A: Summary

The RT news report introduces a technology that can make organs and other body tissues. The researchers from the University of Edinburgh, have created a 3D printing machine, that can print embryonic stem cells, this can maybe bring back memories of a sheep, named Dolly. Back in the late 90s, Dolly was the first mammal to be cloned and was a proof that a clone can be produced from a cell. Engineers are hoping to print out tailored tissues suitable for surgery and entire organs that can be used in transplantations. The experts ideally want to create organs for those in need or lists waiting. The project that is called Stranger Visions can create 3D portraits based on a person   s DNA from hair follicles to skin particles, from that there is a code and they can create a face based on what the person would look like from the code. It was by a Brooklyn artist that aimed to try to create faces of hair she found on the streets throughout New York City.

B: Discussion

Is this a kind of a pathway to cloning a human being? (2:40  2:44)

Knowing that a 3D printer can reconstruct a figure of a person is crazy because not every person has a positive thought about clones because of movies and series. However, I do believe that a 3D printer can make a clone but it can’t create life. Organs such as livers and stem cells can be printed. That is possible as they said it in the RT news report that researchers have created a 3D printer that can print embryonic stem cells.  And they maybe could bring Dolly the sheep’s memories back. I think that in few years there will be 3D printer everywhere and it will be a big part of the new generation.

Mr. Grover experienced that he was sitting with his friends, explaining 3D printing to them, and instead of believing in him they laughed at him. That has happened many times in the history of the technology, like when a boy said to his parents that maybe in the future every person could talk on the phone where they could see the one they are talking to, and what the parents did, was laughing at their son, and said that is not going to happen, but it did happen. So, there is nothing a person can’t do, only if they don’t have the knowledge or the things to do it.

In China and Africa, concrete houses and mud huts are being printed. That is good for the poor people, they get to have a home and not live and sleep out on the streets.

Architectural model was handmade in Australia, where it went offshore to China and now it is done with 3D printing. It is a lot easier to make architectural models with 3D printing than with whatever it could be done with, because 3D saves time and money, for example, if you want to create multiple copies it will cost too much if using handmade models however it is easier to do with 3D printing. It is also better at testing and assessment because of the edits don’t take much time as the handmade because you don’t need to start the task from scratch. A 3D printed model allows a visual viewpoint you can’t attain with digital 3D, blueprints or drawings.

Printing technology is a good thing to storage space. Because instead of having every part for a car in the garage they could just print the part they need, but like Mr. Grover said: the potential biomedical applications of 3D printing are still to be discovered   . It can’t be done right now, but maybe in the future, it will be possible.

Mr. Grover said I was blown away in India he was shocked of a man that was picking plastic bottles up, and he had a mini melter, to melt the bottles, to make material used for printing. That is a very good thing that the man had done because instead of letting the plastic bottles be on the streets then he is recycling the plastic so he can get the material to the 3D printer and on the same time he is helping with removing the trash on the streets.

Printing technology could be a problem if criminals use it to make printed guns or something else. Because now you can make electrical items because of the new material graphene it is much stronger than steel, and 3D printing technology comes down to the materials that can be used and is strong. A gun that is made by a 3D printer can’t be detected by metal detectors or x-ray scanners and that gives the criminals an opening to make more terror.
