The film takes place in 1964 in Mississippi, and it is a true story of three civil right workers, one black and two white, who disappeared one night on a lonely road. This was the kick-off for one of the most remarkable attempted murder in the history of the United States. When the three workers disappears, the FBI takes over the case, and when they come to town, they are filled with anger and denial. As soon as they come into town, the two FBI agents, Anderson and Ward, the feeling that something is not right. The sheriff seems odd, and he really did not want any outside help, and he denies that there has been a murder, and claims that the boys are out of state by the time the FBI arrives. But the two FBI agents do not give up easily.
Through investigation, the two FBI agents learn that the city has a big secret. Ku Klux Klan (KKK) has a great impact on their lives, and even the sheriff and the mayor playing together in ” game ”, by pretending that he did not know anything about what is happening in his city, and who is responsible. But the sheriff is in it, and one night when FBI agents have him under surveillance, they see that the sheriff goes into a black men’s house and chase a boy out of the house in exchange for money, but what boy does not know is, KKK waiting for him. The KKK kidnap the boy and run into the woods, where FBI agents follow. The black people who live in Mississippi do not want to talk to FBI agents because the other black people who have talked to them have been kidnapped and murdered. A boy wants to help the FBI and the result of it is that the KKK is trying to hang his father and burn down their farm. The film ends with the FBI gets a tip about where the bodies are buried, and the arrest of the group of KKK. The only thing that is free of the jail is the sheriff.
The black people were not allowed to vote at the time, so they did not get any sense of the city and many of the whites meant that that was how it should be, while others believed that blacks were treated unfairly. The role of the authorities has been described in the summary; Sheriff covers for KKK and has a finger in the play. The black people are afraid for their lives, and many of them do not want to help the FBI investigation because that other blacks who have spoken with the FBI has disappeared or were murdered. Rolle FBI is great, they will not let the sheriff get away with the things happening in the city.
When presenting the film based on historical facts, the writers, directors and program directors that includes Hollywood should be held responsible for its audits of the story in historical films. Presenting film based on historical facts, should Hollywood step up to the plate, examine the truths and summarize these truths in the form of maintaining historical accuracy.
In the film Mississippi Burning, we get a sense of what it was for struggling blacks in the Deep South, but the question is about the accuracy and the occurrence of the facts portrayed. In films like Mississippi Burning, JFK and Amistad, we are presented with situations that are based on historical events. The historical events alluded to in the film, but the truth behind the film is rarely studied in a sociological aspect. We see half-truths and misrepresentations, misinterpretations and obvious works of fiction and are lead accepting these tall tales as fact.
As Hollywood, more and more, depicts historical facts mixed with the idealistic visions writers and directors, viewers need to become more and more aware of the discrepancies between fact and fiction. The audience must arm themselves with the right tools to decipher the story of the things to be better educated and more discerning viewer. With better access to information and a greater desire to know the truth, Hollywood is finding it harder and harder to fleece the American public.
While the great Westerns in the early days of Hollywood taught Americans how to think about the taming of a country and gangster movies taught us about the assimilation of immigrants into American society and World War II epics taught us about the superiority of American individualism and democracy in relation to the ideologies Europe, the mythical films of the last twenty years in Hollywood was of a different kind.
The main theme of this text is family relationship, although I do not think the family in this text is a common family. Brian, of course, a chauvinistic in some manner. He has probably been brought up with women being suppressed, or at least women who are content to take care of everything at home. He believes that it is every woman’s duty to take care of the family, and he is definitely not think he should make an effort. As an example of this is in the text that at the time of depression Linda, Brian bound to get a woman to clean.
Firstly, it is not a human being to clean and, secondly, it never happens to Brian that he could do some tasks itself. It is also the problem with his mother. In the end it drives Linda mad that she is the one responsible for everything, and unconsciously, that she has married into a strange family. In an ordinary family, she first would be the only one taking care of Betty, and second, she would get more recognition from other family members for the work she does.
This may sound cynical, but Betty is actually, though she is the one died in the end, the lucky. She must be great full that Brian found a girl he could suppress being the considerate one, if it is possible. Perhaps it is her nature to be that way. If he had not done it probably will not be anyone to babysit her.
First about Agent Anderson. Im not sure about he´s part of the problem or not, in the film he starts singing a KKK (Ku Klux Klan). But later in the film you can find some sarcastic, and some of jolly sort. After the considering of severity he is comming to Mississippito investigate.
He has a parter, a FBI man, a real “Hoover man”. Agent Anderson into the community will try.
He will also try to being a southern man. He will dresses like the people in the town.
I learnt despite his casual, smiley apperance, that he was a tough guy, he´s knowshow to speak the local language. Agent Ward like a sore thumb. But Agent Anderson goes all in.
Anderson goes more all in, in proportion to Ward. Ward will waiting and Anderson will start. Anderson is more strongly its happening in his home state. Anderson feels that neither side is right or wrong. Anderson appears, to Ward, to be part of the problem.
Audience and Ward learn that Anderson does not understand the big picture “. He did not know that being poor was what was killing him” This anecdote helps flesh out both character and situation in the south.
