Segregation enforced that blacks were not able to do certain things that United States citizens were entitled to. When the first Jim Crow law was passed African Americans were constantly belittled and they were tired of the treatment they received. They sought out to make a difference in their community and the world. I believe that Segregation was a good thing to the African American race because segregation taught us that we need to fight for what we believe in, and working together for a cause can make a big difference. Without Segregation we wouldn’t have the civil Rights leaders.
During 1619 a Dutch ship had brought 20 Africans to a British colony of Jamestown Virginia. European settlers during the 17th century started to rely on slaves as a cheaper route and getting things done. Most slave owners would take advantage of their female slaves and partake in sexual liberty’s, reward those who had good behavior and slaves that were rebellious were punished and brutally beaten which made slaves feel as unsafe and overworked. Americans had slaves constantly working in different weather conditions,where they had to mainly produce: tobacco, rice, and cotton. were barely fed and lived in terrible housing. When slaves were freed many Whites were furious, which led them to make segregation laws which in case was a good thing for Blacks.
After the Civil War southern legislatures, former confederates had passed a law known as the black codes which gave blacks little to no freedom. This law implied that African Americans were not allowed to be in Schools,theaters, Taverns, and other public places that were only for whites. Black people had designated areas for when they needed to eat, sit on buses, theaters , and drink from water fountains. Many wanted to change this but there was a law in place that made it so hard for African Americans to vote. Blacks were tired of being ridiculed by the color of their skin.
Huey Newton and Bobby Seale Met at Merritt College in Oakland California in 1961. Huey and Bobby are the founders of the black panther party it was founded when the assassination of a black nationalist Malcolm X and a San Francisco police shot and killed an unarmed black teenager Matthew Johnson. Black panthers would monitor police activities in the black community because they believed that we needed to start defending ourselves against the bigotry. Black Panthers were often characterized as a gang, when really their leadership saw the organization as a political party whose goal was getting more African Americans elected into the political offices. They also came up with multiple community outreach by giving free breakfast programs to students in school, and also did free clinics and 13 black communities across the United States.
Dr. King believed in using the power of words and acts of nonviolent resistance, how he went by these was by holding protest and knowingly you can achieve the impossible.Nelson strongly led the people of South Africa into a victory they thought they would never win. Nelson had bigger dreams for South Africa which led him to become a leader; an apartheid revolutionary, and philanthropist, and the president of South Africa. When believing in yourself you can accomplish so many things. When Nelson Mandela's life got tough he pushed through it all and persevere.When rising up you will soon fall and what we do with our fall shows who we truly are. Daisy Bates gathered many African-American students to enroll in all white schools. Many schools refused to let black student attend, so daisy would then use her newspaper business to publicize schools that did not follow the federal mandate. With many of Arkansas public school refusal she kept moving forward. When the NAACP was paying attention to Arkansas school she then developed the little rock nine.
I believe that segregation taught us how to be stronger within society. Segregation also taught us that if we want something we have to try and achieve the impossible, and you never give up on our wildest dreams. During the civil rights movement us blacks became a closer community to stop a similar problem. When reading about Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Rosa parks, and many more they all share a similar problems. If segregation did not happen we wouldn’t have the strong leaders that have left a mark upon many lives. In which Case I strongly believe that segregation was a good thing.
