The terminal is a movie released on 2004, starring about a man named Viktor Navorski who is from Central Europe, Krakozhia (which later on descends into civil war after he left) and travels to New York City to fulfill he’s father promises. A terminal is defined as a point of where the traffic is transferred from one mode of transport to another (Crainic, Bektas, & Crainic, 2007). The story started when he wanted to go back to his countries and it was denied because his country has suspended all travelling privileges on passports issued by the government of Krakozhia. Besides that, there is a new government in Krakozhia and the new ruler has closed all borders and terminated all visa. He is now a citizen of nowhere. The Terminal movie was telling about how he stayed nine months in the terminal until the war is end (Spielberg, S., 2004).
The terminal movie shows that the airport security plays an important role in terms of the safety of aircraft, passengers and country. That is why the U.S. Customs and Border Protection seizes the airlines ticket and the passport. Security is the precautions to fight the danger that might happen anytime (Aviation Fact United States., n.d.) and the governments around the world really need make the safety and security as the major concern. (Enoma, A. & Allen, S, 2007). Moreover, another security measure which is screening the passenger boarding the aircraft and the screening baggage (Aviation Fact United States., n.d.) Officers around the exit gate is also monitored at all times to avoid the slightest mistake of allowing people to pass through without a passport or visa (Foucher, Lalonde, & Gagnon, 2011). In addition, all the airports also need a strong security system that can help to protect the airport from terrorism or threat of others (Brown, A. W. & Pitt, M. R., 2001). Furthermore, system by using CCTV and x-ray system to make it easy to see all area in the airport (Lippert, R. & O’Connor, D., 2003). Others than that, we can see that the officer in this terminal are well trained they know what to do when there is the situation like this.
An example of another issue in that movie is the facilities of the terminal itself. As we can see when the flight was delayed, the passengers do not have places to take a rest. Most of the passenger are sleeping in the bench of the airport. Airport facilities and the accessibility of the facilities at the airport also important to get the good perception from passenger (George, I., 2013). Last but not least, the facilities need to be measure on the demand and passenger forecast, especially during busy hour so that there were no issues about the facilities anymore (Passenger Terminal Facilities, 2014). By considering the large influx of foreigners or people using the airports, lines and the crowd control for the check-in line can be controlled better if they were more counters available so that they will have a larger line up area and not be in a crowded situation (Chun, Wai, & Mak, 1999). The movie shows the list of activities and process that is undergone in an airport.
