The nurses as the caregivers are required to have critical core competencies to help them deliver their service adequately. Firstly, providing the patient-centered care is a key core capability to the nurses. A good nurse should be patient, listening, as well as communicate and educate the patients on various perspectives such sharing decision making  and continuous management of the patient needs to promote a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, working in interdisciplinary teams promotes cooperation, collaboration, communication, as well as care integration through teamwork hence ensuring reliability of the provision of the nursing services to the patients (Marquis & Huston, 2009, 421-423).

Another core competence of the nurses’ profession is the application of the evidence-based practice. Here, integration of the best research through relevant clinical expertise as well as patients’ values for optimal care is necessary. Besides, involvement in un unceasing learning, development, as well as wide-ranging research work is integral to the nursing occupation. The nurses need to employ quality improvement techniques. Along these lines, identification of errors and risks in health care, as well as understanding and implementing the basic safety measures is of paramount necessity.  Such aspects of standardization as well as simplification facilitate in understanding and evaluation of the quality care r4egarding the structure together with the process in relation to the needs of stakeholders such as patients among others. Leadership qualities are integral components to any professionals. There are many of leadership styles employed by the management and other professionals in various fields namely democratic, autocratic, authoritative, and bureaucratic styles among others (Marquis & Huston, 2009, 421-423). All these leadership styles have their advantages as well as shortcomings. Apparently, this means that no leadership style is ideal in all circumstances. According to the contingency theory, a good leader applies different leadership strategies in various occasions. Such strategy encourages sharing of ideas amongst the colleagues and exploiting e for the benefit of the organization in provision of quality care services. In the nursing profession, this model is very crucial because it improves the communication process within the health facility such as rapid spread of patient data from one department to another. Such approach improves care services. Nevertheless, the specialists depending on the situation also use other approaches. A good leader should use good problem-solving skills at every situation (Marquis & Huston, 2009, 66-69).

Excellent communication skills are required in the nursing profession. The ability by nurses as caregivers to communicate as well as connect with patients together with other health professionals facilitating in building important relationships, prevention of mistakes, as well as provision of better health care. However, this area is a major area of concern since it seems that many nurses lack this important quality. I fact, over a third of the total deaths often occur because of unnecessary errors by the nursing professions (Marquis & Huston, 2009, 70-74). Apparently, such errors often result from miscommunications. Improvement in the nursing communication may help in lessening such medical errors as well as making a positive client outcome. Improvement in communication can help improve level of client satisfaction as well as greater adherence to treatment options. Management of conflicts is another area of concern. At times, nurses find themselves in an ethical dilemma regarding on the manner to handle the conflicts that arises within their profession. Nurses as leaders need to implement various actions of handling battles and still promote offering of outstanding care services to the patients. For example, some of the conflicts arises out of self-interest amongst health professionals, hostile patients, as well as mishandling of patients. Studies suggest that effective handling of conflicts enhances patient safety, improves quality of care services, as well as better staff more. Moreover, it facilitates in reduction of the work stress for the nurses. Nurses are required to manage conflicts and counter this challenge through application of the ethical tools. Moreover, collaboration and good communication skills are required for handling such events. A nursing profession should have these skills to support better handling and solving conflicts. The quality improvement is another area of concern that the health care facilities have considering overlooking. Over the recent past, commitment in improvement the quality of care services has been experienced in the nursing profession. Leadership learning by the nurses has improved the services of healthcare offered by them. Application of the ethical principles is an integral aspect that enhances better care services. Improvement of the quality services in the healthcare department can be enhanced through adhering to various aspects namely timely, effectiveness, efficiency, equitability, safety, as well as personal-centralism (Marquis & Huston, 2009, 74- 100).

1. Ethics are integral in all aspects of life. According to the context in the book, nurses are required to apply high degree of ethic guidance as they give their care services. Ethics are applied at all levels such as decision-making, problem solving, and safety services to the patients. For example, patience, integrity, and respect for patients is of paramount important as it facilitates to the greatest satisfaction to the patients. Moreover, giving hope and showing care to the patients is necessary by nurses as caregivers. Likewise, maintaining general privacy and privacy of data is necessary. For example, nurses should not discloses sensitive information about a patient without one’s knowledge (Marquis & Huston, 2009, 92- 100).

2. Knowledge development by nurses is significant. As caregiver, nurse should advance their profession meaning that they need to learn more as they progresses in their career because of the changing dynamics, trends, and increased demand. Along these lines, the technological advancement, emerging diseases and complications, and changing societal norms requires the nurses to seek knowledge continuously for them to be better nurses. Thus, this leads to quality improvement concerning the care services (Marquis & Huston, 2009, 32- 40). A nurse to be relevant in the profession is required to frequently improve himself/herself as well as one’s knowledge. New knowledge helps in changing the manner of the nursing job performance.

3. Moreover, nurses need to integrate the leadership skills in their career. Mastery of the excellent leadership skills is significant. Although, there various alternatives of the leadership strategies, nurses among other professionals should apply the best leadership strategy based on their situation. For example, participative or democratic strategy is best employed during teamwork and improvement of communication among various department within health centers hence facilitating efficient flow of patient data as well as reduction of errors. Additionally, a nurse as a leader should also coach the less experienced and new nurses (Marquis & Huston, 2009, 72- 80). Knowledge and experience sharing is integral to enhance improvement of healthcare services. Moreover, passing of excellent moral values such as honesty, integrity, professionalism, trustworthy, and good grooming among others is also necessary.

4. Lastly, a nurse is required to have good motives or intents at all times. For instance, a nurse should put the interest of the patients as his/her own.  Having a positive attitude towards life and work is important. Therefore, a positive attitude by a nurse towards the patients is likely to improve both the level on job satisfaction as well as satisfying the patient. Communication, collaboration and integration skills are requirements in fostering quality care services in the nursing profession. A nurse is required to understand nature of the patient; his/her needs and take the necessary strategies to resolve the issue (Marquis & Huston, 2009, 61- 78).
