Introduction:
Flight MH370 is a Malaysian airline flight that disappeared on March 8, 2014. It aircraft was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members. Flight MH370 was travelling from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Beijing, China, when something disastrous. Less than an hour after takeoff communication was lost between the aircraft and air traffic control. The mystery after that is the plane disappeared and nowhere to be found. During the search for the aircraft is was have found that the plane crashed in the Indian ocean. This occasion has created a variety of conspiracy theories as there is no clear evidence to what happened to the plane. The conspiracy theory I believe it that it was hijacked by someone on the plane. According to the Huffington post article states, “there had been an extra passenger on the plane. It also says that in the military report that 228 people boarded the aircraft.” (http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/mh370-missing-malaysia-airlines-flight-was-hijacked-by-secret-extra-passenger_uk_58c131b0e4b054a0ea6822e4). According to all this information I strongly believe that the extra passenger was American. As reading a lot of articles and watching news about the MH370, I have come up with my own conspiracy theory. I believe that a terrorist group was during the fight with America has gained possession of their fighter jets intel and motherboard. The terrorist group was trying to sell it to Russia but instead got a better offer from China. To make the deal less obvious they shipped the intel to Malaysia, and were told 8 Chinese army defendants will take the part from there to China. Through all this dealing the US came to know of this and sent a spy on that flight. So, the 8 Chinese defendants and 1-2 US spies boarded the MH370. The reason the choose a passenger plane was to make the dealing less obvious. An hour or so after take-off, the American spies on the plane hijacked it and diverted it to their army base Diego Garcia. During that time, the US spies dropped the cabin pressure causing everyone to lose oxygen. While going to the destination it is believed that the plane ran out of fuel and sunk in the Indian ocean. Other theory is that the MH370 reached the base and later was crashed into the ocean with its black box being taken out.
Analysis:
(a) According to Daniel Pipes’ analytic tools and assumptions the conspiracy theory I choose might be a little over the top or specious. The common-sense lacking is the terrorist group went through all that trouble to send the intel parts to China, rather than using common sense and just sending a direct flight from the middle east country to China. A knowledge of history states that the more elaborate a plot is, less likely it works. This is an important tool in analyzing my conspiracy theory because the theory is very elaborate in the way it was planned. The distinct patterns that my conspiracy theory and others have is that Putin, terrorist, China and America were all involved.
(b) Like I stated above my theory is something I came up with by reading a variety of articles and putting all the information together. The first article is the Los Angeles Times stated, “The possibility that Malaysia Air Flight 370 was hijacked has heartened the relatives of passengers who are holding out hope that the missing plane landed in some remote location, perhaps a tropical island” (Demick, 2014). This article talks about the Flight 370 being hijacked and being put on a remote location. It also says that the only reason that they do not believe that is was hijacked because it was not claimed. These 2 reasons about the are the reasons leading me to my theory of being an undercover US spy. The closest island to the path of where the plane was going when it diverted its path is Diego Garcia. Another article called “MH370: Passengers were already dead from suffocation by the time plane hit the ocean, report finds” said, “Some have sought to match the pilot-suicide theory with investigators’ suggestions that MH370 became a “ghost plane” flying for hours without human control, probably on autopilot, with crew and passengers rendered unconscious or dead by oxygen starvation” (Lusher, 2017). This is when I believe the American spy took over the plane and lowered the oxygen levels causing everyone to lose consciousness. Another article written by Daniel Greenfield says, “Terrorist groups live off publicity and donations. They need to constantly kill people and issue press releases about it to keep the Saudi, Kuwaiti and Qatari money flowing”. This is another reason I believe that it was not an act of terrorism rather by an American spy. These are just some of the articles I use to support my conspiracy theories. These are all reliable resources as most of them are from published newspapers or professional conspiracy theorist.
Consumer Applications:
MH370 is used as a brand to sell a variety of products such as t-shirts, sweaters. It is marketed as a part of history and by buying the products you will be showing your support. This is taken to such extents that they also have Halloween costumes. This has created outrage by the daughter of the pilot. It has been considered mockery of a tragedy and she even went as far as saying no one made fun of 9/11 why are they making for of this. Most of these shirts are sold by low branded companies that make custom products. You can also buy books and academic journals that give various stories and opinions of the event. There are also smaller things like magnets and mugs that are also sold.
Historical background:
The flight 370 was just an ordinary flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. It carried around 227 passengers and 12 crewmembers. There were people from 14 nations that boarded the flight. Most of the passengers were from China, but there were 2 passengers who were Austrian and Italian. The 2 men had caught as Iranian nationals who stole used stolen passports to board the flight. These men have said they are seeking asylum but were thought to be terrorist. The aircraft pilot was Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah and co-pilot was Fariq Abdul Hamid. The aircraft that was used was a Boeing 777-2H6ER
