org, para. 1). These three controls let whoever is flying the plane control certain parts at certain times so that the plane is flying smoothly and the pilot is in control. Flyer 1 was an aircraft that was one that was considered to be an controlled aircraft.
The brothers designed the aircraft the way they did with their mechanic Charlie Taylor (The Wright Brothers.org, para. 10) because of what they had learned by flying the series of aircrafts that they tested in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina ( Neil Schlager and Josh Lauer, para. 3). The brothers design for Flyer 1 was based off of things that they thought an aircraft needed which were based off of things the saw, for example the brothers would observe birds and notice that the birds would angle their wings to have balance and control, and seeing this lead to the brothers developing a concept called “wing warping” ( History.com Staff, para 7). There were many other things that the brothers noticed that has an effect on the way that the finally design of Flyer 1 was made, but overall the design of Flyer 1 was from things that the brothers noticed that could be used to make an successful aircraft.
With the brothers being the first ones to have an aircraft that could successfully fly they also had to have many things to make this happen. Overall for Flyer 1 to be the aircraft that the brothers made it, it had the wings based off of “wing warping,” being an aircraft that was considered an controlled aircraft, the 12-horsepower engine to power the two propellers, the things needed to be able to turn things, the framework of the entire aircraft. (Jeremy Hsu, para. 4,5,6,7,8 and 9). With all of these things that made an impact on the aircraft known as Flyer 1, the aircraft was first successfully flown in December of 1903 for about 12 seconds (Jeremy Hsu, para 8, 9, 10 , and 11).
Overall in the end, the Wright brothers had created the aircraft that is known as Flyer 1. This aircraft was the first one that was successfully flown in the air during this time period. After Flyer 1 was successfully flown, it was the beginning of all the other aircrafts that were invented by many other people and all of those led to what there is today, the many type of airplanes that are flown today. The Wright brothers aircraft was something that many people got inspired off from and it will always be something that will be remember due to it having each of the parts it did.
“Before the Wright Brothers, no one working in aviation did anything fundamentally correct. Since the Wright Brothers, no one has done anything fundamentally different.”
