The differences between the North and South is that the South had more slaves than the North had of slaves. According to the slave charts South Carolina had the most slaves during (1768 – 1772) they had a total of 15561 slaves compared to Massachusetts who only had 4 slaves in total. In article 4, on a cotton plantation in Mississippi, they only had slaves working in the fields while the white people were standing and watching them and telling them what to do. When the slaves got taken away the whites had to hire slaves to work for money because the white people didn’t know how to. There were a lot of differences between the North and South.
Some Economic differences are, in Virginia they consider a sheep for every person in the family as sufficient and in addition to the cotton , hemp and flax which they raise themselves. But in Massachusetts they use finer material than in Virginia. In Virginia they use their hands to make all their clothes but in Massachusetts they use sewing machines. According to the document 5, the first in town – was established March 11,1828 that same year two new manufacturing companies were started. The mills of the Boott company. The money invested in manufactories is twelve million dollars that means they made 1,459,001 yards yards of cloth a week amounting to 75,868,000 yards per year. Which is nearly enough to belt the globe two times. According to the slave chart it says that there were only four slaves in Massachusetts so for them to produce that much cotton they would have to hire people to work for them instead of having only four slaves doing that much work which they couldn’t. These events just kept leading up to the civil war because they wouldn’t stop slavery.
According to Daniel Webster’s response to Hayne, Daniel Webster said that in his career he has kept a steadily view prosperity and honor of the whole country. He said that we owe our safety at home and our dignity among other nations. He is saying that people can change the constitution but it won’t do anything. In the document 9. It says that the government has exceeded their powers unfairly under the Constitution the document allows congress no powers to give such protection congress has also violated the true meaning of the Constitution. Also the tariffs of 1828 and 1832 are unauthorized by the constitution of the United States of America and therefore are null void and are not law, nor binding upon this states or its citizens. So we don’t know why they have to follow the law anyway because it said the law is not binding upon so they should not have to follow that particular law. In document 7 it says that the constitution is not to strengthen the government but to strengthen the union, it was not to draw power from the states in order to transfer it to a national government but in the language of the constitution itself, “to form a more perfect union” but if it was to form a more perfect union they would of stop slavery a long time ago and not let it keep on going and they probably could of had a “more perfect union”.
In conclusion these events will be in history for ever. These events led up to the Civil War the Civil War was fought between the Northern states and Southern states between (1861 – 1865). The Civil War was fought because the Northern states always had to have finer clothing and machines and companies, but the Northern states didn’t have all the slaves that the southern states had. The Northern states had to have more people hired for money and the southern states had all slaves that didn’t work for money. So that’s why the civil war started the northern states wanted slaves gone some of the northern’s wanted them to stay but most of them wanted them gone, unlike the southern states the southern states wanted them to stay so that’s why the civil war started. When you see picture’s of the cotton fields on the mississippi what do you see ? I see slaves working out in the field not white people i see white people giving orders not working. If the whites didn’t have the slaves in the 1860’s they would have to either work themselves which they didn’t know how to or pay people to work for them for money or just shut down. In conclusion the differences between the North and South was that the North didn’t want slaves but the South did which led to the Civil War.
