‘If you are afraid of struggle, then you are afraid of growth. You have to go through it.’ I never knew where this quote came from but it has been an inspirational line for me till the date. Simply describing the line it motivates us to do something to get something. Doing nothing takes you nowhere but onto the darkness. ”Talking about goods and bad, today on this essay I am going to talk about myself, my goals and my planning.
We have a group of five people as a team for group woks. We have been doing a lots of group works also the presentations about the Belbin’s Team Role. SCAMPER and Six thinking Hats. Among these Belin’s role was a first presentation work for us. Doing the study about the topic, I found Belbin’s Team Role a really fruitful for organizing the team and portioning the works among each team members. While doing the Belbin’s Team Role presentation we have to choose a role for each member so I preferred to be a shaper and a specialist because observing myself and as recommended by my team, I am a single-minded, self-starting and dedicated. I can bring in-depth knowledge of a key area to the team. As I have a drive and courage to overcome obstacle and also I am challenging for the team to improve, dynamic and usually extraverted enjoying stimulating others, questioning norms, and finding the best approaches for solving problems and thrives in pressure, I was chosen to be a shaper. Also having the ability of providing specialist knowledge and skills, I was chosen to perform as specialist and so I did. Also as demerits I tend to contribute on a narrow front and can reside on the small point and can be prone to provocation, and may sometimes offend people’s feelings and could risk becoming aggressive and bad humored in attempts to get things done. But I can overload anyone on a specific topic with information. I couldn’t play the roles of resource investigator for the team since I hate to research and collect data. And so I did the role I was chosen for team after then.
When our lecturer talked about Honey and Mumford test, I was very curious about it since it was about knowing a learning style of myself. According to P. Honey “Become smarter at getting a better fit between learning opportunities and the way you learn best. This makes your learning easier, more effective and more enjoyable. It saves you tackling your learning on a hit-and-miss basis. Equipped with information about your learning preferences, you’ll have many more hits and fewer misses.” His main object lesson was that to be an effective learner we should also develop the ability to learn in other styles too. Then I took the test and my result was like 12 in Activists, 16 in Theorist, 12 in Pragmatist and 12 as Reflector. As I took the test I, however found myself a theorist as I have strong beliefs about what is right and wrong, good and bad, I tend to solve problems using a step-by-step approach. I like meetings to be run on methodical lines, sticking to laid down agenda, etc. and believe that rational, logical thinking should win the day. I am keen to reach answers via a logical approach since I get on best with logical, analytical people and less well with spontaneous, irrational people. I like to be able to relate current actions to a longer-term bigger picture and relate my actions to a general principle. I am keen on exploring the basic assumptions, principles and theories underpinning things and events and can often see inconsistencies and weaknesses in other people’s arguments. I don’t like disorganised things and prefer to fit things into a coherent pattern and flippant people who don’t take things seriously enough usually irritate me. I steer clear of subjective or ambiguous topics. I pay meticulous attention to detail before coming” to a conclusion. Simply I am the type of those learners who like to understand the theory behind the actions. I, as a theorist need models, concepts and facts in order to engage in the learning process and also prefer to analyze and synthesize, drawing new information into a systematic and logical theory.
Testing myself according to ELLI, I have Strategic Awareness learning power i.e. I scored more in strategic awareness though my thought was I would get more in critical curiosity. According to Elli, I tend to think about my learning, and plan how I am going to go about it. Also I usually have a fair idea of how long something is going to take me, what resources I will need and my chances of being successful. I am able to talk about the process of learning how I go about things and about myself as a learner, what my habits, preferences, aspirations, strengths and weaknesses are. To expand this strength Elli also suggests to assess and plot our progress against tools like ELLI, make plans and to-do lists, allocate our time in advance to all subjects, ensures a fair share of time, use time out in the middle of a piece of work to check whether we are still on track, identify things that help us learn and things that hinder us, record our difficulties, frustrations, worries, boredom, eureka moments etc. in a personal blog and when starting a new assignment, create a mind map to help us to see the whole picture.
Moving towards to the MAP (Motivation, Ability and Personality), as I have talked before about the motivation quote that has been motivating me. As I took the MBIT test it showed me as the ENTJ and ENTP but since I found ENTP more familiar to me. As an ENTP, I firstly am focused externally, where I take things in primarily via my intuition. And my secondary mode is internal, where I deal with things rationally and logically. I constantly absorb ideas and images about the situations they are presented in their lives. I am quite flexible and adapt well to a wide range of tasks. I am claimed to be enthusiastic, upbeat, and popular. I can be very charming and have an excellent communication skills. I am extremely interested in self-improvement and growth in relationships with the people I am nearby. I usually am flexible, usually easy to get along with. I am usually good at making money, although not so good at managing it and take my commitments and relationships very seriously. I am genuinely interested in people’s ideas and thoughts and take their commitments very seriously. I am fair-minded and interested in doing the right thing. I am a bit direct and straightforward. I can enhance and encourage knowledge and self-growth in all aspects of life. I am able to turn conflict situations into positive lesson and take constructive criticism well.
But I have some demerits that I always want to improve. I am always excited by anything new, they may change partners frequently and have tendency to not follow through on own plans and ideas. My feeling of love of debate causes me to provoke arguments. Since I am a big risk-takers and big spenders, not usually good at managing money. Although I take my commitments seriously, I tend to abandon relationships which no longer offer opportunity for growth. My enthusiasm for verbal debates makes me appear argumentative and tendency to be challenging and confrontational. I tend to get involved in “win-lose” conversations and have difficulty listening to others. I am extremely high standards and expectations but not naturally in tune with people’s feelings and reactions. I have difficulty expressing love and affection, sometimes seeming awkward or inappropriate. It makes me explode with terrible tempers when under extreme stress.
